I like being an individual contributor so I can work on work and then do what I want after work. More responsibility for a company that doesn't care about you and can fire you at any time anyway sucks

I am just feeling the same... going from L5 to L6 , but now due to stress taken a sabbatical.

Definitely don't want to be part of this meaningless tech grind for 40 years. Getting to L6+ asap and grinding it out for a few years will allow you to retire after 10-15 years, invest into some passive income and/or find something to work on that's not a rat race in a corporate ladder that's all about pushing revenue at all costs.

Yeah this was my plan. There's nothing broken about promotions, with the anticipation of building enough capital to GTFO the industry way before 40 years (10 years for me).

Joke aside, I don’t consider a promotion a REAL promotion if I don’t get a significant monetary and career gain. I think management knows that I know this because I never got promoted after that. 😂
