She is currently a professor in LA I believe. One day while walking down the hall she was accosted by a younger faculty member; They spoke briefly. The conversation having ended, the young teacher walked in the opposite direction from Ms. Davis. As the younger teacher approaches a class doorway, she is met by a much older bespectacled male professor who happened to witness the encounter between she and Ms. Davis. He says to her "Do you know who that is"? She answers with a queer smile, "Yeah, that's Ms Davis." He says, "Yes, that's Ms Davis but do you know her past?" Not waiting for a reply and with a hearty laugh, he jokingly suggests that if she didn't want the FBI eyeing her every move, she should limit her contact with Ms Davis. LOL.LOL

People like Davis have an effect on people's minds and their hearts. That can influence and inspire them to get involved in solving our most urgent problems. But there are powerful forces working in the opposite direction -- preserving the status quo that favors the rich and those who do their bidding (insert you favorite villain politician here). Everyone who works for social justice and environmental causes is on the hit list for intimidation or threats of physical harm. Angela Davis was tried and ACQUITTED of those charges (by an ALL-WHITE JURY YET)! But you keep believing that she's guilty.
Would you believe that if she were WHITE? I don't think so.
You're like those people who still believe that O.J. Simpson was guilty, even though he too was acquitted. Since then, he was constantly harassed and vilified, with people calling him "murderer" right to his face. Then the families of the two victims, his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, sued him for the "damages" he allegedly inflicted on them, even though it was like putting him on trial again after he was already found not guilty, which would have been a violation of the "Double Jeopardy" clause of the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution. Of course, it didn't matter to the people who filed this suit, just so long as they could say "We got O.J. Simpson." Incredibly enough, they actually won. On top of that, Ron Goldman's father, Fred Goldman, has been howling for Simpson's blood for nearly three decades. He even offered the former football player a large amount of money if he would just confess to the murders, but Simpson turned it all down. Maybe he had nothing to confess to.
It's never occurred to anyone that the verdict in the Simpson trial was correct, that the accused was found not guilty because HE WAS NOT GUILTY!
Similarly, it's never occurred to you, Dennis, that Angela Davis was also acquitted because he deserved to be acquitted, that she was innocent of all wrongdoing, or that she was framed for the crimes she was accused of because certain people didn't like her leftist politics, or because she was always vigorously speaking out against racism and against the system that she felt was perpetuating racial injustice, or perhaps even because of the color of her skin.
I consider myself a liberal, but I'll admit that there were times when I felt that Davis went too far with her radical rhetoric, and I wasn't quite comfortable with her being a Communist. But even so, that's no reason for her (or anybody else for that matter) to be punished for a crime she probably never committed. That is NOT justice!

The stated prison objectives of punishment and rehabilitation Can be met Outside of the prison industrial complex. That Does Not Mean setting loose dangerous offenders that threaten public safety.
It Could Mean smaller locked down facilities.
It could mean separating offenders based on their crimes and monitoring them electronically.
There are many ways to do this better.

Or do you like oppressing yourself? You’re joking if you think you can blame your problems on “white” people. No prisons? Come on, Angela! That is absurd. Prison reform is absolutely on the table and there are Federal judges who are joining together to look at alternatives to incarceration--judges who do a powerful voices and can make alternative sentencing happen. In fact, I work with one of them and he is doing amazing work. But no prisons is never going to happen - nor should it. But alternative sentencing can and will succeed. I have known of you since my teenage years and applaud your fight but you need to get up to speed!
I would suggest you look to Bryan Stevenson who has done so much and will continue to further advance the conversation regarding justice for the black community and incarceration. Your message, Angela, seems, at this point, stale.
