    Wow! That is beautiful! I hope to be that far along at my 2 year mark...I love that you talk over your video. There are a lot of amazing woodworkers out there who don't talk and I have a hard time watching them because I wish they would explain their reasoning and thoughts behind what they're doing. Keep it up

    That is a beautiful plaque! Well done! I am a woodworker who now lives in Arkansas but I lived in Colorado Springs for 27 years and sold at many events there such as Spring Fest, Territory Days, Folk Art Festival at Rock Ledge Ranch, etc. I miss being able to go to CO Lumber and buy pretty much any type of wood imaginable. I lived in Banning Lewis Ranch on the East side of town. It's great to see a quality woodworker from Colorado Springs on RUclips. I wish you the best of luck with your channel.

    Get you a sheet of 3/4" plywood and lay on top of the tablesaw. That's what I do and it helps a ton to have that extra surface. Stays on tablesaw all the time unless it's being used and then it's easy to simply lean up against the wall until you're done......And holy cow! That piece turned out amazing. Well done!

    one trick I have found to keep purpleheart purple and redhart red and yellowhart.... well you get the idea is dye of the appropriate color. it doesn't change the color of the underlying wood-generally I can't tell the difference between dyed and undyed wood. however the dyed wood doesn't oxidize anywhere as fast as undyed wood. I use a water based dye.
    voice sounds fine

    Dude, your videos are great and the discussion style voiceover is spot on.
    You mentioned not having a dedicated workbench and use your table saw. Try taking a nice piece of flat plywood or MDF and double it up to 1.5" thick and cut it to fit your TS front to back or a little over then however wide you want it. Then put a runner on the bottom to fit the miter slot. Put a couple of stop blocks at the end of the runner to make it "lock" in when you set it down. Then you could put in some T-track or 20mm or 3/4" dog hole like an MFT. Wax it up and it would make a great work surface and TS table protector.

    Outstanding workmanship! Well done. I'm not a fan of the purpleheart, however. I think I bit thicker frame made with the same oak you used for the plaque would look richer. Just my two cents, but overall your skills are on point. (Wish I had room for a CNC, that's pretty sweet.)

      Thanks!! If you are in the position or on the fence about getting a CNC, I would highly recommend getting one! There’s so much you can do with it and a lot of fun using! Carbide3D makes a whole laundry list of different sized machines, from desktop to larger bench top machines. Best decision I’ve ever made for my woodworking journey 🤓

    Beautiful. I have my first CNC on the way and have been using the wait time to learn the software. I decided to go with VCarve Pro for now. I’m curious, could you have decreased the step over on the finishing pass and / or used a smaller diameter bit to decrease the sanding required? Obviously would make the carve longer but… god I hate sanding LOL

  • @extremewoodworker
    @extremewoodworker Год назад +1

    Nice design. I do have a few suggestions on the stars to make it look better and save you time. First, if your software permits, I suggest projecting the star v-carve onto the 3D surface of the flag. This will keep all the star sizes the same and at the same depth. Second, I suggest painting the stars before sanding the flag as this will save you an additional sanding step (unless you really like sanding - lol). Steve

    • @EricksonWoodworking
      @EricksonWoodworking  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the tips! Fusion360 has been a pain for 3D modeling. I was able to use the pencil tool that projected the star cutouts with the 3D surface. I think my zero was funky moving into it. The biggest thing was I over sanded the stars which gave that size differences between them. Anything to prevent more sanding is definitely worth looking into.
      Side note, my next one, I'll leave the stepover greater, giving it larger defined machine marks. I think this will give it a cool texture that almost mimics cloth. It's worth a try.
      Thanks again for the feedback! Cheers!

      @@EricksonWoodworking I tried the CAM portion of Fusion 360 and MeshCam for Alibre. Having already been using Vectric V-Carve Pro for about a year, both of these CAM programs seemed obtuse and difficult to use. The downside to Vectric is that it is not a CAD program.

    I thought your commentary was really good and the right amount. There are always bits of info either about the products, machinery, or wood itself that needs some details explained. I really enjoyed the video. The CNC made quick work of the waves. This is my first video of yours I have watched so I wasn’t expecting the CNC to do that part. I do have a question and it isn’t a criticism. When you were ripping your pieces for the stripes why didn’t you set up a sacrificial fence and set your width of cut to 1/2” so you didn’t have to move the blade? Thanks for sharing the video. I look forward to more in the future
