He drove a military vehicle into a war zone with his guitar strapped to the outside of the vehicle! This song was written because James’s Dad (who is sat next to him) was seriously ill with kidney disease and needed a transplant. They thought there was no hope, so this song was written and it was recorded in one take. The tears are real, but after they finished Mr Blunt senior turned to his son and said “What are you crying for, I’m still here!” He is still here because of that song, a distant family member heard it and got in touch and became his kidney donor.
