Good review. I have several Springfield 1911s and found with my commander size Ronin that the stock mag was my problem. Tried with two WC mags and two Ed Brown mags with no issues at all; and once Springfield replaced the mag that came in the box I never ran into any feeding or cycling problems again. The Springfield 1911s are well built and fairly priced. The new TRP looks great!
Bought a new Springfield Armory 1911 TRP 4.25” Carry Contour yesterday. Took it to range right from my FFL. I could not get through a single string without numerous failures to feed. Tried all three factory included magazines…loaded 3 rds, 5rds, and full 7 rds …no matter, still got FTF. Ammo was PMC Bronze 230 FMJ ball. Went home and cleaned and lubed gun. Back at range today and gun continued to jam. I tried two Ruger mags that came with my SR1911, hoping the mags were the issue…nope, still got FTF’s. Going to another range on Friday and will try my friends Wilson Combat mags and some Sig V-Crown 230 JHP. If I still have issues, the pistol is going back to Springfield Armory. Thanks for your excellent video review. Liked and subscribed 👍🏻
I had the same problem with mine Would no go into battery. The inside corners of the slide weren't cerakoted, the mag well, barrel bushing and spring plug were not filed or polished. I sent it back to Springfield with a note expressing my disappointment with it. They polished the feed ramp and tuned the extractor. We'll see if it runs Friday. Dan wesson tcp next time.
Failures to feed is almost certainly from having too much extractor tension. I would look up a quick video of it on RUclips and take some tension off. It is a 5 minute job at the most.
@@rainworks5155 trust me, most of these t.r.p.s are garbage. I sent mine back to Springfield and they said they fixed it and it still didn't feed. It's at nighthawk being totally rebuilt.
@@BLACKWOLF-1911 I've never had one, but that's ashamed if they are really that bad. Is it a problem with the new TRPs? My garrison has been an incredibly reliable 1911.
Good review Dave. Springfield makes some nice 1911's. I have a few. As someone who daily carries a government sized 1911 in 45 acp and have for years, I tend to shy away from ones that that have less than 5" barrel and in other calibers other than 45 acp. I also prefer an all steel frame and slide. But that's just me. I have found the Wilson Combat magazines are the best for my 1911's and have never had any issues. Your mileage may vary. I always enjoy your content. Stay well.
Same sentiments here on the WC mags. I also EDC a .45 1911, though Commander length (an Ed brown Kobra Carry). Love the caliber and gun. I seriously think, for a civilian EDC, the current obsession with capacity is a weird fetish. 🙄🤣
As usual, wonderful video. Looking sharp as well J! Thank you taking the time and effort. Well done. I bought my SA Emissary after your review. As well as my CZ P10F Comp. I sold the CZ and bought a few custom Tanfoglios but I’ve kept the Emissary. It’s so accurate and easy to shoot accurately.
Been eying the older version of the TRP with rail, 9mm, those around 1000 bucks, TRP Operator around 1400-1500, not a fan of bobtail but I do like the all black 5”, a little pricey but nice, Springfield is really good with their 1911’s, lots of price ranges to choose from, well done as always. All the best!
@@mikemccauley8089 all good man. I would really love one in 9mm. I've got a gray model from a few years back. I should bring it out today just because.
Nice review.I bought an Ed Brown bobtail when they first came out and just didn't like it. I'm considering this pistol however since it's absolutely critical to carry in these current times. Back when I bought the Kobra you could still get buy with a 35" Louisville Slugger or a 10" 16oz. sap.The forged aluminum frame and 20LPI are going to be the high points. The 20LPI is great I have the same on my Springfield HRT Pro, very effective. I have had some desk drivers almost wince at the range when they ask too shoot it. Keep up the good work 👋👍
I've been seriously considering purchasing this exact pistol (if it's ever approved for sale in Kaleefornya). Your demonstration helped make up my mind, for which I thank you.
I’ve got the couple yr old model of the TRP but mine has bull barrel and full length guide rod. Notice they changed that. I did just get the commander size emissary with rail. It has full length GR and bull barrel. Now I have both emissaries. Nice weapon but do like my TRP better. Great vid.

Pretty interesting. If I put my sig 1911 carry 4.2 next to Springfield close to a look a like. Except the Sig has no refrigerator, dishwasher, or a/c attachment rail. Sig no failures in any of the 8 round magazines. Two oem and numerous Wilson Combat mags. I did pickup two chip McCormick 8 round spwith out the bulging base plates of the Wilson’s or the oem magazines. I have not fired the weapon with the chip McCormick mags yet. Didn’t make much sense to me have a rounded butt and then through in magazines the go out further than the rounded butt. So ends the myth with imprinting if that’s the reason. So with the McCormick mag it sits flush without going past the rounded butt just like the old 7 round mags 1911 did. One noticeable difference on the Sig is the external extractor. Btw I enjoy your Opinion very much. You shoot and tell it like it is the good, bad and ugly of a weapon. 👍
A Dan Wesson ECP or Guardian would be a good comparison to this pistol since they have bobtail frames and are similar in barrel length. If you want to compare this to something with a rail, perhaps the Dan Wesson TCP would work well. At the price point for this TRP pistol, I would compare it to all of these Dan Wesson models before buying.
It's very true that the current TRP offerings overlap with Dan Wesson's offerings big time. You can get a Specialist cheaper than the current TRP and that comes with zero mim parts and a better overall product imo (I own 3 DW's). Though I won't knock SFA on their higher end 1911's as they do know how to make them well but like you I'd focus on a DW first.

Give it a try. Good dam ammo. 👍🇺🇸. What I like about PSA with their ammo. That they produce their own primers. After over 2,500 rounds of 380acp, .308, 45acp and 9mm. Not, 1 issue so far.

I just picked up the black version of this pistol and am having the same issue with light hammer strikes every 3rd round. I talked with Springfield and they are sending me a new main spring and a new recoil spring. The weight for the main spring is 19# and the recoil spring is 20# after i switch them out i will repost my findings. its a tack driver when it works but every 3rd round has a issue. I think it is short stroking, I might try a 18# recoil spring before I send it back in.
*update* after receiving the springs from S.A. I did notice that the main spring in the gun was a lot shorter . After replacing the main spring and recoil spring i went back to the range and the gun did not have any light primer strikes. I did run 3 1/2 boxes of ammo through it, white box fmj, federal fmj. Remington fmj and some herters fmj . I now have a total of 250 rounds through the gun and it is very nice. now that it is broken I did clean and oil it and rechecked the trigger weight and it sits a little over 3lbs. I'm very happy with it. I know the price is steep but the end product in my opinion is verry nice. Hope this helps.

I've seen one other gun review of this gun and thought it came in a Pelican type case with cut foam insert. For 2K, that's what it should be...
That was special packaging for an elite few reviewers. I'm not on that list - was lucky to get a loaner. ;-)
Three strikes to fire a primer could be fatal.
For that price it ought to be dlc coated.
