Funny you say this. The last speeding ticket I got was listening to Feel Good Hit of the Summer - Queens of the Stone Age and singing "Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, Marijuana, Ecstasy and Alcohol" at the top of my voice. I'd just been DJing in Manchester and whilst completely sober I was absolutely buzzing. I was in a BMW 3 series and this gold BMW 5 series started gaining on me. Figuring they were just playing, I sped up a bit. Turns out it was an unmarked Police car. Last time I listened to Queens of the Stone Age!
The more I listen to it, the more I appreciate the softer, melancholic identity this album has. Lilith is just so good man, it gives me this weird mix of nostalgia and sorrow. This whole album feels like a fucking lucid dream. Truly an underrated gem.
4 years too late, but I was hooked on WLFGRL on loop forever until suddenly this just clicked one day and I've found myself coming back to it time and time again.
Im new to this stuff. Mostly listen to metal. I dont understand why people that like machine girls other albums dont like this one. It sounds wonderful. When im not broke ill be buying the discography from bandcamp. If theres ever physical cds/vinyls ill buy those too. Thank you.
Aye I listen to metal as well. I got into this Wolfgirl and Death Grips so I kinda feel like metalheads are more capable of listening to “weirder” stuff. I feel like its possibly because we pushed boundaries to listen to metal and push them more with this but I guess it depends?
Metalhead here too and I have been listening to Machine Girl for a while now. He's amazing and he knows his shit. U-Void Synthesizer or The Ugly Art are excellent albums that you guys should give a listen. (Sorry for the Bad English)
This album and WLFGRL both talk to me in a deep spiritual level, they're an absolute mishmash of my combined musical tastes, from ever since I was 5 and my mom bought me Kirby Superstar for my SNES, until right now, almost 20 years later of musical voyage through electronic music.
This just showed up on the homepage, so I gave it a listen and I've never heard anything like it (which is maybe saying nothing as my electronic background goes from Residents to Autechre to Aphex Twin and back again to Black Mass Lucifer and Throbbing Gristle); someone described at as a lucid dream, simultaneously nostalgic and sorrowful, and another said it's what the inside of the internet sounds like, and somebody else again: a hammer ("made of") rainbows and glitter (indeed, Aphex Twin must be very proud indeed of his estranged, if spectral children; who wouldn't be?). All are true, and none accurate; evocative is the best I can do, but I really like it. I feel something, I just don't know what.
i've heard that while machine girl was making this album, they were heavily depressed. since i know that fact, this album turned into a whole another experience, it feels kinda melancholic. you fucking rock MG, it's nice to see that you're in a better place now.
That is a pretty weird information to me, because this is one of the most uplifting albums I've ever heard. Kind of heard about the opposite happening too, Leyland Kirby made an album called "Sadly, the future is no longer what it was", which is THE most depressing album I've ever heard. And Leyland says he was in a very happy period of his life when he made that album.
@@elfrangofrito fucking love Leyland Kirby's art. Somehow, that does not surprise me, he reminds me a lot of Junji Ito in that way, making horribly anxiety-inducing or somber pieces while behind it all, he's just genuinely enjoying the information he's basing it on, or just having a fun time making it.
