  • "Thru the Eyes of Ruby" is a song by American alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released in 1995 as part of their album "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness". The song is a lengthy and multi-part epic that showcases the band's dynamic range and complexity. The lyrics are abstract and poetic, with themes of love, loss, and searching for meaning in life. The song can be interpreted as an exploration of a relationship, as the narrator reflects on the complexities and uncertainties of love.
The song's title itself suggests a focus on perception and perspective, as the ruby is often associated with wisdom and insight in many cultures. The lyrics explore the idea of seeing the world and oneself through the eyes of another, and the transformative power of love. The song's complex structure and shifting moods mirror the ups and downs of a romantic relationship, with moments of tenderness, frustration, and intense emotion.
Overall, "Thru the Eyes of Ruby" is a powerful and intricate song that delves deep into the human experience of love and connection. Its exploration of perception and perspective adds a layer of depth and complexity to the emotional themes of the song,

This is clearly Billy Corgan's masterpiece. The drumming from Chamberlain is the essential heart of the matter.

There is a live version on RUclips from a Brixton show in the 1990s. It is a much harder version, and amazing the live hard version and the studio version work perfectly, with the studio version more "pink floyd" like you stated. In the live version Chamberlain is a blur of arms banging the drums. @@alan-reacts65

Ive never thought of the lyrics so contrasting. So true. What seems to be reward and beauty and love, from
Another perspective can be entrapment, fear and sadness. Wow. Been listening to this song for almost 30 years

Billy Corgan described Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness to the press as The Wall for Generation X, and inducted Pink Floyd to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as he is a fan himself

So appreciate and relate to your point of view and experience of this. I have an unfair advantage as this is compositionally my favorite SP song... wish he never made it seem like a gothic proposal song, else it would have been perfect.

Good one, Alan! However, I prefer the first album, "Gish," for the hypnotic guitar weaves. Listen to "I Am One," or "Rhinocerous" for righteous guitar attack! Thanks again!

The coda is absurd as well.
