    My husband and I just got into chickens recently - our girl Poppy is a silver laced Wyandotte and she is soooo sweet. Always one of the first to greet me when I go say hi.

    My husband bought me some new chicks…one a silver laced Wyandotte, but he’s a rooster! Beautiful, but he’s mean! He’s got all my girls tore up. I separated him this evening. I have to find him a new home. He’s bit me twice….this is the pretty little chick that use to sit on my shoulder and jump in my lap every time 😢

    That's a pretty bird. People take chickens for granted. Can you imagine seeing a bird with a plumage like that in the wild?

    I think Silver Laced Wyandottes are beautiful!! I have 2 of them, & had one that just hatched baby chicks two days ago!!

      That's great! Please keep me updated on how they are doing! We've never had chicks this late into the summer and I'd love to hear about the process of that!

      @@sacredlysimple Will do!! So far they are doing great!! I have them in a small coop with a run, along with mommie, separated from the rest. I actually just got through moving it to a place that had more grass. The area that they were in was where I had turkeys to hatch, so it was mostly dirt. Most of my yard is shaded, & they were totally in the shade, but where they are now is partly shaded & partly sunny. I do have something over half of the top of it, so that there's plenty of shade all day long... AND....they have their own personal fan. 😁
      I also have some young chicks in another pen. I purchased them, & I think they are around 8 weeks old. I live a little north & west of Ft Smith, Arkansas, so it gets pretty hot (& humid) here. We've been in the 100-ish degrees lately. 🥵
      Oh, & I have another batch of baby chicks that I bought 6 weeks ago, & they are also doing great so far. No Silver Laced this year though. I have a fan set up inside the roosting quarters, so my girls & guys can be as cool as possible (at night ... they free-range during the day),&, you'll think I'm nuts, but I zip-tied a fan to the top of the coop, for my turkeys that sleep in the tree above it.... LOL. Gotta keep them cool too!! 😂

    Thought that they have rose combs. Mine has a rose comb which is better in the cold climates.

    Do you have any insight to the temperment of a Wyandotte rooster? I am thinking about picking up a few myself!!

    • @sacredlysimple
      @sacredlysimple  5 месяцев назад +1

      I don't have any personal experience with a rooster but I hear they tend to friendly but not docile. Of course, that's just a generalization.

    How do you find they are with meat production? About average, or do they end up being a larger bird?

    • @sacredlysimple
      @sacredlysimple  Год назад +1

      If you let them grow to full maturity they are gonna be 6-8 pounds, which is pretty large. They'd be standard size at about 12-16 weeks, but you'll miss out on egg production.

    • @sacredlysimple
      @sacredlysimple  Год назад +1

      The thick plumage makes them look even bigger than that.

    I love mine but they refuse to stay in their run!! They fly out everyday and run around the neighborhood

      That's interesting. We haven't had that problem with ours but our Rhode Island Reds and Easter Egger like to be where they shouldn't.
