wonderful... too bad such talks get relegated to the academy. When I was young they were more commonly available across classes and stations of living... but there has been a concerted effort to shrink what is considered and offered in public education and in the mainstream. Perhaps one always had to seek them out, but it seems even more convoluted a process to land on such inspiring "talk". I think that has been purposeful
The struggle for our freedom and our sovereignty must continue.!!! The great awakening is happening and moving forward......She probably will never know how many seeds she planted in the minds of us. Now its time to enjoy the fruits of the labor...its rehab time!👊👊
I'd just finished reading "The Warmth of Other Suns" and started "The New Jim Crow". I ran across this (marvelous) conversation after listening to Isabel Wilkerson... Struck by how the one narative flows so smoothly and tragically to the other...
As I expected, great questions and great answers and important emphasis on how whites have manipulated the fear factor to control and suppress natural disgust with an unfair extremely bigoted system. Franz Fanon wrote an entire guide to defeating this cycle of oppression through fear and confinement utilized by whites in the 1960s. Vote for not great but perfect America. Andrea Flynn from the Roosevelt Institute- it's all about economics. Thank you for the upload.
When you say whites, maybe you know or don’t know.....but the elites of the world control agenda and policy. Sad as it is our politicians are easily manipulated by bribes or blackmail. They’re more powerful today than ever and they are flipping us as we sit at home virus bound. See the 4th industrial revolution. See Sophia, the first robot with citizenship in Saudi Arabia.
It has always amazed me that most defenders of the status quo, resent the idea of wealth redistribution! What do they think capitalism does? The statistics Miss Davis mentioned, is indicative of how extreme the distribution of wealth has become. Redistribution is an absolute must, if we are to address the inequalities that exist in our country and the world. The people with the most resources and who produce most of the wealth, must accept an inordinately minor portion! How is that just?
"We are contributing to that continuum of freedom that we might not personally experience, but the next generation that follows will." Wow...I love her optizm and her intense passion towards real change for the future. She is amazing...thanks for all you for the Black community, Angela Davis!
No communism is nothing like fascism. Communists were the first group the Nazis went after in Germany. Fascism has a long history of being a reactionary movement against leftists. Your analysis is seriously lacking in nuance. "Yes, I am a communist, and I consider it one of the greatest honors because we are struggling for the total liberation of the human race." - Angela Davis
That's impossible because antisemitism birthed racism and racism has a very close relationship with sexism, transphobia, xenophobia, etc. We need to examine all of these factors.
Much respect for BLM and its founding members...but like politics, once money and others were introduced, BLM lost its *"Ground Roots movement"* By all means please read "Soledad Brother" by George Jackson and "The New Jim Crow" by Michele Alexander.

Capitalism is the driving force behind racism. Racism is the condition of the possibility of capitalism and its exploitations. And I am not a Marxist but a Catholic priest. But truth is truth.
Not only has there been "very little progress," as Davis says here, but there has actually been regression, particularly since about the year 1980.
The most ambitious crossover event in the history of prison abolition.
you're living in a fantasy world.
It's a must that our community recognize Michelle as a champion and as one of the Most Esteemed leaders of our time.
Amen!

This was one of the shortest hour and forty minutes ever I could listen to them both talk for days.

Both of the women are legends in their own right! Beautiful black goddesses!
I took time and listened to the whole dialogue. This was great for me especially being quarantined in this Covid 19 pandemic.
Michelle Alexander for President for 2020

They happen on university campuses, but usually, the public is welcome.
I can't help but smile seeing these two together
When Quintez asked his question... Angela has to stand up to answer it!!!! My GAWD in heaven!!! Lol I loved it

Angela is absolutely correct, very little progress, I don’t see any changes in WS and I am 73

I want to know what she was going to say about the cracks in capitalism!
a decided lack of concern for the people suffering now.
So important!
This is such a treat!
Live me some Angela Yvonne Davis if I can come back and the next life reincarnated it would be a bird and Angela
I remember she came to our school in 1987 to tell us stories.
What kind of stories? Do you remember any?
