This is great! Thanks Kaw I have been using a lake troller, but I want to try your for salmon in BC on Canada's west coast. What weight cannonball do you use. Would 8lb be too much? Or would you recommend a 6lb weight? Based on your video I attached the Scotty 1026 pedestal swivel mount to reduce the drag when trolling.
Thanks! I would say 6lb is probably the max I would use, any more and it makes tracking much more difficult, especially in heavy current. Especially if you're not able to maintain speed.
Hey I forgot to mention last time about your trolling speed...use a drift anchor off the left or right side of the stern of the boat..as you troll it will slow you to a crawl ...the. use your motor to speed up to your trolling speed....also they make trolling plates for your outboard as well...I prefer the Happy Troller when I used them... Hope this helps! Oh and enjoy the downrigger ...you will be happy with the results!
@@KAWFISHING I'm gonna try this out offshore fishing Miami. Have never seen a kayaker here using a downrigger and lures ever. It makes perfect sense to troll along reefs.
Thanks for replying back, Kaw. I know you're using the 1060. I use two 1050s on both sides of my PA. I had thought about upgrading to the 1060s but found that having two drums that size would leave little room on the interior of the boat. Here's the kicker.... The Scotty 1050 and 1060 mounting plate are the same size. Meaning, it's a quick switch if I ever did or wanted to upgrade. The reason I bring this up is because that in your video, you said it would take 2 Hobie Universal Mounting Plates to mount to 1 Scotty Base. I can assure you that is not the case. It only takes one. Josh Hoines has a great video on his channel about how he went about mounting his 1050s to his H-rails. I copied his technique and have absolutely no issues. Believe it or not, those H-Rails stand up pretty well to my 4lb downrigger balls. If you ever want to move away from that 2027 mounting bracket and move to something thats a little more secure and doesn't wiggle around that much, you can hit me up on FB at facebook.com/chad.morrison.98 . I'd be more than willing to drop you some detailed photos of my mounting bases and how I built them. Tight lines bro!
Thanks for the link! I like mine set up for convenience to swap back and forth with the boat, but good to know the Hobie mount can support it also. Will look into it if I want to dual mount downriggers on my setup.
@@fishnfly_pnw9198 would you be willing to share. I also have a 1060 and I'm having same issue. And need to come up with a better solution for mounting.
Great information. This is exactly what I need. Thank you.
Thanks! you solved a problem I have had - didn't know where to start.

Kaw, are you still using that 2027 mounting bracket?
Still my go to for mounting the 1060. Will see how it performs over extended period of time come salmon season.
