Even vinny isnt immune to how many views the first one got. its quite tempting, you could even call it his precious
I truly believe the Gollum game concept could have worked if you strongly honed in on those psychological horror aspects. Gollum is tortured, broken and mentally gutted by the One Ring. He should be having hallucinations, hearing strange and frightening voices, and his split-personality should be way more prevalent. Then have actually good stealth mechanics and physics. And DONT make it Mordor prison sim.
So basically make it a completely different game.
Also, to ensue some sympathy, have him look the way he sees himself, not the scrungy, malformed goblin he actual is.
Agree completely. The game’s bad but I think people are missing the mark by calling the concept inherently flawed. Gollum’s one of the most interesting characters in LotR: depraved, unhinged, and ugly, but also tragic. His characterization naturally leads into stealth mechanics and platforming, and the psychological component could be interpreted into a kind of morality or sanity system. It’s just that all of those ideas are botched in this game.
You know what, that'd be an interesting take. Shame we got this shit compared to the ideas mentioned here...

I have a certain degree of fondness for this game, it's at least terrible in a loveably incompetent way. Like, this should have been cancelled YEARS ago, and it's still not finished.
I theorise that one day the staff were told they were making a 3D AAA game much to their surprise, and their subsequent requests for e.g. "A Beginner's Guide to Autodesk Maya" were denied as "being outside the scope of this quarter's budget".

This is a 15 hours game, maybe even 20 with all these game overs, 8 if you're going really well and fast through it.
So I went by never hearing of this game before the first stream (I maybe heard of it but just forgot and didn't at all care) and I saw the objectives out of context and thought they were real for a bit because I just assumed this was a joke meme game. The fact that it isn't at all is just so absurd and has made it way more funny. I've also noticed gollum is basically the morbius of this summer.

The Ring for sure led Smeagol to kill his friend. Even upon first seeing it. If it has the power to tempt Galadriel, it has the power to make a hobbit kill his friend. After getting The Ring, he became at odds with himself. Likely, the traumatic act of killing his friend caused him to dissociate and create Gollum. More and more, any and all parts of him that were dark or even gray became part of Gollum, leaving behind everything else for Smeagol. Which is why he is so child-like.
It really is heart-breaking because he is trying to take control of his better nature up until nearly the very end. At that point, it was a mercy letting him hold the ring for one more moment and die with it. It's nobody's fault what happened. Not Sam's, Frodo's or Smeagol's. Well, I guess it is ultimately Sauron's. And maybe those assholes who captured Smeagol and made him think Frodo betrayed him. That closed off Smeagol's heart for good. Should have just taken Frodo at his word and maybe Smeagol could have gotten some semblance of a happy ending.
Ah yes, this will be a one-off, just like CP2077.

They planned to make 4 LotR games, this was one of them. Another one is a LotR MMO made by the people who made New World. Exploit could not have been a better word choice because they're going for quantity over quality.

I like how Gollum turns into a Flatwood Monster anytime he's in shadow.
You can see Vinny desperately trying to speedrun the game for the first 15 minutes because he has a need to breed. He eventually slows down to enjoy the foreplay, though.
I still think Vinny should play LEGO lord of the rings. He should play it immediately after playing this a third time.

This game is so bizarre. Even if it was made competently, it's a movie-based game that grossly drags out a very minor story detail that only book nerds would care about, without apparently adding anything to said story. And perhaps a different kind of nerd might be interested in the breeding cells thing.
Did you know Gollum is supposed to have clothes.
Tolkien put out an official guide to illustrating LotR, because he forgot to bring some important things up clearly in the story itself, where he dedicates 3 pages to hairy feet. In fact, early illustrators thought Gollum was some fucking massive ogre, that's how poorly Tolkien physically described the dude.
The movie design correctly makes him very pale, but he's supposed to have pockets full of sharp rocks and bat wings and other weird shit, and in the rare event someone sees him when he doesn't want to be seen, they think he's a bigass squirrel or something, 'cause he's covered in animal skins and rags.
I think this game was trying to make him cute so the player would pity him more, but movie Gollum is not cute. Movie Gollum is the quintessential Redditor.
