*We tried this out finally yesterday and it worked awesome! **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s we put it on our 16 foot aluminum boat and trolled with it. We didn’t catch anything but it was still fun and worked awesome! Can’t wait to use this baby again and hopefully reel in a big ole fish! Very easy to install and set up.*
this is a great video, I can see how this is an awesome option for a pedal yak. I'm probably going to try the paracord method to see if it can work on my canoe in place of my current lead line setup
Great Lesson, thanks for posting! Can you comment on safety with regards to waves and boat wakes? I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has experience with this type of setup on a lake where you get more boat wakes or some more rolling surfaces.
Great video man, I have been deliberating what kind of DR to get and I thought I needed an electric one but this video convinced me otherwise. Fish on...
Great video! I'm in Lincoln, after this covid stuff I'd love to know if you do any kayak meet ups. I'm new to this kayak stuff, but I'm trying to jump in deep! I have a nucanoe pursuit with a pivot drive and I'm doing research for a down rigger.
Can you run 50 ft . of line and then use a rubber band and attach weight to rubber band? I know it would be hard in a kayak but could work in a boat to give you an edge ! Can you show me an example of this method! I heard some people caught many fish using this method with a threaded worm . or why would you use this method when you have a down rigger ( example would be video on Alamnor with big daddy guide . Thanks for the information will use it summer trout fishing
The other advantage of using braid instead of the steel is that the steel line hums very loudly when moving. Braid doesn't. Love the Scotty Mini Lake troller. Use mine on my kayak all of the time.
Great video Wes! There was some great information in this video. Say, do you think the shuttle hawk would work on your 200lbs braided down rigger line? Or would it need to have something with more rigidity in the line?
Rich Dagsher I don’t think the shuttle hawk works on braided like. On my kayak I kept the steel line and use the shuttle hawks. Even Stack one line to left on ball and shuttle hawks to right sometimes. Can get mastered. Important to not tighten the downrigger too much as this allows it to release if ball hangs up on Tree or rocks. That happens and it’s a bit of a jerk on kayak for sure. Didn’t capsize yet.
I agree with Lothar. The Shuttle Hawk is not great on Dacron line. I also think it works better at faster speeds. Sometimes we are trolling .8-1.2 MPH, and its just not enough to push the shuttle up and down.
Fish Hunt Shoot Productions yes. Gotta speed up a bit to get the shuttle pushed down. But it stays down even at 0.8 mph. Makes trolling much easier especially if bite is hot or line comes off and then lost fish such as with hot Kokanee bite. I understand concern for safety with steel line.
I use a shuttle hawk on my kayak with braided down rigger line. It always goes down easily. Sometime I need to speed up for a few seconds to start it coming up. I use it successfully.
Mark B I did try it, definitely mark out the positions of you rod holder and downrigger and it worked good for me. Takes some getting used to. Very stressful at first
Kudos to FHSP and the zero edit of cohesive, concise, non-scripted, and stream of consciousness captured.
Great video. Simple and easy understand. I'm going to add a DR on my 14' skiff and I'll try some of your techniques.
Thanks for sharing that. Not new to kayak fishing but downriggers I am. This was very helpful.
Thanks for watching!!

Did you ever get this to work in your canoe? I have a paddle kayak and not sure I can pull this off.

Great video Wes
Very good down rigger tutorial !!!!
Perfect explanation, not as entertaining as the other Clown on this channel but #1.
Glad you liked it!
You made my day. Wes, how do you know if your bait is not tangling with the flasher? I always find my bait tangled on my flasher. Ty
Dang Wes, you're a great teacher!! Thanks for the video 👍

Awesome, looking to put one on my Hobie Outback for salmon.
Perfect!!!
Would love to know where you are in this video. Looks like an amazing place to try our downriggers. Thanks for the video. Great information.
This was filmed at Sugar Pine, just East of Foresthill CA. Its a great little lake. Perfect for kayaking.
How far forward are your scotty flush mounts for rod holder, and downrigger on your Hobie?
Great video. Very helpful and informative

Great video
What like were you on?
What kayak do you use?
Theoretically if you did not have the pedal drive do you think you’d be able to do this with a paddle ?
Really great video btw!
@@juancarlosorozco3487 I think so...It's important to continue moving forward, but yes....Make it happen!...
Fish Hunt Shoot Productions thank you sir
@@juancarlosorozco3487 Did you ever figure this out with a paddle kayak?! I want to try this setup, I Am sick of leadcore.

Thank you. May I ask where you got your downrigger? Neither local dealers or internet seem to carry that model.
It’s Scotty #1073 Laketroller. I don’t remember where I purchased mine at, but they are available online.
@@FHSTackle They're on back order across the board. I will call Scotty to find out what is going on. Thank you.
@@FHSTackle I found them at a dealer recommended by Scotty. Thanks
Are you in an older Hobie Outback?
Ues
Yes
More videos with Wes please!
Why 200lb test, wouldn’t 80lb or 50lb be a better choice?
