I agree. Something about the violence back then felt extremely visceral and disturbing. Maybe it was the music and art style. Idk. It definitely lost that touch in Shippuden.

Hiruzen is one tough old cat to fight the reanimated Hashirama and Tobirama at the same time AND still have enough chakra to handle Orochimaru AND perform Reaper Death sealing on him in such a short timespan!!! 🔥 Hiruzen is really underrated.
Rewatching this fight it occurred to me how good of a storyteller kishimoto is. Taking orocuimarus arms is paralleled by the Adam and Eve story where God took the serpents arms and made him slither on his belly after he had tempted Adam and Eve with the fruit of knowledge.
Another biblical tie to Adam and Eve is how Kaguya eats the fruit from the divine tree and gains power, just like Satan said the apple would do even though that was a lie
That Combo Hiruzen used on Orochimaru before Enma broke his neck was one of the nastiest in the series. I watched the seen over and over again and noticed that Hiruzen actually broke his knee before Enma got ahold of him. And then paper bombing the reanimating was pure fitness. Overall the animation in this fight is top tier. It’s probably in my 5 best Naruto fights. Also just one more thing that I find gnarly is that mud substitution isn’t a substitution at all. It’s Orochimaru’s snake style molting jutsu. Meaning he actually got his neck snapped. Orochimaru is insanely durable.

The reason why Minatos Coffin never fully appeared was because his soul was trapped in the belly of the reaper which in turn cancelled any ninjutsu from bringing him back.
Naruto was peak when Orochimaru was the main villain. His character was so brilliantly sick and twisted. Obito and Madara were cool but their intentions were cheesy imo.

The situation was that Itachi and Kisame were trying to kidnap Naruto, that was the whole goal. Even if Jiraiya was supposedly no match Itachi could have put him in a Genjutsu, grabbed Naruto and left. Jiraiya even says himself that the two would "d*e by his hands" and I doubt, at the time this was written, that Jiraiya was talking nonsense. It is just a case of inconsistent writing due to the changes they made for Shippuden and the problem with power creep storytelling. Though why wasn't Jiraiya just boosted to keep consistent with him being a Legendary and Powerful Ninja? Instead is power lvl is like Mid at the least, so much for being "Legendary".

This was the first fight I saw in Naruto and it had me hooked to watch the series. My sister was watching one day and I sat down and she was on the episode before this, and kept watching and I was hyped with this fight started, and I starting watching from the start after that
Man, I just love it. When Hashirama punches Hiruzen in the face, I could just watch that over and over again! Serves Hiruzen right for all the sins he committed as the Hokage.
Hiruzen did his best, trying to fill the shoes of previous Hokages. I say he ruled admirably, a far better option than other prospects (such as Danzo).
You know, I just realized that despite Kakashi saying “This must be how the Sandaime” felt when he was ready to face Sasuke, the one who actually felt what Hiruzen was going through was Jiraiya, even to the point of dying with a smile as they entrusted the next generation to succeed where they couldn’t. Perhaps the two were able to understand one another better than most. Maybe even before the end.
I think he could’ve beat him here, Emma knows he was holding back while fighting Orochimaru. He wasn’t trying to fight him but more as just defending himself from his attacks.

This Fight was the most fun of all for me. I wanted so badly that Lord Sarutobi beats this iconic but evil villain. But at the same time I knew he was going to die- not killing is old student but removing the power of his arms- was just so satisfying an devilous trick for a evil snake! It kinda suck for me when he finally found a way to reuse his arms by taking the body of somebody else. But then Sasuke finally killed him and I was "okay finalllly".
I’m not a huge Naruto fan and never watched the series , I was watching Anime House and came here to see what type of Character Orochimaru was and watching this fight for the first time I’m not disappointed, this guy is an inexcusable badass 💯🔥🤷🏾♂️

The actual answer is that Masashi Kishimoto didn't know that much yet about what they were capable of. In world explanation is the reanimation jutsu used Edo Tensei was extremely experimental as live people were needed to even try the jutsu out once so it was far from perfected and Orchimaru had lots of time on his hands to research it after Hiruzen stole the use of his hands.

But still at his prime peak level Hiruzen would be able to give a good long lasting fight to Hashirama but never will he able to defeat him because Hashirama is of a completely different level. How come the first hokage wasn't able to break free from orochimaru's control when he was summoned this time? When he was summoned during the ninja war orochimaru said the first hokage could release his binding anytime he wanted to and I can see the first hokage clearly had his consciousness before orochimaru placed the control tags into his head.

Can someone explain to me why the Anbu didn't attack/kill the Four Sound Ninja that were responsible for the barrier keeping people out? They were preoccupied with keeping the barrier intact and as such were wide open to attack. The Anbu could've easily slaughtered them then help Lord Third kill the snake.
No. Its the same reanimated jutsu when Orochimaru did it later in the series. They just added more BS and retconned some and they made some high powered ninja having capable of control and break out reanimation jutsu
Does anybody else think this fight lasted way longer then it should have? I mean it was like 5-6 episodes of them facing each other and little payoff. Episode 75 and 76 they were in pretty much the same stance and position Idk a lot of fans like this battle but I’m one of the few who think it was too drawn out and boring.
Im really curious why they switched the voice actors around. Both pf them are the same as during the war arc except the voice actors did the opposite character. I agree with the decision but its a bit jarring to come back to this scene

I think he could’ve beat him here, Emma knows he was holding back while fighting Orochimaru. He wasn’t trying to fight him but more as just defending himself from his attacks.

You know you’re a powerful shinobi when the King of an entire species is loyal to you. Enma is taughted as the strongest of all animal summons and is kage level (lore wise him and hirzuen fought on the battlefield as equals the guides state) and he wears a leaf headband cause he is a full blown shinobi in his own right.

This Fight was the most fun of all for me. I wanted so badly that Lord Sarutobi beats this iconic but evil villain. But at the same time I knew he was going to die- not killing is old student but removing the power of his arms- was just so satisfying an devilous trick for a evil snake! It kinda suck for me when he finally found a way to reuse his arms by taking the body of somebody else. But then Sasuke finally killed him and I was "okay finalllly".
I’m not a huge Naruto fan and never watched the series , I was watching Anime House and came here to see what type of Character Orochimaru was and watching this fight for the first time I’m not disappointed, this guy is an inexcusable badass 💯🔥🤷🏾♂️

The actual answer is that Masashi Kishimoto didn't know that much yet about what they were capable of. In world explanation is the reanimation jutsu used Edo Tensei was extremely experimental as live people were needed to even try the jutsu out once so it was far from perfected and Orchimaru had lots of time on his hands to research it after Hiruzen stole the use of his hands.
I think the voice actors were swapped. So in part 2 hashirama had tobiramas voice and vice versa

Kishimoto made them stronger in shippuden, Hashirama in part one was just known for his wood release and Tobirama was just known for his high level water release

Times when I used to think Hiruzen was stronger than Hashirama. But still at his prime peak level Hiruzen would be able to give a good long lasting fight to Hashirama but never will he able to defeat him because Hashirama is of a completely different level. Remember Hashirama was only Naruto in his next birth 😁

How come the first hokage wasn't able to break free from orochimaru's control when he was summoned this time? When he was summoned during the ninja war orochimaru said the first hokage could release his binding anytime he wanted to and I can see the first hokage clearly had his consciousness before orochimaru placed the control tags into his head.

Bro was a monster at like 60+. Orochimaru+Edo 1st(~60%)+Edo 2nd(~60%) had to jump basically an elderly man, and Orochimaru STILL ALMOST took an L ? Plot had to kill off Lord 3rd, he was easily JUST as thuggish as Hashirama and Tobirama

Can someone explain to me why the Anbu didn't attack/kill the Four Sound Ninja that were responsible for the barrier keeping people out? They were preoccupied with keeping the barrier intact and as such were wide open to attack. The Anbu could've easily slaughtered them then help Lord Third kill the snake.
Interesting enough, In the manga Sarutobi can barely use enma, the old age was really his downfall.

No. Its the same reanimated jutsu when Orochimaru did it later in the series. They just added more BS and retconned some and they made some high powered ninja having capable of control and break out reanimation jutsu

Does anybody else think this fight lasted way longer then it should have? I mean it was like 5-6 episodes of them facing each other and little payoff. Episode 75 and 76 they were in pretty much the same stance and position
