Nice job. Very helpful product review based on practical experience. I agree, plastic pulley's in this type of machine knowing what it is expected to do is a shame. Thanks a lot!
My Dr. Fields brush cutter is 25 years old but only gets used a couple times a year. I just broke a belt on it which is the first repair I have had to do on the machine. The battery died years ago but I just jump it and it runs until I shut it off (original battery). This is by far one heck of a machine.
Wow, you Live in a beautiful place, you gave a nice demonstration of the dr mower but I couldn’t take my eyes off the background scenery. Thanks for sharing both and congrats on owning that lovely peace of Gods green earth. Peace and good health be with you in these difficult times. If I may offer a small bit of advice. Be careful with these mowers and other people or pets being near by, I’ve had mine throw some debris out that would definitely injure. God bless.
Delivered a nice even cut, has the super tight turning ability ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend I was looking for, and is just a blast to drive. It takes a little bit to get used to driving one after driving a normal tractor style, but once you've got it, you've got it. If you're cutting lines, you have to be careful spinning the mower around or the back tire will dig a bare spot. Just take it nice and slow during the turn and then it's back to full throttle across the yard!
I have 25 acres with lots of tall weeds, and some prickly pear. There is mesquite to maneuver around. I'm wondering if this is too small a machine for that size, or if a bigger machine would have too much trouble getting around.
The new DR mowers lack the quality of the previous models. My deck broke within the first couple hours of use. It has broke numerous times since then. Look for an AT3 or AT4 series. I'm totally disappointed with my new mower.
I have a couple of the older ones with the 26" spoked solid tires. One has electric start. They are very tough and no flats. But a cheap tractor with brush hog is better and cheaper than if you buy one of these new, I just have a hundred dollars in both of mine. They have their places in small tight spaces.
I have a 2018 Troy Bilt Bronco good lawn mower there's a couple things that I don't like about it but it's fixable the spindles I can't grease them I had to replace them so I'm going to upgrade my spindles
same on my craftsman lt3000. just going to drill a hole and insert a grease fitting. problem solved. cheaper than new spindles even though those dont cost too much.
fair dinkum review mate but thinking any hillside might be a challenge to manage them. Especially sidehill....so probably best to stick with old school weedeater and clone myself in an attempt to manage the growth.
You did a great job on cleaning up the fence line I'm looking at a used Dr feild and brush mower with a Kawasaki 17 hp engine I believe that the mower deck is the biggest one they make .just the price is right I need it
Alan R there is another one I think it’s called something with the word “goat”. It seems to be more commercial quality but higher in cost. It also seems to be what I’ve seen at rental places so have it would be worth the extra cost. All depends on your budget etc.
Great video thank you. I bought the same model a couple of weeks ago and the blades are permanently engaged. The pulley brake is firm against the pulley but it keeps burning a groove right in the brake. Did you have this issue too?
Deacon my overall thoughts are if this is the only thing you have at your disposal at the moment ( or can have purchase wise ) I would still get it just to get the work done. If however there job isn’t to big - I would look into renting a professional one as this base unit was around $1300 at time of purchase. I more recently tried to use this brush mower again and the cable that control forward and reverse just snapped for no reason. DR should def put higher quality components in these units. What you see in the video I did over the course of maybe a month a half. I lived 30 min away at the time so wasn’t able to go that often. I used this brush mower and a high quality pole saw.
@@RuralVibesVa Thank for the info. I apologize for taking so long to reply back. I did rent a the machine, used it for about a week. 3 things did break on it, I called the Rental Store and asked if I could do a field repair. They said yes. ( I live WAY OUT in the country) I have 2 Brush Hogs that are too large for what I want to do, now I'm looking for a 5' or 6' used Brush Hog to widen the trails some. Thank you again.
Great review! I wouldn’t buy it after watching this. The spark plug wire location is a deal breaker. Especially in the environment it would be used in. Hope DR sees this. Thanks!
In the “after” pictures, did you clean up any debris or is that all the output of the machine going over it several times? If the latter, about how many passes did it take to get that mulch like consistency? Thanks!
The only debris I cleaned out separately are the tree limbs I cut with a pole saw. I then chipped them and used that as the mulch around the trees. As far as the vines at actual brush it was just from the brush mower, and I did have to "groom" it as the vines etc would lay down so I had to work it. If your in more "woody brush" I would think if you took it nice and easy one would would do...? Hope this helps!
I got the same DR and I have the same problems The gas problem is because you put to much gas in dont fill up all the way that stopped my gas from coming out , My shifter is the same way and my pullys broke off to after one day of use cheap made and DR should do better
Thanks for your input. I will try and back off on the gas. I used my brush mower again a few weeks ago and the cable that control forward and reverse just snapped. :| I am going to just fix it and sell it. Too much hassle.
@@RuralVibesVa I live in West Virginia that thing is a beast to handle on hills , I got two gears reverse and third, its crazy over the gas leak a person would figure a gas cap would stop gas from coming out But I dont have that problem any more if I dont fill mine up all the way Good luck with yours
Im thinking of buying a brushcutter after watching this i think im going to buy a old tractor with a bushhog,,no way a walk behind is going to stand up to my 2 acres of vines and saplings brush etc..
Did you contact DR Power about those issues that you found as poor quality, etc? They seem to be top-notch with their customer service, etc! My walk-behind unit got to the shipping depot today, picking it up this week! Oh boy!
My dad never had problems with their customer service. I bought a manual raise driveway grader. I will be calling them on the raising mechanism. I'm not saying it's their fault. Maybe I'm not doing something right. But I'm sure they can talk me through it or send a new part.
I love when all these videos from different people get to big bushes the video skips to the bushes being mowed. You don't get the sense that the work was easy or hard...just dissapears right as you get to big bushes. 4th video by different people that they skip all that.
It's their base model it's nothing to put better pulleys on there to make the machine better there's a reason why it's their base model though they didn't cut corners that's why they were planning to do it
I regret buying this machine. I'm dropping reviews everywhere people might see them as a buyer beware - I wish I could tell any of you how well the mower works - but we received it in August, unboxed and assembled, followed all pre-use instructions, and the drive belt shredded after only several hundred feet of use. Mower won't drive forward without it, so we had to tow it back to the house. Called and spoke with the company, they agreed that there must have been an issue with the belt, but we don't have a nearby DR dealer shop or a winch to load a very heavy machine that won't drive itself forward/up a ramp, so they recommend replacing the belt ourselves. The trouble is, this mower is not user-service friendly. So, after paying 3K$, here we are on the floor of our garage with a brand-new machine, inching our way through each overly complicated step to replace this drive belt, and consequently we don't have a single kind thing to say about this machine. Since we live in WA, we may not get to even try this thing out again until next May when the rains stop.
You could buy 15 of these base model DR brush mowers for the cost of a Ventrac 4500. So J Gonz3 is spot on. Now on the other hand you could probably rent a Ventrac and attachments for a few days and that would likely have been quicker and easier than using the DR unit.
@@mustangdbest220 Well unlimited funds does tend to skew the the equation. But if I understand the video correctly he already has a tractor and a brush hog on it. So this was only really needed to get into tight spaces under trees, on the fence line, etc. As somebody who has spent the last month or so clearing out my own land I know a 5 foot brush hog on the back of a tractor can plow through most things, The trouble is getting a tractor in and around trees that you may want to leave standing, fence lines, etc. Especially if the tractor doesn't have a live PTO and has to be moving to have PTO power. Josh over at the Stoney Ridge Farm is leasing a Ventrac and it seems to be an excellent piece of gear. But I'm really wondering why he needs it when he has all of the tractors and impliments he could need for any farm or yard work. The only thing i'm really lacking for my setup is a finish mower. And the only reason I don't have one of those is because I was gifted a 72" Commercial Scag mower by our neighbor who upgraded a few years ago.
Birds and wildlife have hundreds of acres all around me. There were thickets, poison ivy and trees chocking trees out. Trees need room to thrive. I would rather have 3 solid beautiful trees than a thicket of 50 thin ones that can’t grow to their potential. Thanks for watching.

That property line came out really good. We ended up buying a used Billy Goat Brushcutter from Home Depot.

Your land looks beautiful! Great job! Thanks for sharing your experience 😎
The DR pro models are definitely built way tougher than that but I agree with you that even the base model should use a metal tensioner pulley

How much is a machine like this?
I had a Craftsman trimmer mower they had plastic I do have to agree with one of the guys their base model should have the metal pulleys with bearings
How much is it?

You can buy aftermarket metal pulleys to replace them for nothing
Good job
Was this all cut with the brush cutter or did you have to pull out bigger pieces?
It was all cut with the brush cutter. When I worked the tree line I left some big logs for tractor work. It cut through a lot of thick stuff.
Great video man, thank you!
Hi... This is for sale and how much?pls
Good honest review ,Thank you.
Nice boots
Hey besides the heavy brush how is it at cutting grass?
It does pretty good, about like a brush hog attachment on a tractor.

I have one made in 2012 and it is much beefier than the new ones.

I've tried that as well. Even when there wasn't much fuel left it would still work it's way out somehow.
