      His wife wasn't probably putting out at home and he thought he can probably get some from a hot 23 year old who he was counseling. He should have been smarter, but I know the way how the media works these days is they tend to over-exaggerate men's actions and call them predatory. Leave the poor guy alone.

      @@aljones390why do we have a sex offender apologists here on a comment about someone's win of the week/rainbow baby?
      Also, considering that 38 people have had claims of sexual assault or harassment *substantiated* against five different leaders in this church... This wasn't just an affair or else it would have been labeled as such by the investigators and the church and someone besides just the abuser. Why don't you leave those of us who are victims of SA or allies of victims alone to get some use out of the free speech allowed via the US constitution to discuss this issue?
      If you don't like it you can not watch the video. You're not coming across as anything good here, making excuses for an abuser. We ALL hope this guy actually repents and never harms someone again, living in peace and humility for the rest of his life. That doesn't mean we have to be silent.

      @BHaney  10 месяцев назад +7

      Absolutely! I am such a proponent of extravagant grace, but especially in a situation like this, any path forward without full ownership of what he did cannot lead to a pure or honest desire for restoration. Instead it looks more like a desire to cover things up in order to salvage what he can in terms of his social standing and reputation.
      And thank you 💛

    • @dahliacheung6020
      @dahliacheung6020 3 месяца назад

      @@stuartnicholl7344
      Honestly, I think he should be accepting the legal realities and submitting himself to whatever punishment the courts deem him worth of facing as that would be a part of proper repenting. When your sin is not just against God but also against a specific person, a silent confession of that sin is not enough, especially when paired with downplaying or denying (ie lying) that sin out loud.
      When you commit a sin that is also a crime, true repentence might also mean going to jail but he should be a lot less worried about going to jail than facing judgment before the lord.
      As the above commenter says, I too believe in grace and that the blood of Jesus is great enough to cover all sin. Whatever this man has done, if he repents he will find that he is met with forgiveness that surpassed understanding. I want that for him so much more than I want for him to go to prison.

    I have to admit, in this case I am shocked. I had not thought about or heard about Cavey in several years, so this is all new to me. But I remember reading his first book about a decade ago, and I watched a couple of his sermons on youtube at some point. I wasn't entirely sold on his type of Christianity, but there was a lot about it that I found attractive -- it was in the style of what I guess you could call progressive anabaptists, emphasizing countercultural discipleship, opposing militarism, advocating nonviolence, etc. The theology reminded me of John Howard Yoder, the most important Mennonite theologian in my lifetime. But then, Yoder was also revealed to be a sexual predator. Maybe I should have known.
    As you described Cavey's current activities I was reminded of someone quite different: a former Catholic priest I knew in the 90s. I met him shortly after he got out of jail. He always said he had been convicted of drunk driving, and that might have been true. He was extremely friendly and gregarious, the kind of guy you instantly want to get to know. And he knew how to talk about the faith in a really compelling and fascinating way. He started a well-known Catholic website in about 1993, when that kind of thing was very new. But he could not work, and he relied on money from friends to get by. We rented rooms in the same house -- I was living on minimum wage at the time. After getting to know him for a few months, I realized had been very wrong about him. He was literally the most manipulative person I ever met, and he required constant affirmation. He could become extremely vicious if he didn't get the praise and cooperation he demanded. A few years after that, he was publicly named by the bishop in a list of priests who had been credibly accused of sexual contact with minors. But he never explained or apologized.
    Cavey seems very similar in that neither of these men seems capable of considering that they should step of the public eye after being disgraced. They have what looks like real chutzpah, and they convince a lot of people to support them. But I suspect what they are really displaying is their own narcissism. If that's true, then Cavey is probably a genuinely dangerous man who will continue to hurt people until he's stopped.

    The origin (2nd century) is probably from Hindu spiritualism in India and is about the path to enlightenment, so although not a great analogy to mental health progress of a surface level there's something to it.
    Thanks for making me look it up as i had some information but had misplaced the origin geographically.

I agreed semi-reluctantly. That evening with all the meeting housers there, it all just seemed weird to me. And very very strange. Especially that crazy Manifesto...who does that for church? Communists write Manifesto's... So by then, I was very worried for my son's involvement. I knew I didn't want to go there as I was a 20 year KRT church goer. Needless to say, we went to the Meeting House. My husband and I, as well as my son and his girlfriend. Bruxy looked to me like a hippie. As we attended and several months flew by our lives were really getting "radicalized" by the hippie hipstir Bruxy. 3-5 months into that church and I told one of the ladies I shared with that I felt that this mennonite brethren Meeting House church was a cult. I actually continued out of fear for what my son was getting into...not to mention how it was impacting on me and my husband, other son and grand children. Unfortunately, I got pulled into this radical web of church deceipt just by attending and from the bible studies. We saw sermons that I have never ever seen done in a church in my entire life. All under the guise of... "We are a church for people that are not into church 🤔 ok. We are not a church thats into religion...no... we are a non-religious church. That's right!...non-religious alright! More like he was into "Sex baby... lets talk about you and me"... Which was the title of one of his SERIES of six sermons. Did I say six?...I meant to say... SERIES of six sermons on SEX. Believe me he was FAR too tuned in and turned onto that series. No holding back that Sunday morning back in probably 2007?...likely because of his next session in the counselling office after the service with a young female counsellee that he would have his next affair with. How many girls/young women was that by then 5-6 and counting? Are we sure he wasn't an Mormon FLDS'er? He sure acted like one.
    Then we "meet" none other than, Craig Douglas!... Who did a bible study with his live-in girlfriend. Craig flirted outrageously with me right in front of my husband!! and his girlfriend!! Bruxy did this too but in a more sly covert way! Both of them were Wolves in sheeps clothing! But thanks to a few years behind me and being wiser than I looked... I was onto them...yet I still felt too uncomfortable to "blow the whistle on the teaching pastor" and his cohort the "bible study leader Craig" on their overt/covert flirting. I wish I could have caught them in the "act" like Jesus did with the adulterous woman. Then I would have had the proof I needed. I knew something was going on with them. If Jesus had of caught them in the act back then, he would have told them to go and sin NO MORE! And take your stupid Manifesto with you! Believe me... I knew all I had to do was give them one tiny little sign of interest and they would have been after me like a bee after honey. Thank God, I had those "boys" pegged all along. I knew they were sex addicts! It was obvious to me. But without proof you can't accuse them on flirting alone. And they knew that. But it is a red flag for ministers to flirt. A group of attendees we associated with at times at the meeting house for dinners or coffees and occasional winery tours were also trying to set me up while attending there by 2010-2011 time frame. Because if my husbands gambling. And I was married!!!...they were trying to set me up with another married man in the church who's wife left him for 4 years to do a teaching contract in the middle east because he had brought a 20 year old female to a bible study. Imagine! The nerve! I never let onto to any of them that I was onto their schemes. But I was. And of course no set up was allowed by me! I was only there for our son and to get whatever good I could, get out of the messages while I was there. Honestly this church basically ruined my 40 year marriage. Even though my husband had a gambling addiction. He did get treatment for it but it wasn't working too well for him and he was still gambling, which caused me and the family harm no doubt.
    BUT I AM HAPPY to say that my son and his wife and the grandchildren are safely out of the reach of any more harm from that deceiving church. I left back in August 2021 returning to KRT. And my son and his wife left in the spring of last year 2023 but have not found a church to attend yet nor are they looking. They are very leery of church now. BUT Finally we are all free from the cult of Timothy Bruce aka Bruxy! It took 16-18 years to get free from that nightmare of a sex cult church! The truth.

    A recurring theme here is you suggesting he should own what he did. Agreed. However, with a trial pending he can’t publicly admit anything. Once a verdict is reached, it will be interesting to see what he says, if anything. I don’t want to speculate much obviously because many details are unavailable to the general public.
    I should provide a disclaimer that I went to that church and knew Bruxy in his early days of preaching. Though we remain in touch on social media, I haven’t spoken to him at length since before the alleged incidents or the charges. I was shocked and saddened by the allegations, especially since I know his wife as well. That said, I’m confident the courts will get it right and whatever the outcome, justice will be served.

    He really should not be allowed to have a leadership role within spiritual community.
    I bet you his online community is more isolating and more condusive to sexual inappropriatness. There are so many conservative Christians who are all about victim blaming that his online and inperson meetings with be rife with inappropriate relationships. Also zero accountabilty, standards or oversite online 😅
    And finally, there is an update! I hope you do a new video

    Hey b, I really enjoy your videos even though I have deconstructed and deconverted away from religion and faith. I live in southern Ontario and have met bruxy many years ago through family members of mine who are involved in churches in this area. Genuine question for you, and of course don’t answer if it is too personal. I was curious especially after your last statement in this video of how it makes you feel seeing another SA case come up against another pastor. I am wondering if seeing leader after leader abuse their power and harm people if it ever makes you question the religion and church as a whole. I only ask because at this point of where I am at in my healing journey away from the church I often wonder if they do more harm than good. Any Christian I have ever asked this too only ever seems to say well that’s not what god intended the church to be. Or that there’s just a few bad apples but not every church is like that *eye roll to “a few”*
    I know my view is biased from the hurt I experienced with my former church that I was heavily involved in. So I am just curious your thoughts on that. Thanks and again great videos!

      I totally understand your perspective. I’m an ex-evangelical, and while I still believe Jesus is God and that there’s a Holy Spirit, I don’t go to a congregation anymore, nor label myself “Christian” anymore. To me, that word is soiled by so much violence, abuse, manipulation, and exploitation - but more important in my view, it’s soiled by hypocrisy, corruption, prejudice, and victim-blaming in response to those other harms. Church-goers can’t claim that abusive leaders are just a few “bad apples.” Those bad apples are never properly tossed out, so the whole barrel of the religion has been rotted. In my view, “God” and “religion” are not the same thing, and in my experience MOST “churches” are just money-making, victim-luring schemes run by people Jesus doesn’t know. But that’s just my view.

    Some journeys need to be taken alone. God still walks and talks to people who don't hold a mic. In my opinion it is disrespectful to God to find so much self-importance in yourself that you continue to entangle yourself in God's word while harming people.

    Random question 🙃
    And I will take it as opinion, not gospel, lol...I just really an just curious as to the opinion of someone I do genuinely respect and tend to align in beliefs with.
    What are your thoughts on mego churches so big, where the Pastor is rarely seen interacting with the congregation, but, instead anywhere they go, they are surrounded by a team of body guards and noone can so much as interact with them?
    I remember growing up where our preacher knew everybody and was more that happy to talk to them.
    I get Mego Churches are very different, but something about it just feels off I guess. Maybe it's just me...I live in the DFW area.

    Sorry - his 'Jesus centred therapy' involves meeting small house churches? Is that even licenced therapy? It sounds like the 'Biblical counselling' that isn't counselling and not from licenced therapists.
    As for 'I am not doing this as a pastor' - sorry it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, he is setting up small group based church, and he will be the one blogging and guiding the groups, so what else is he?

    You certainly have a winsome style and personality. But educated listeners surely lose interest hearing what "pisses you off". Dogmatic stances from someone so inexperienced and uninformed don't come across well. It seems that you have lots of followers who would disagree. I would be interested hearing more about the Taylor Swift concert you attended and how you were inspired to dress like her. Probably you actually know what you are talking about on this subject.

    It was an extramarital affair with another married woman who was an adult and also a pastor as well. They both royally screwed up period and deserved to be fired. Also anyone can write whatever they want on the Internet, people can simply choose to not visit his site to express their disapproval of it. He is also in actual, real counseling as well. The degree of ridiculous assumptions you are making is mind boggling. Your video was completely misinformed.

    I know I may have missed it if you did explain, but do we know for a fact that the allegations for which he's been legally charged are from his SA of Hagar? I don't recall anything you read from his site that would necessarily link them. As I listened, I'd imagined that the charges were for something he had done after he left the church. A side note: if I were his wife, I'd take serious offense at the victim's use of Hagar. Unless, of course, this whole sinfulness was planned, suggested, and urged by the wife herself.

    Sadly, after listening to your video, I see that there is a lack of understanding and maturity as to how repentance, restitution, and restoration work in our faith. Yes, there is a terrible issue with positions of power, that permiate in many parts of our culture, but if we decide all situations using only that broad stroke, we miss so many nuances in every dynamic relationship, and how each person reads another's words/actions/intentions (he dresses a little "sharper" to work the next day after overhearing a conversation about the awe factor of sharp dressed men, or she wears a more vibrant makeup shade the day after he mentions liking bright colors the day prior - so much can be miss-interpreted).
    I think of Paul in the New Testament talking about how he treats himself and considers himself to be basically the champion or chief of sinners. We do not know exactly what Paul considered to be so bad in his life, but as all are offered forgiveness and grace freely, if we paralleled that to what you are saying, would we not state that Paul probably should not have been allowed to preach the gospel after he admitted that? Do we certainly know if there may have been some habitual sin in Paul's life? We'd probably not have half the new testament if we thought in this manner.
    I am not defending Bruxie's actions. And he is not Paul. What I am saying is who am I, who, anyone, can decide when a person has truly repented, has tried to make restitution and who eventually is the judge who restores every "sinner", and when? I believe the higher court is God's. What the laws of the land are, fall far below God's rule, but they are there, because God has allowed this societal design. And we should act within those guidelines unless they contradict God's (love) law. Who is not to say that Bruxy has repeatedly asked God to help him stop his wrong-doing (whatever that may have been), but he potentially repeatedly tripped up. Seems pretty human to me. Humbly I admit I've had to revisit and make right wrong doing on my part years later, because my sin has been slowly eating at me... That sounds like the scripture which states "I fail to do what I should and keep doing what I should not”. Your statement, "you felt what he is now doing feels wrong in your spirit" makes no sense or maybe you mean you are 100% certain you know along with God, when he's free under God's grace. Then you should not go to the site. If his site had only the words "God is love" (which is absolute truth) , would that be okay? Who is to judge if what is on any site is right or wrong, truth or experience or insight? The bible says test (question) all things. If there is teaching that is wrong, it will not stand. Your understanding of your spiritual journey and when you surmise when it would be okay to continue cannot be transferred to ANY other person. You are actually judging God's conviction on another. That is wrong. It took Jesus about 50 words to denounce condemnation and invoke forgiveness and send the prostitute away with "go and sin no more". She was (found out) marched out, right or wrong, but the key is God's grace is immediate with earnest repentance (How many times in the past, had she asked God to get her out of her. Lifestyle/situation... We do not know, only God knows?). Jesus definitely did not ask that she to not to speak of his forgiveness! But you'd say she has to satisfy your spirit before she has the right to preach God's grace and forgiveness? I believe she most likely started expressing her faith and gratitude immediately. You don't get it.

    How can one be a Christian yet support abortion ??

    • @helenr4300
      @helenr4300 10 месяцев назад +3

      Because the Bible doesn't define the start of life. Jewish understanding has been the point of drawing breath. Personally happy to consider it before that but not at the point of egg fertilisation. It is estimated 40% of fertilised eggs spontaneously abort as incompatible gene mixes. In countries with good access to abortion it generally happens within weeks of confirming a pregnancy. Reducing access doesn't change a person's choice but enforces delay until the pregnancy is more advanced, or increase people taking risks outside of medical care.
      The statistically proven ways to reduce abortions in a population is good sex ed and easy access to birth control. Good teen sex ed (including consent and emotional development ) is shown to actually increase the age of first sexual encounters. And the ability for families to limit number of children is especially important financially - as not affording another mouth to feed is a significant aspect of abortion demand.
      And the out of pocket costs of pregnancy care and safe birth environments can also be one factor among others in the choices women make.
      I find it bizarre that anti abortion groups are generally so against the actions and public policy that reduce the demand for abortions, preferring to take medical care away from people. See the case where a woman had to go to court in Texas for a very public request for an abortion where the wanted fetus is not viable to survive after birth and if the pregnancy continued could harm the woman including any future pregnancy. This is the sort of case that exist out there. Women don't go through life wanting abortions, nor take it as an easy choice, but there are times when it should be a valid option in early pregnancy.
