Here comes some facts about the 320 Si: True BMW motorsport homologation cars. Handbuilt at BMW motorsport AG. They are actually more motorsport cars than all the M cars, except the M3 E30, which also is a homologation special (5000 first built). All were built within a year to be able to homologate the 320 Si for WTCC. They have a handbuilt engine from Hams hall F1 factory in England, based on the N43 but with bigger bore with liners and a special steel crank with shorter stroke to stay under 2000cc. Made for higher revving. The have also steel rods and high compression (11:1) pistons and a specially casted cylinder head with big valves and ports.
The engine is located further back and is also lowered. To make this work they used the Z4 gearbox and a shorter propshaft. Rear axle ratio is 4:10 instead of 3:62.
Suspension is special tuned M sport with M sport sway bars and control arms. Brakes are from the 325 (300mm). They all had BBS Motorsport wheels model 216 standard. Weight distribution is 50/50 and the Si is the lightes E90ever produced. They also are full M sport equipped inside and outside. In race trim they produced 280-300 hp at 8400 rpm, depending on when in the racing season.

@@lolish1234 you have to take a look at every manufacturer that competed in touring car racing back from the late 80's and up to late 2000. Everyone used 2 liter n/a engines with rev limitation as that was the regulations back then. At the peak of development the engines produced over 300 hp at 8500 rpm.

Sauber were involved in the engine development and the rocker cover is carbon fibre. But are they really any good at all ? Power's not great from them, they didn't have a limo and the elephant in the room with the 320Si is the cylinder block cracking - which has or will happen to every single one of them because of the way it's designed.

It was devastatingly quick with incredible handling [for the time]. The 320Si is luke warm and has a catastrophic flaw in the engine design - the gap between the cylinders is too narrow and the walls crack. I'm a straight six E46 man myself so that may colour my opinion on all E92s but I honestly don't think the 320Si was one of BMWs best.
