When he was summoned during the ninja war orochimaru said the first hokage could release his binding anytime he wanted to and I can see the first hokage clearly had his consciousness before orochimaru placed the control tags into his head.

Can someone explain to me why the Anbu didn't attack/kill the Four Sound Ninja that were responsible for the barrier keeping people out? They were preoccupied with keeping the barrier intact and as such were wide open to attack. The Anbu could've easily slaughtered them then help Lord Third kill the snake.
