I met Victor Fritzche in Montreux back in 1987, he was a guest of honor at the Festival of Jazz and we kind of stumbled on one another in a coffee shop. I expressed my admiration for his work on Gato and we had a nice chat about it. He recalled the days spent working with David in a stuffy Sheffield studio and how seamless the recording process went for most of the album. According to him, the synth progression for Werewolf with Pants was massively inspired by the popping exhaust of a Triumph automobile that was passing by their avenue during lunch. David got obsessed with the weird cadence of it and spent a solid hour riffing until it became the synth bass line. He said it's the one thing he remembers the most about working on that album, and he gets a kick out of telling people about it every time.
Also, fun fact, he always subconsciously snaps his croissants in half. I asked him about it and he said he doesn't think about it, he just does it to make sure the croissant's not rotten like David's was way back then. We had a good laugh about that.

I showed this album to my parents and talked about the backstory in the description. They were nodding along and my mom correctly predicted the style was something from the late seventies. They completely believed it, and I don't blame them. It's extremely authentic to the point where you can just.. let yourself believe. Such a great piece of music. Ughhhh I can't believe how good and interesting this album is.
    It grew on me HARD.
This album is hard to skip through because the composition is so dang interesting and layered all over.
    - I used to skip Sea Bus but I keep thinking about 2:26 in context of the rest of the song and it's so damn good.
    - If I had this on vinyl, it's possible the grooves containing Werewolf With Pants would be unreadable today.
    - The motif at the end of Gato is so good... nanana-naaa-naaa-naaaaaaaa
    - Soft Rain starting with a muted melodic motif it keeps throught while adding rhythm in crescendo... This one feels like it desperately wants lyrics
    - This is the first time I've heard an album ending that both feels climactic while not exhausting the listener.
Incredibly easy to listen to, the music equivalent of popcorn I suppose.

I can't believe I've been listening to this music for months (maybe even a year!) and all this time I believed there really was a brazilian composer called David Wojciechowski in the 70's who was also a furry. I was so happy too, I even told my friends and family. Sure it's an unusual name for a brazilian, but our country is so diverse, and some of the music really have that bossa nova swing that was popular in the 60's and 70's, so I didn't question it too much. Either way, love the music, the art, and the fact the you gave these characters such detailed backgrounds. Great job overall!

Gato is a nice interpretation from the old classic "Mon Amour" by Alan Hawkshaw and Brian Bennett back in 1974. 😻

One thing that makes me sad about loving older music is that all of it has already been made and there won't be more.... Unless folks travel from the past and release some today! :)) the old synths and everthin, they got it down really well.

holy shit this is good. The only way i can describe it is that it sounds like chill jazz from space. It makes me want to shout "I've got a rotten croissant!" in a London cafe.
