@@sirkermitthefirstoffrogeth9622 I have lived in France as well as a few Francophone African countries and I think that generally, especially where French is not the native language of the people they are way easier to communicate with. French speakers struggle with learners accents as well so much more, like the French cannot seem to understand you unless you perfectly pronounce the language the way that they do, but Africans will pretty much get what you are trying to say and you can communicate more fluidly even if you don't have the best language skills. I think a lot has to do with it not being many people's first tongue, as well, they tend to be more comprehensible imo. (which is pretty much most of the Francophone African countries... like they will learn French in school and can speak it, but most people primarily utilize their tribal language besides maybe Ivory Coast, Congo, Gabon and Cameroon I would say the majority of the other countries primarily speak French only if u cannot understand their main language)

I liked this. The Quebec sounded accurate, I lived there for two years. The British/English accent was spot on. Surprised you didn’t do Swiss French. Or a Louisiana French, a proper one handed down the family. I knew someone from a French village in Manitoba, he sounded just like Louisiana, obviously French but more like rural Brittany than Paris, with the trilled r sound.

I was in an French Language School in Nice last summer and my class was made up by about 90% Swiss Germans. Im German myself, but Swiss German is known for beeing the strongest accents of German that is still widely spoken today. It was very funny for me to see that the Swiss Germans had the same kind of pronounciation by speaking french then they have while speaking (swiss) German. I mean, if i think about it its totally logical but before that i never thought about this.

weirdest thing after studying french in college but not really using it: other than unique vocab and expressions, after standard french, most accents are about the same level of intelligible. like even stereotypical parisian french is about as easy to get as the other ones even though ive probably heard it way more than others

I think you should have precised the formality level. Also, some of vocabulary and pronunciation are proper to an age group and might for instance not be used in newers generations. For example, the Parisian French spoken there is more similar to familiar (or even popular to some extent) language as opposed to standard, formal or literature like language. The one for Québec is definitely popular language too (vulgar language was included since he cursed) and on top of that, I'm pretty sure the pronunciation isn't representative at all of the youngest generations and it might sound like a 50-60+ person speaking due to the rolled r and alternated vowel sounds. Younger generations don't change as many vowels and consonants in the words as older people in Québec. On top of that, no matter if younger people are in France or Québec, they might use more internet English words than older people. As a reference for anyone : (The line in between levels of language isn't well defined, some have elements in common.) -Registre soutenu (littérature, poésie, chez certains auteurs, personne ne parle comme ça à l'oral) - Registre formel (par politesse, avec des supérieurs, des patrons, des professeurs, dans des documents et formulaires, similaire ou identique au registre standard en général) - Registre standard (dans des livres éducatifs, à la télévision, dans des documents) - Registre familier (à l'oral, ou en représentation écrite de l'oral dans certains livres de divertissement..., avec des amis, la famille, avec des enfants...
