How could this lovely, happy song get such a poor result? Finland was definitely victimised that year. This should have been in the top 5. Hyvin tehty, Suomi! 🇫🇮🇫🇮🇫🇮

@@TiiroyGXim sorry there was actually typo. They are Finnish Kale. It's a group of romani people and they live in Finland and Sweden. They are one of the few different groups of romani people of the world. I think the biggest group is called Roma, Finnish Kales are a tiny group compared to them.
Nope, THE most undeserved last place. I don't know what possessed the juries, it's such a beautiful song, and so different to the typical ballads and schlager we normally have at Eurovision.
@@rhysepoos The song is nice, but she was a problem. Bad singing, creepy voice and she even made a mistake when she once continued singing after refrain when there should be an instrumental part.
I dont agree on the creepy voice or anything she had a great voice. But there was indeed a small mistake but its not guaranteed if the jury even noticed because they dont understand the lyrics. And she continued the song to the end like a pro. Didnt deserve last place.
What's interesting was that this song almost did not qualify. Finland was tied with Hungary for 22nd place, both with 26 points. At the time, the rule was the country that received the highest number of top votes was placed higher. Greece gave Finland it's highest score of 8 points, while Romania gave Hungary their highest score of 7 points and therefore Finland qualified. Had it been today's rules, Hungary would have qualified as 9 countries voted for the song while only 4 voted for Finland. The whole pre-qualifying round was just a mess as it was either music video or live performances of varying qualities. Honestly, If there was a year to start semi-finals it should have been 1996. They had 30 countries and could have done a semi-final similar to the system used from 2004-2007 where the top 10 countries in 1995 auto-qualified, with the remaining 20 went to the semi-final with the top 13 qualifying to the final. I would have chosen Finland over Hungary. It's a great song, not a winner but much better than some of the other songs that qualified and totally bombed live (*cough* *cough* Spain *cough).
@@JeSuisRene Nope, that guy was serious and pretty much ruined the Latin American boom that happened in the United States in the late 90s that Spain was riding on. Actually, not really as Spain was pretty much hit miss throughout the 90s.
@@tonieskelinen4426 I don't think this one was that embarassing, even though she made a little slip. I'm mostly embarassed about the Finnish performance of 1982.
This song didn't technically come last. That year they had an untelevised preliminary round that six countries where eliminated from, so the country that actually came last that year was Romania
I haven't heard other countries' songs for the 1996 Eurovision, but in my opinion, this doesn't sound like something that would deserve the absolute last place. Sure, I'm Finnish myself so I might be kinda biased, but sometimes I'm in the mood to listen to some more "traditional" stuff exactly like this although I hadn't even been born in the 1900s.

I’m definitely not a fan of Finnish songs in this contest, but this is one of the very few occasions I have to say that Finland was underrated. It wasn’t the best song in 1996, but definitely NOT the worst. I think it’s Finland’s best last placed song.
Extremely undeserved last place, just a bit ahead of its time (it's aged very well) and I think coming right after Ireland in the running order killed it -this couldn't be much more different to The Voice and the contrast was just too stark for the juries.
The only way that ppl outside Finland are gonna know what Finnish sounds like is listening to Eurovision. Except that nowadays they only sing in English. How sad how crap.
I have heard many other Finns disapprove of this song for some reason, but it sounds beautiful to me, especially when I adjust the tempo to 25% faster 😅. Similarly, I like the last Netherlands 🇳🇱 ESC entry that was sung in Dutch “Ik Ben Verliefd (sha-La-Lie)” and many people from Netherlands don’t like that one which sounds traditionally Dutch. So you’re not alone. I DO like it though, sorry!
One of the most underrated songs of the whole Eurovision contest. Yet one of the best ones in my eyes.

For the people wondering why it came last, at 2:25 she sings during the interlude
Maybe it was a stylistic "Mamas and Papas" slip. A Fin I was talking to on hols said this song still gets radio play with it left in.
