"instead of accepting the things I cannot change, I'm changing the things I cannot accept" - words to live by
DITTO👊
Wow...... how profound.
Was my inspiration in 1970. Is still a inspiration today. I was 15 then and very impressionable to Civil Rights Human Rights Movement. Even though I was not a young black woman , I am white I knew women of every color every race from any background needed to be heard. She let Me know that it was OK to have that voice of change and to use it.
Say that!!!
What happens when the things you can't accept become something you can't change when you try to change them‽
What a country we live in, I choose to keep hoping
the country is great and that is why millions are coming in every year. losers and criminals want everything free, so they resort to dealing drugs, looting, car breaksins etc. This woman is a crook for blaming others while not taking responsibiluty for their shortcomings and lack of will to put in the hard work to get ahead in life.
@@kanank13 She's a typical American Fraud, uses all of the country's freedoms for her own selfish needs, but then condemns the country at every corner, SMH I don't know how anyone can listen to one word she says? Those are not endearing "Qualities".
@@kanank13 Who is she blaming? And what shortcomings and lack of will is she not taking responsibility for?
I interviewed her back in the mid 1980s. She is an American icon for freedom. She has endured the absolute worst this country has to offer.
Angela Davis IS the absolute worst this country has to offer.
"No change is possible without hope. No movement is possible without hope". The GOAT Angela Davis
AMAN. The very fight for freedom & fairness are still unrequited. 🙏
A communist is an "icon." Truly liberalism is a mental disorder
She is currently a professor in LA I believe. One day while walking down the hall she was accosted by a younger faculty member; They spoke briefly. The conversation having ended, the young teacher walked in the opposite direction from Ms. Davis. As the younger teacher approaches a class doorway, she is met by a much older bespectacled male professor who happened to witness the encounter between she and Ms. Davis. He says to her "Do you know who that is"? She answers with a queer smile, "Yeah, that's Ms Davis." He says, "Yes, that's Ms Davis but do you know her past?" Not waiting for a reply and with a hearty laugh, he jokingly suggests that if she didn't want the FBI eyeing her every move, she should limit her contact with Ms Davis. LOL.LOL
How about her puritan ancestors that came over on the mayflower? Her reaction was priceless.
😆😆she owes herself reparations.
@@desolateone8403 I have mi'qmak blood she owes me too.
June 4, 1972 Angela Davis acquitted by an all-white jury. An important date that speaks to the possibility of interracial understanding. This year, on that date, it will be 50 years since that nationally important event.
Are there any reports of interviews with the jurors?
@@joehalliday6081 Boy, I would really like to hear what some of them had to say afterward. It was too easy for many white people to demonize Angela Davis as a dangerous subversive. // As for me... every time I see footage of her speaking I always come away thinking how well she articulates her views.
@@rr7firefly yes, educated and articulate. Some would say an excellent speaker and inspiring. Yet, there hasn’t been much change. The same problems exist 50 years later. So, in my view her effect is dismissible. Same crap different day/decade.
@@joehalliday6081 It's enormously frustrating, but there is value in informing the public about certain issues. Change occurs at a glacial pace, if it occurs at all. People like Davis have an effect on people's minds and their hearts. That can influence and inspire them to get involved in solving our most urgent problems. But there are powerful forces working in the opposite direction -- preserving the status quo that favors the rich and those who do their bidding (insert you favorite villain politician here). Everyone who works for social justice and environmental causes is on the hit list for intimidation or threats of physical harm. Even Greta Thunberg gets pretty scary letters and phone calls because of her message. Does that mean we give up? That is for us each to decide.
Yes. Read my comments. 💗
I literally bumped into her once on campus at San Francisco State University! We were both rounding a corner in opposite directions outside the cafeteria and met in shock with two big smiles at our intense momentum, clashed with laughter and recognition and apologies from each of us. A lovely, intelligent woman; an inspiring speaker I’ve had the opportunity to hear in person on campus at Michigan State. Our brief meeting, a blessed gift!

Angela Davis was tried and ACQUITTED of those charges (by an ALL-WHITE JURY YET)! But you keep believing that she's guilty.
Would you believe that if she were WHITE? I don't think so.
You're like those people who still believe that O.J. Simpson was guilty, even though he too was acquitted. Since then, he was constantly harassed and vilified, with people calling him "murderer" right to his face. Then the families of the two victims, his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, sued him for the "damages" he allegedly inflicted on them, even though it was like putting him on trial again after he was already found not guilty, which would have been a violation of the "Double Jeopardy" clause of the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution. Of course, it didn't matter to the people who filed this suit, just so long as they could say "We got O.J. Simpson." Incredibly enough, they actually won. On top of that, Ron Goldman's father, Fred Goldman, has been howling for Simpson's blood for nearly three decades. He even offered the former football player a large amount of money if he would just confess to the murders, but Simpson turned it all down. Maybe he had nothing to confess to.
It's never occurred to anyone that the verdict in the Simpson trial was correct, that the accused was found not guilty because HE WAS NOT GUILTY!
Similarly, it's never occurred to you, Dennis, that Angela Davis was also acquitted because he deserved to be acquitted, that she was innocent of all wrongdoing, or that she was framed for the crimes she was accused of because certain people didn't like her leftist politics, or because she was always vigorously speaking out against racism and against the system that she felt was perpetuating racial injustice, or perhaps even because of the color of her skin.
I consider myself a liberal, but I'll admit that there were times when I felt that Davis went too far with her radical rhetoric, and I wasn't quite comfortable with her being a Communist. But even so, that's no reason for her (or anybody else for that matter) to be punished for a crime she probably never committed. That is NOT justice!
Beauty, brains, and badassery.
What a goof.
I remember seeing her Most Wanted poster in the post office .
Actually, Dr. Angela Davis was not a member of the Black Panther Party, although she did support them. Just like Mumia wasn't a MOVE member, he was in support of the organization.
My first realization, was in the reaction of the horror of the “Birmingham church bombing” 60 years ago. And I weep for them this day. Then came our Archangel. That is you. Today, once again, our backs are against the wall. Speak Truth to Power, no justice, no peace. Know Justice and Know Peace ✊🏽🧬😎🇺🇸

A strong black woman she is my hero as well
The interviewer did not ask the very important questions like when she talked about abolition, why did she not ask what happens when somebody actually does something very very very unforgivable even in the most perfect Society.
She didn't mean an immediate declaration abolishing prisons. She was talking about the hope that if society did a better job of supporting those at risk, there wouldn't be a need for prisons, and what changes she believes would make it possible.
Personally, I agree with you that it's unrealistic at best.
Back in the late 89’s/early 90’s I was fed a heavy dose of the same kumbayah stuff while in college.
Fortunately I graduated, got off the campus, and wised up.
Sadly there are a lot of other people who might graduate, but never really leave the campus.
Davis chose to immerse herself in Communism, going so far as studying/ earning a degree in East Germany.
Take a moment to think...
The stated prison objectives of punishment and rehabilitation Can be met Outside of the prison industrial complex. That Does Not Mean setting loose dangerous offenders that threaten public safety.
It Could Mean smaller locked down facilities.
It could mean separating offenders based on their crimes and monitoring them electronically.
There are many ways to do this better.
There used to be debtor's prison.
That practice was reformed. The same could be done with a lot of other offenses.
@@debbiegum2226And you chose to not pay attention to what she said in this interview regarding communism. Fortunately, most other people have better comprehension skills than you.
Thank you Ms. Angela Davis for always speaking the truth about what is happening in America. You have been saying 50 yes ago we still have the same issue racial injustice, lack of criminal justice reform, white Suppremecy. The fight for equality and our freedom is still going on. You are a true American Patriot Ms. Davis for always speaking what is true.
This great woman has the DNA of a "Harriet Tubman!"

What "white supremacy"? Are you talking about Angela Davis' recent DNA results that reveal that she has slavemasters in her family tree? Is that the hero you seek?
She don't have to change one word out of her speech back in the 70's, just play the tape, and dated 2022, no one would know the different, nothing have changed.

No matter where you're been , no matter where you go, no matter what you have done you will get old one day !
May we all make Good Trouble!
Learning from history! Excellent point Angela ! PROGRESSIVE Democrat here! I have always admired Thomas Paine. The author of COMMON SENSE! Paine wanted to free the slaves and give women the right to vote in 1776! I took an Advanced History class in the 1970's. Paine's book was NOT listed on the recommended reading list so I read it on my own. After finishing that book I thought "No wonder they didn't want us to read this book!" It was a very ,very ,very PROGRESSIVE book! Corporate Democrats / Republican Lite and Republicans are ALL owned by Corporations! They enjoy the status quo. That is exactly why nothing changes for the better in the USA. Mark Twain once said "If voting made any difference, they wouldn't let us do it"! I always vote but I have very low expectations of any real positive change! Follow the $$$$$$! Always follow the $$$$$ in the USA!
Capitalism is the deal, deal maker, deal breaker in America.
We read Common Sense in high school. I graduated in 1963. Never saw it in any college class.

Douglass High School Class of '73 here; Angela is my spiritual big sister, and her generation was a big reason for my Afrocentricity, which has literally saved my soul throughout the years. I have true friends of all races who have not required me to compromise on my blackness in order to be accepted as a human being. To all whites who fear those like me, I would suggest to you to examine your consciences to find where that fear comes from, and come to terms with that fear before you meet God.

“When someone asks me about violence, I just find it incredible, because what it means is that the person who’s asking that question has absolutely no idea what black people have gone through, what black people have experienced in this country, since the time the first black person was kidnapped from the shores of Africa.”
And sadly many do not know what the native people of the North American continent have experienced either. I still like the words of the song 'If you can't go on any longer, take the hand held out by your brother, every victory going to bring another - carry it on, carry it on.' We can do it if we take each person by our side with us, no matter the colour of their skin, no matter their age, no matter their physical abilities or inabilities - we do it together. Thank you, Angela.

No prisons? Come on, Angela! That is absurd. Prison reform is absolutely on the table and there are Federal judges who are joining together to look at alternatives to incarceration--judges who do a powerful voices and can make alternative sentencing happen. In fact, I work with one of them and he is doing amazing work. But no prisons is never going to happen - nor should it. But alternative sentencing can and will succeed. I have known of you since my teenage years and applaud your fight but you need to get up to speed!
I would suggest you look to Bryan Stevenson who has done so much and will continue to further advance the conversation regarding justice for the black community and incarceration. Your message, Angela, seems, at this point, stale.
