I bet the staff in the dealership was looking out the window when you took the engine cover off and said "here we go Simon will be getting out his orange pen in a minute" 🤣. Awesome car guys 👍
If only you guys knew how true this is..... when the stig was in the dealers last year ( wade sensors failed ) the dashcam recorded some stuff ( they connected the battery charger and this started it recording ) you would not believe what the tech's did ! one thing they did was take the p155 out of the orange pen ! Congratulations Simon. Just on the rear seat, the bottom part of the rear seats pops out very easily so you can drop the back seats flat. The bottom part actually fits very well behind the front seats. The aluminium step is still there obviously but at least the seats will be flat
@powerfulukltd great timing!! wondering how to get rid of these seats, and add drawers, shelves etc etc in boot looking forward to your videos on this thx
Hi Simon, That funnel in the boot is not for your add Blue. Its to fill you fuel tank up from a fuel can which have a narrow nozzel. The diesel filler is very clever won't allow you to miss fuel with petrol Try it.
Locking fuel flap on my Volvo does not lock straight away to allow time to lock car at fuel station and open the filler flap, it locks after a short delay normally, yours may be the same.

The white plastic funnel thing is for filling diesel from a can or, more importantly, from commercial filler nozzles that are too big to fit in the idiot-proof system fitted that stops the driver from filling with petrol accidentally. Up until I had my new fuel stations [bunded storage with pump and flowmeter] I used the plastic funnel always on my capless Honda and Ford vehicle fillers. The new fuel nozzle fits so no longer a regular need for the funnel.
The idiot proofing does not stop someone putting petrol pump in as they are narrower than diesel one. Commercial pumps should not be used on cars as the fuel flows at a higher rate and the plastic filler pipe may split. Same as adblue, never use a pump. Just buy a 10 litre container and don’t add it until the car asks for it. Otherwise the car might not recognise that adblue has been added. Peugeot state this in owner manual and the folk that don’t follow this guidance find their car prevents them starting it because the car thinks the tank level is too low. The minimum top up for Pug 3008/5008 is 10. litres and one lasts me a full year.
@@stevenmoran4060 I buy DERV [white diesel] in fairly large quantities to be stored and dispensed at my yard. I buy Adblue in 20 litre drums as I only have one vehicle that requires it and that consumes just one millilitre [cc] per mile driven.
FYI. In Sept 2019 I bought a 110 S Defender. At that time LR was already concerned about new Defenders being re-sold overseas for big money. Their policy (LR Canada) stipulated that a $10K "bond" was held in trust for one year. After 365 days, I took a photo of the car and a newspaper indicating the date. The bond was refunded back.

Simon, the locking fuel cap problem it seems is caused by the changing of the Body Control Module, even Range rovers don’t have it. Vulkan have developed an add on module but this is not an easy fit and is expensive. Hope you can find a cheaper way. Also as someone has already said there is a shortage of USB C ports and these should be retrofitted by dealer at a later date . Enjoy your car, your lucky as well to get 2 Keys, a lot of us have still only got 1 and LR don’t seem to be in a hurry to provide the other
Yes the dealer said 2 keys was a lucky thing ! I have been looking at the locking thing - there is a device called a "H Bridge" which is what i am looking at. I did see the Vulcan one but its the price of a couple of tanks of fuel. I will see if my car has the locking mechanism fitted and then see if turning on the feature in the CCF makes any difference. I did wonder if it was a legislative thing - as there is no manual release over ride provided ?
Use the seat memory feature to get your seat back to suit whichever driver. Is there a passenger seat memory feature? If so, its the passenger seat that is usually used for getting passengers into the back.
I really wish there was a non commercial two seater option with a flat rear. The perfect option for a couple with dogs. I’m excited to see what you do. It actually stopped us buying one recently :-/
Is there anything on the passenger side to drop the chair down to gain access into the back? A lot of three door cars encourage getting in from the passenger side, my Jimnys had a quick release to get in which enabled the chair to be dropped and slide forwards and also a small foot pedal under the seat for the rear passenger to press to allow them to get out.
@@L663 I am not surprised the Jimny and Landrover enthusiasts have a mutual respect for each other and the Jimny has a cult following just as big as LR. The Jimny has all the characteristics of the early short wheel base 88" Landrover but modernised, the new Jimny GEN4 nailed it with the boxy utilitarian appearance, simplicity and honesty which is missing from most modern 4x4s.

My heart loves it but my head says, not having any electric only mode, is this is the right type of vehicle to be spending that sum of money on in 2022/23? 🤔
I 100% agree and was not planning on buy this car - the next car was planned to be a Rivien or similar. But the plan is I can drive it for 3-6 Months and sell it back to the dealer.... for about the same price... so it seems a good deal but risky
Looking good. I can't get over you getting 2 keys with it. Look forward to seeing you make improvements especially the locking fuel filler flap. Please also include Discovery 5 owners with this issue as my MY23 disco does not lock.👍
I would love a commercial but hate that enclosed bulkhead that isolates the rear from the front.. My dog needs to see where I’m driving… Any ideas for removal..and retrofit windows into a commercial? Thanks..great video as always Will you have the 90 at the British Land Rover show this coming Sunday at Stafford?
Hello Simon, let's hope you have better luck with this one than you had with the other one. All those problems you had. One question, is this George's new 4x4? All the best.
Yes lets hope things go a little smoother than the stig - at least we made it home without a warning light ! George is learning to drive in the Jimny and that will be his first car.
@@sally5371 so far someone was able to design a platform of about 5’10”, but as the front seats slant forward, the higher the platform the longer the bed can be. Hoping these guys can work their magic, maybe even make something 6 feet on the passenger side and shorter on the drivers side so the drivers seat can stay in it’s position. Or a folding solution so two people can ride in the car then the seats pushed up and bed folded down when needed.
Down at our local dealer we measured up what’s possible. My husband is 6’ 1” and with the front seats slid and tilted forwards and the base approx height of arm rest I reckon we could do it for a two or three night camp. Sliding drawers beneath the bed would add functionality. I just like the idea to see if it is possible If you don’t need the scale of the 110.
Congratulations Simon. I picked up a D300 110 x yesterday, also a cancelled order. No doubt a lovely car to drive and in isolation it has some great details but as much as I want to come to like the overall design it remains a solid miss for me. It just does not work as a whole. Perhaps the facelift will sharpen the look up particularly at the front where its just to bland and smoothed off.

Very interesting to hear how you got the car….I now wonder if my 13 year loyalty might work in my favour as well! I have only read of 12/18 month delivery times but I can’t wait that long….I got only two change of clothes! (jimmy Durante in about 1958!). Have you got the fancy Matrix lights?….and the Head Up display will become second nature in a few miles…you might think it is a distraction at first but soon it will be indispensable. Try not to take it apart quite as much as poor old Stig….but you have spotted a few upgrades to be made. Well done and happy 90 motoring!!😀😀😀😀😀Richard
My dashboard changes to red when I alter the adaptive dynamics setting to “open road” and alters the gearbox changes to be quicker with a slightly faster throttle response. I cannot understand why it was an option that virtually nobody ever took as it transforms the car compared to the standard setup.🙂🙂🙂🙂
Dose the fuel cap not lock after a period of time I know it’s not the same car but on my volvo xc90 it locks after 12 minutes something to do with paying for fuel first so you are not having to open and close the car ?
No. All (most?) LRs since April haven’t had a locking filler cap. It’s to save on chips. LR dealers have been told to tell customers to go forth if they complain. My V8 does have all the hardware installed, so it’s just the BCM that can’t tell it to lock.
Hey Simon, thanks for your videos!! I am a frequent purchaser of your material. I did have a total random question for you, just wondering does Tyler like the overall aesthetic of the newer Defender?? I recall in an old video him joking about the old styling being preferred over the new one.
Both George and Tyler were initially hesitant about the new design but now everyone at work loves the new Defenders.... but they had to earn respect by being good off road and reliable etc.... so far they are really impressive.... OK there are some niggles but the new Defenders are awesome.
Congrats! It's fantastic! A few things I don't like though. Maybe you can consider changing them? After all, its what you do right? :) Firstly, the glossy black. If it's the standard piano black material LR uses, it's going to scratch so bad, so quickly! So around the wheels and sides and mirrors, it will be a problem. On the bonnet it looks good though... 20 inch tyres ... Well not as good for offroading, but on the other hand, there are much more tyre options available compared to the 19s. A nice set of BFG's KO 3's (when they launch soon) will look epic! Man ...the recovery loops at the back look badass :) Spare wheel cover at the back is a must. Sun will make little cracks very quickly in that back tyre which could cause a blow out... Overall, I look forward to this journey with you...
I went for a 110 because of the very poor rear boot area - seat does not fold flat, and the ridge when the rear seats are folded down make the rear almost unusable. Most disappointing design, as the 90 would have been more suited to my lifestyle than the 110. I believe I am not alone in that opinion!! I have dogs, and a dog cage will not fit because of that. Otherwise, a great vehicle.
Bet Land Rover are panicking hearing you say you've bought it for RnD!!! All those beautiful panels inside striped out and screw painted Orange!!!! 🤣🤣 Looks fantastic though Simon, did you choose that registration number or that pure coincidence? I'm assuming it SJ1.... rather than SJI...???
Hi Richard - maybe not too much orange pen on this one - plan is to sell it back to the dealer in a few months. The number is an Norther Ireland Number - It is SJI 663 - its my initials and then sort of L663 which is the model number for the Defender.

I really wish there was a non commercial two seater option with a flat rear. The perfect option for a couple with dogs. I’m excited to see what you do. It actually stopped us buying one recently :-/
Yes totally agree
Rear folds flat, just need to pop out the rear bench cushion which snaps right off and can be stored right behind the front seats.
@@Rambler_13 Ah they may do on the lesser models without heated seats.... I am doing a video on this now !
Been working on this all weekend !
@@L663 I’m so excited to see. So are my Golden Retrievers lol
Incredible spec Simon. Lucky you! Develop your own fridge ;-)🎉🎉
Welcome to Team Eiger, Simon.
Just wondering if checking fault codes is part of the inspection prior to handing over a new car to a customer?
£300 option, to cancel warning lights.
'Lets have a look at my new rear end'
nicely said
There is always an innuendo in the video somewhere !
I think it just needs 2 more doors on it, and then it would be perfect.
They always said i was 2 doors short of a 5 door !
I'm a bit jealous! :D I love the 90, and that grey is superb!
Alas no - I did a TikTok comparing the Jimny to the Defender and it has 3.6M views in a week !
Range Rover Classic Seat Slider was Brilliant !!!!!!!
so was the Sliding rear side windows combined with the Massive front windows was literally Mind Blowing when cruising down the South of France for example !!!! But there is no Sliding Rear Window in the 90 !!!.
Dunno bout good resale values !!!!!!!!!- S1 Def is stood for months waiting for a punter
Good luck with the engine!
Thanks for showing us around your new 90 Simon. I love the look of the car and I am a Land Rover / Range Rover owner and I am just drawn to them like you obviously are (people seem to either love of hate them I know). The X is, as you said, the top spec model but It does cost an eye watering amount to buy.
Very interesting - yes the dealer did tell me i was lucky to have 2 keys
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE a proper video on the tow assist if you have it ❤
Very interested in the IID tool. Can it be programmed eg to adjust the air suspension system?
I am testing this in Beta now and yes it can do the suspension and CCF files ! Just got access to the Beta trial last week !
Please tell me it will be possible to set the access height lower so my elderly parents can get in easily
Try a Jeep Rubicon !!!!
Diff locks both Axles and Electrically operated Sway bar Disconnect !!!!!!
Proper Chassis and proper axles with real flex
I would love a commercial but hate that enclosed bulkhead that isolates the rear from the front..
My dog needs to see where I’m driving…
Any ideas for removal..and retrofit windows into a commercial?
Thanks..great video as always
Will you have the 90 at the British Land Rover show this coming Sunday at Stafford?
Hi - its tempting to bring it up - or do people want to see the stig ?
Let me see what the plans are for the weekend..
Is the silly electric towbar adjustable for height and can a jaw or NATO hitch be fitted.
Nice no . Plate
Yes its a Northern Irish plate but legal on all roads in the UK - my initial and then L663 ( the car model ! ) I have a lot of plates !
Best of luck... youll need it.
I will need 3 a day !
Simon, can you please see if it’s possible to create a bed base in the back of the 90 for a bit of stealth camping.
Lol I asked him the same, think he’s focusing on storage first but fingers crossed
Did you look in the back of a 90 😂
Be great for camping if your 4ft tall
Front seats full forward and a bed base about 6” off the floor I reckon you’d get a 6’ person in there.
Stupenda bellissima anche il gancio traino bello 👍
I ve built a small platform with drawer to level the space at the back.
I think I need to do this too - can you send me some pics ?
@@L663 yea, I wanted to attach a photo in my comment but do not know how to attach file in youtube comment.
Congratulations!
this man has a lot of energy
I was excited... alas not much money left now !
Congratulations Simon. I picked up a D300 110 x yesterday, also a cancelled order.
Only problem I have is that there are only two usb/lightening sockets for the 2nd row seats and no cigarette lighter sockets.
Do you know if the wiring harness will be there as I need at least one for a VHF radio I have.
I spend yesterday stripping down the stig to find this out - coming soon !
@@L663 thank you
@@L663 thank you looking forward to that.
@@L663 Simon not sure if I am too late but found out the wiring harness and centre console are the same part numbers on both versions.
@@OverlandingwithBruce I looked and the part numbers are not the same for the wiring loom - I am close to do this now - it seems that i can use some parts from the Disco Sport rear console loom.
I thought the grill was blue at first (not realising it was a reflection until you got near ) and thought it looked trick! What an idiot I am.
Those smaller windows are Alpine Lights, not Safari Windows 👍
Beautiful car guys!
No doubt a lovely car to drive and in isolation it has some great details but as much as I want to come to like the overall design it remains a solid miss for me. It just does not work as a whole.
Perhaps the facelift will sharpen the look up particularly at the front where its just to bland and smoothed off.
Yes the 90 has some drawback especially around interior use of space.
Don’t matter how unreliable they are , if you love them you will always love them.
Bit like the wife really !
Dear Simon :) I am one step to the buying my Land Rover D300 X 110. Worst thing that is happening to me is that everyone is droping "poop storm" about LR reliability. IS THAT RIGHT? OR THEY ARE JUST POOR :D
Hi Simon!
Thanks to many great videos.
Do you have a plan to retrofit the fridge storage box at the centre console with genuine part LR130717?
Hi - I have got a lot of requests for this one !
Great looking car, how long until the first error message, no locking fuel flap or cap is bad in 2022
First error message shown in the video !
@@L663 yeah, thought that when I seen it later. I know new cars have teething problems, my nephew is having a new Range Rover sport in December, changing from an X5, will be interesting how it compares
Splendid - love it 😍
it doesn't say what software you're on because they forgot to turn on the mobile data in connectivity settings. Also 'Live' apps missing which should install once it's online
Doesn’t the diesel have an anti syphoning device in the filler neck and the little white funnel in the boot designed to open it if you have to fill from a Jerry can?
I need to test that !
Bit disappointing to see cloth trim on a car of that value.
Very interesting to hear how you got the car….I now wonder if my 13 year loyalty might work in my favour as well! I have only read of 12/18 month delivery times but I can’t wait that long….I got only two change of clothes! (jimmy Durante in about 1958!). I have seen plenty of 90’s but wished they were “95’s” as to me the 90 looks just slightly too short BUT I really like yours and so pleased you got the X version…it’s the only one to have of course!!
Hi Richard - from phone call to collection was 2 weeks ! Been playing with the HUD and it is good - I like the rev counter in sport mode !
@@L663 That is impressive…it must have been a very late cancellation! 😀😀😀
Do fridges and a video. I would like one . 👍 The D300 is quick I love my one.
The D300 is indeed quick and smooth and it sounds nice too ! I am not sure if the feeling of speed is the D300 V P300 of the 90 v 110 ?
0-60 in 7 seconds! Not bad for a big old boat . It’s no sports car but in my opinion it is pretty quick. Everything taken into consideration.
Would love that 90
Not sure why anyone would consider buying a Grenadier when you could have a new Defender....just beautiful...wish I could afford one on my pension!!!
Have they actually made any Grenadiers yet ? I feel its just too old ... just seems like an odd mix of nostalgia and old tech.
@ Simon, a call with my local dealer yesterday confirms delivery for a demo is now January. Might go later than that.
My V8 does have all the hardware installed, so it’s just the BCM that can’t tell it to lock.
fantastičan auto
2 points.
A. The steering wheel is on the wrong side and
B. When are you Road Trip Testing it down to us in France for a cuppa?
I may be heading to France next week to do some more work on the Classic but i that is just Normandy !
Very nice indeed
Please share what you did to the rear seat
All will become clear very soon.... we have a quality issue with the rear seat mount we are trying to resolve with Land Rover at the moment
@@L663 ok thanks looking forward to the conclusion
Hey Simon, thanks for your videos!! I am a frequent purchaser of your material. I did have a total random question for you, just wondering does Tyler like the overall aesthetic of the newer Defender?? I recall in an old video him joking about the old styling being preferred over the new one.
Both George and Tyler were initially hesitant about the new design but now everyone at work loves the new Defenders.... but they had to earn respect by being good off road and reliable etc.... so far they are really impressive.... OK there are some niggles but the new Defenders are awesome.
Hope you have put a deposit down for the Grenadier!!!
Very poor rear load space compared with my swb shogun ,why do they not have fold up seats that leave a flat rear load space
Congrats! It's fantastic! A few things I don't like though. Maybe you can consider changing them? After all, its what you do right? :)
Firstly, the glossy black.
Man ...the recovery loops at the back look badass :)
Spare wheel cover at the back is a must. Sun will make little cracks very quickly in that back tyre which could cause a blow out...
Overall, I look forward to this journey with you...
spare wheel covers dont look good imo and if you have a garage then sun isnt too much an issue.. especially in England haha
@@livinagoodlife one thing is for sure though, it HAS to be on straight! :)
Great wheel choice! ;-)👌
Hi Simon do you have available shovel holders that fit defender land rover roof rack cheers Garry
We are just refining the design - contact us via the website and I will send you a set for free to test !... its nearly Christmas
I 100% agree with you - and the electric seats make getting in the rear a joke - I did a TikTok on this and it has 3.4 Million views !
Are you going to get an Ineos Grenadier Simon?
No plans - If Ineos want to lend me one to test that would be fine !
It’s lovely Simon 🚙🚗🚘👍👍👍👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
wow very nice
Bet Land Rover are panicking hearing you say you've bought it for RnD!!! All those beautiful panels inside striped out and screw painted Orange!!!! 🤣🤣
Looks fantastic though Simon, did you choose that registration number or that pure coincidence? I'm assuming it SJ1.... rather than SJI...???
Hi Richard - maybe not too much orange pen on this one - plan is to sell it back to the dealer in a few months.
The number is an Norther Ireland Number - It is SJI 663 - its my initials and then sort of L663 which is the model number for the Defender.
@@L663 glad you explained the 663
