  • Well we watched enough "training videos" about Cavapoos and "separation anxiety" so felt we were as ready as we could be. It all seems so sad when a puppy has to leave its mother at 8 weeks but thats the norm and we are determined to give Little Dot or "Dotty" the loving but structured and rule based live that will allow her to enjoy life to the full in our house.
First off she has to have a crate and pen - and she will learn to love the crate - she will eat in there, we will play some games in there and it will be her quiet place. Cavapoos can't hold their bladder until they are about 20 weeks so we are using puppy mats at night which she used, immediately from Day 1 - what a great Breeder? But during the day we are watching her carefully and in 2 weeks have only had one little accident - the remainder of the number 1s and 2s are outside on the grass but the poor little bugger hates the rain - don't we all!!
Food - we have slightly adjusted what the breeder recommended and she is wolfing it back. We are determined not to share our own food with her - a mistake we made with our old dog, Gladys. You make a rod for your own back and can't take them anywhere without begging.
Play she is already going nuts, charging around the house sp we have now put her on a trailing lead so we can catch up with her - she loves her squeaky squirrel the most!
The biggest problem we had was her reaction to the vaccination - she was very VERY lethargic to the point that even the vet was worried about her when we took her back - but not so worried that they didn't slam in another £41 charge for the extra consultation!! We have not yet made our mind up on which vets to use.

Dried kibbles, are absent of good nutrition . They are processed at high temps, kills the benefits for good health. I would suggest fresh natural food, while she’s growing so fast . She’s so very lucky to have you both.

Hello from the small town of Whaleyville in southeastern Virginia USA. Congratulations on finding your beautiful little Dot. My husband and I are 70 and 71 and just got a sweet crazy 11 week old Morkie. Family and friends think we’re nuts to start over with a new puppy now. We also have 12 and 13 year Shih tzus. We named our little guy Finley because we picked him up on Saint Patrick’s day. Just subscribed 😄

Hello Rob and Beverly, thank you so much for setting up your videos to follow the progress of your precious Dotty, we too are the very proud parents to be of a Cavapoo puppy, he is two weeks old today so we have to be patient for another 6 weeks before we can begin sharing our life with him. We too lost our devoted little dog last July and find it quite unbearable not sharing our lives with the unconditional love a dog brings. We look forward to more instalments! Dotty is absolutely adorable and it is so heart warming to see you both looking so besotted and very happy. Averil

Averil thanks so much for your comment and, like us before Christmas, we knew Little Dot was on the way and we were very excited. Soon you should be able to see him!! We are having fun with her - as I write this she is 11 weeks old, has her second jab next monday and the following week we can take her out. She is ready to go out and discover the world. She is also a little monkey - very bright but the signs are good with no trouble leaving her overnight and two consecutive "dry and clean" nights - not bad for 11 weeks. She does her business outside in the garden. Keep in touch - I will try to publish something every 2 weeks or so!

Congrats on little Dottie, she's beautiful. I would like to recommend a wonderful book that could give you some suggestions regarding food and vaccination for puppies. The book is called From Needles to Natural, by Dr Judy Morgan, DVM. She explains the hazards of vaccines, especially for little dogs. I have no connection with her, but I have watched her on RUclips and I am reading the book in preparation for getting our little puppy, a Shih Tzu/Poodle mix. She will be tiny like Dottie. Dr Morgan explains the issues with vets giving more vaccines than are really necessary. Just food for thought. The book also will tell you a lot about the problems with feeding dry kibble. Best wishes for you and Dottie. She is making amazing progress on training already.

A responsible pet parent will crate train their puppy. Little Dot is fine and happy in her crate. What would happen if there was a fire while they were out? Firemen would be able to locate her and get her out. They can get into so much mischief while they are alone! Being in a crate sure does keep them safe.

  • @micheleeve6054

Good luck with your new little dog. An eight week ol puppy is a little early , although legal, to leave its Mother. Some breeders wait wait until the puppy is 12 weeks old. During this developmental stage, the brain is rabidly developing, and the dog is impressionable and ideal for training.. Waiting until a puppy is at least 12 weeks old enables puppies to learn from their litter mates and socialize. Much happiness with Dottie.
Would you consider resear thing for a new Vet?

I never after having 2 sick dogs for a week after their rabies vaccination I NEVER ever got them
vaccinated again. They are rarely ever around other dogs anyway. Little Dot is so adorable.
I saw a stuffed dog that was a perfect companion for a puppy as it breathed and it's stomach
moved up and down as it breathed, imitating how comforting it was for the puppy to curl
up with as it would sleep. I would myself rub the stuffed dog all over the puppy's mother and get
as much of the smell of mama all over the stuffy dog. Making the transition less painful for
the puppy. I've also heard that the longer a puppy is with it's mother the better since they are
learning so much from mama. I think around 12 weeks is a good time to get a puppy.

Tried everything , was very traumatic ,my son [13 at the time ] never forgave me for giving him up .
