You my friend are a lifesaver. Had to epoxy the magnets back on case and it ran in reverse. Man so simple of a fix. Thank you the video was a time saver.
U bought the rebuild kit and put it all back together. Some how 2 of the brushes are power and the other 2 ground to the case so of course its like touching pos ans neg when connected how is that? Am i missing something?
The 2 positive & 2 negative brushes are 180 degrees from each other. Meaning- the positives & negatives are 90 degrees from each other. Having said that, the permanent magnets in the body are also arranged at a 90 degree positive/negative relationship. The position of the body in relation to the position of the brushes is critical for proper operation of the starter. Most starter motors are "keyed" so this isn't usually an issue. On many of the R1's, there is an ink line on the body that aligns with a small cast-in hashmark on the cap. Sometimes the ink like can get warn off.
@@RicksElectrics i bought the kit for my 05 r1 i have the pos and neg brush off set 180 degrees but when i installthe armature contact points there isnt a pos or negative it touches
@@soundsoflife6224 this sin't something I can solve here. You can send the whole assembly & all parts to us and we can make it work for you for a minimal fee. Just be sure to include a note with your name, address, phone number, year/make/model of bike & what your issue is.
My R1 was struggling to start up, so i have removed the starter and i am finding on test that it is spinning. Connected direct to battery. Could it still be faulty? or is a spin sufficient?
spin is not sufficient, so it can still be faulty. When you opened it up, was there a burnt electrical smell? These starters are not positively keyed so hopefully you marked it correctly. If not, we can always put it back together for you correctly if you send it to us.
Hey old video I know but I've been dealing with electrical problems on my bike since I bought it 3 years ago, right now I'm having starting issues I put the battery on a maintainer because it was sitting at 12.05 volts let it sit overnight and now it's only doing like a half crank then completely stops no clicks I can hear a faint whir if I hold the button. I'm thinking my starter brushes are toast again but I had so much trouble getting it out and in I don't want to mess with it again and I don't want to spend 100 dollars on a new battery again only for it to do the same thing in a year. I fuckin hate yamahas dude I knew I should've gotten a cbr.
If it was sitting at 12.05V then the very first thing I would do is have the battery load tested. If the battery is dead then after replacing it make sure it's properly charging and there is no parasitic amperage draw. If you send the starter to us we can check it out.

what kind of clue that we can use to fix the magnets inside of a rotor?
You can try the 3M product: DP460. No guaranty it will work though
