Common mistake people make with Hun-Grrr is that he's a retool of Silverbolt. Well, he's not. He happens to share the same transformation as him. The same can be said about the G2 Smokescreen figure and Energon Starscream or DOTM Roadbuster and AOE Lockdown. They both share the same design and transformation scheme, but they aren't retools of them. Just to clear that up.

Abominus might actually be my favorite CW styled combiner. It’s either him or Bruticus for me, though Bruticus is only a contender when he’s got the Prime Wars Blast-Off instead of the Combiner Wars one.
Cutthroat and Sinnertwin are easily the weak links for me here. I’m lucky that my Cutthroat doesn’t have the QC issues with the bird head that plague a lot of copies of the figure, but even still, it’s just not a great mold. Suits him better than Swoop, but something just feels wrong about it. As for Sinnertwin, he just looks off. The mold doesn’t work for him OR Snarl in bot mode, though I think both beast modes are totally fine. The transformation of the legs is also really scary, but at least the Sinnertwin version of the mold doesn’t force me to pull on clear plastic to get it to work.
Hun-Gurrr is fine. Shares a lot of engineering with Silverbolt, but I don’t care since that mold makes the best combiner torso out of any CW-style figure and it never feels like it gets in the way at all. Most of my issues with it are just the fact that it’s Hun-Gurrr. The color scheme doesn’t have as much magenta as I’d like and his overall design is a little basic but it’s completely accurate to how Hun-Gurr is supposed to look, it’s not really the fault of this particular figure, that’s just how the character looks in general.
Blot and Rippersnapper absolutely slay. This is a fantastic mold and both of them wear it really well, with each of them highlighting the differences in their versions of the sculpt nicely. Transformations are fun, both modes look great, generally good quality all around.
Where this set really works for me though is Abominus himself. It just looks so perfect, I couldn’t ask for a better generations update for him. All the limb bots work well as both arms and legs, which is nice, since some CW limb bots really only work well as one or the other (Heli mold is only good as an arm, Truck mold is only good as a leg, etc). Hun-Gurrr works incredibly well in torso mode, as the proportions are pleasing and the new stickers and chestplate really add a nice pop of colour. The head sculpt is perfect too. Pretty much my only complaint is that the hands aren’t pink, and that’s really minor. I love the way this set looks combined.

I've never heard any talk about mainline stuff cracking in so many places. Where are you getting your figures? It is so rare for me to see a crack in a mainline figure. They are meant to be handled by children, so they are usually pretty durable. I felt Abominus was at least as good as Defensor from CW, which was my favorite from that line. It had all the same good and bad points as most of the combiners from those lines.

For the stunticons hasbro would have to use motormaster's trailer as the combiner component for the menousar.

We haven’t seen how legacy Dragstrip is engineered. It looks like getting him into arm mode will be genuinely well engineered.

I've actually been pretty happy with my Terrorcons/Abominus. I'll thoroughly agree that Blot is my favorite, and likewise agree Sinnertwin is rather weak. My opinion on Rippersnapper and Cutthroat, however, is entirely the opposite. Not that there's anything wrong with Rippersnapper, I just find him kinda boring. Cutthroat is just great though, I've had no QA issues with him and I quite like the mold (his counterpart Swoop happening to also be my favorite of the PoP Dinobots).
I'll admit the Combiner Wars style figures all have some similar issues, especially in merged form. Feet that are too small, arms that are too long, but there is also something I find kind of appealing about these gorilla-like prepositions, a sort of animalistic furiousity that can make the combiners feal all the more dangerous, and especially on Abominus that seems all the more fitting.

If you need to buy additional parts to make a toy work, doesn't that mean that the toy was bad to begin with?

I love the bio for Sinnertwin. The fact that the two heads he has in his alt mode will argue with the other, I just love the concept of those two minds being one in robot mode. A concept of the left brain and the right brain not agreeing too much. Also, I got both the PotP versions and the Selects version. I haven't run into any QC issues so far, other then the looseness of Cutthroats alt mode heads little head piece. One thing I liked about the PotP version was how of all of the PotP Combiners, PotP Abominus was the only one that could conceal the Enigma of Combination.
I am most likely going to skip the Legacy Stunticons, assuming they are not compatible with the Combiner Wars/Power of the Primes/Unite Warriors/Selects combiners, thus not a proper Scramble City type Combiner. Really hoping I'm wrong, and the Deluxes simply remain in Vehicle mode with the combiner peg sticking out and attached to Motormaster and his trailer.

They just showed off Dragstrip for the new combiners. He looks a lot better than the CW one but he's only Deluxe scale. He should have been Voyager scale. The problem with the CW Combiners is that they are too small. They don't really seem that imposing when they are comprised of 4 Deluxe figures and one Voyager leader.

    • @rileymartin8284
      @rileymartin8284 2 года назад +1

    • @sidearmsalpha
      @sidearmsalpha 2 года назад

@@rileymartin8284 Ok. That's how they cheated the scale with Menasor with the Masterpiece versions. Even with other Combiners like the Zeta Superion and Bruticus, they have a faux torso to increase the height of the combined mode. I'm not a huge fan of resorting to that but considering that the figures can't alter their size like their animated counterparts, I can deal with it. I hope Hasbro makes all the team leaders leader or commander class. Otherwise, there's no point in releasing these again if they are just going to improve the sculpts.

For all the articulation the CW combiners have, none of it is very useful because of balance and weight. You're best off leaving it in a stand at attention or a standing A pose and leave it alone. Anything else is frustration and a ticking time bomb. The seacon combined mode is probably the worst CW combiner in terms of stability, but it also looks fantastic just standing there. That's the curse and blessing of the CW design. Can't wait for a new scramble city standard.
That said you can improve the arm aesthetics of these combiners. Tick the arm one notch back, then bend the elbow(limb bot legs) so the arm is then in a 90 degree pose. With the upper arm already notched back this has the effect of shortening the arm and hiding the elbow legs. Really helps Abominus.

Cutthroat is somehow even worse, with fewer colors and the bird head and crest clearly suffer badly from mold wear and don't even fit together or attach to the rest of the toy properly. I sortof fixed it by boring out the attachment holes with a tiny drill bit (I forget the size) and reshaping the head slightly by dropping it into a glass of very hot water, so now it holds together at least but it's still prone to falling off.

These combiners showcase one of the big issues with making a combiner set. The size discrepancy between the torso and limb bots in their individual robot modes, vs their proportions when combined. Visually, as a team of individual bots; a voyager class torso and deluxe class limbs looks best in a group shot. However, when combined, it makes for some wonky proportions. The arms look too long, and the lower legs look too bulky compared to the thighs. For combined mode, a leader class torso works better with deluxe class limbs. I think that is why the third party companies have moved towards the combined mode using a separate main body that the other bots attach to; with the torso bot mostly hiding out in the hollowed out chest cavity. One of the hallmarks of this design is a lack of combiner ports on the limb bots. Since I don't see one on the promotional images for the upcoming Dragstrip toy; I have to assume that Hasbro is following the lead of the third party companies. I would be surprised if the Motormaster toy does not consist of a voyager scale robot that turns into the semi; with the box trailer transforming into the combined mode. The limb bots will then just clip onto the limbs of the combined mode, with the Motormaster toy slotting into the combined mode's back. Possibly it might form part of the actual combined mode. Maybe the upper chest and head; with the trailer making the arms, lower torso, and legs.

9:05 funnily enough the only two combiners I own are Superion and computron. Both with minor shows of wear. My silverbolt has seen better days. But yeh if you want my computron with hands and feet and the main gun (not the limb guns) Let me know. I'm down for a sale

Of course the only ones from this team I managed to get were Sinnertwin, and Cutthroat. My Cutthroat constantly breaks in two places on the monster thing head whenever I mess with him and all of his joints are stupidly loose and I dread doing anything with him ever, my Sinnertwin however, has no problems and for what he should be, he's not bad. I really don't like the Terrorcons that much anyway, so I don't care that much, but I feel your pain, still waiting on a version of my favorite combiner that actually has all the members and is actually good, my favorite combiner is Liokaiser. I'd only pay $30-$40 for the whole set to be honest. Even though it's the series I have to most toys from, the whole Prime Wars Trilogy is easily one of worst series ever in my opinion

  • @TrueNomadSkies

Defensor and Superion were easily the best in my opinion, where others just had some neat parts like Blot or the red Stunticon car.

I have more decepticons and then I do autobots mainly cause they usually have way more enjoyable gimmicks and designs. They feel less homogeneous to me then most of the autobots.

I have the same thing. I love individuals robots itself. But when they combine into Abominus that's when the figure looks weird. Plus it my second combiner. I'm wish I still had combaticons.

The Selects version doesn't have the fragile ports for connecting the hands and feet.
And honestly, I don't think it has worse QC than the original. In my experience it was better than the POTP version, just not improved by as much as I'd hoped.

Most of the times you jave to do some repairs yourself. Easiest is to tighten the screws. Most of the Hasbro lines, the screws aren't scewed in all the way in. Lets hope the new Menasor will be dope.

I wouldn’t recommend Sky Reign. Sky Lynx had some funky QC issues if I recall, and the only limb that looked any good solo was Trailbreaker. Wheeljack looked sickly and didn’t have enough color on him, Smokescreen was Dead End AGAIN but all the details were paved over in blanket red, and Hound? …Well, okay, Hound was fine, just a bit too dark for my liking.

The QC (and others have probably mentioned it) sucks. The individual figures 'looked' nice but aside from Hun-gurr and Blot they were all dreadfully hollow. The Abominus head design here looked very weedy too - didn't scream 'Robot Barbarian' at all.

Cutthroat & Sinnertwin (he's back to normal, it was the tiny Transformers Prime Beast Hunters version that'd renamed him as "Twinstrike") are unfortunately retools of PotP Swoop & Snarl respectively, and Blot is apparently a retool of Rippersnapper. Cutthroat being a Swoop retool is really very blatant, the transformation is the same, the general look is the same. And I take it that you probably didn't like Swoop, either. 😏😏😏
Takara Generation Selects, like their Unite Warriors stuff before it, has a paint job based on the show, whereas Hasbro Power of the Primes is done up like the G1 toys (and/or G2 too, in the case of Superion, Menasor, & Bruticus, who all have G2 color versions that were box sets). Naturally, Takara's will look better, it looks more like what you saw onscreen. Their Unite Warriors Computicon/Computron - build up the extra cash and hunt that version down, *TRUST ME* - even goes as far as ditching the proprietary fists & feet of Hasbro's Computron and giving different molds for three of the limbs!! Takara Lightspeed is a hefty retool of Wheeljack (Hasbro's is the shitty Streetwise version of the Deadend mold), Nosecone is a hefty retool of Rook (Hasbro's is that kinda shitty Brawl, also, Takara's first use of the Rook mold was as Wandering Roller from UW05 Grand Galvatron), and Strafe is a retool of Takara Blastoff (Hasbro's is a not too shabby retool of Airraid)!! The only real downer, again, is the use of the crappy hand/foot/guns, but the proprietary fists & feet WOULD make an appearance with UWEX Baldigus (aka Ruination, from RiD01).

They do give u options to switch the arms and legs. I do not recommend cutthroat being. When u transform him back, there will be problems. Lost his bird head that way (probably why his used 1 didn't have) it)

The upgrade kits from TCW is the one that I assume you are talking about, is a mess at best. The torso addons are clunky and change how hungurr's leggs sit. The abominus thighs are a mess as the addon there is held in by friction and hope. The kit does nothing to help the hip ratchets. It isn't bad by any means but for the price it isn't where it should be. I would suggest Defensor for the CW combiners if you can find a C+ Custom kit for it.

The entire critique in the beginning of this video is ridiculous because these figures work entirely based on the generation toys, I mean that's the whole entire point, to appeal to the original toys, and on second where the hell is he getting his figures from I've had mine for about 4 years now and they're in perfect condition with not a loose joint or a single scratch, what the hell is he doing throwing his figures around like dog toys 😂

As much as I love Abominus, man am I disappointed and dissatisfied with the Takara Selects release. I’m really upset I paid $200 USD on it. I don’t have nearly as many QC issues on the POTP set ironically. Sinnertwin’s combiner peg has a messed up ratchet so the combiner limb is unstable. Blot has a bad stress mark on his 5mm port for combined mode. Cutthroat’s beast head just crumbles if I look at it wrong and his legs don’t tab together. And last but not least HunGurr has some solid sounding ratchets but then when combined the gestalt just buckles forward and faceplants. I think the Seacons (both versions) had very similar issues but at least Nautilator makes a good crutch.
