Thank you mate 👍🏻 💪🏻
Good set. DEADLIFTING and SQUATTING take alot out of you.
Thanks mate, yes definitely squats and deadlifts are the hardest exercises 💪🏻
Set the car alarm off haha
😄haha 😂👍🏻💪🏻
Quality video! Just finished doing my DLs, and the top set was much more of a grind than I was expecting. All the best!
@johnfisher7757 thanks John 👍🏻💪🏻
Spooky... just been out the garage setting up for Deadlifts and put the U Tub on for some music. Whats the 1st thing on the feed? Big Col doing deads...
Getting ready to start 5/3/1 for the winter, whilst managing a dodgy back!
Keep up the good work mate.
Thanks mate. Good luck with your deadlift program and your dodgy back 👍🏻 💪🏻
140Kg is a lot from my perspective, good work.
Thanks mate 👍🏻💪🏻
good job brother
Thanks mate 👍🏻 💪🏻

E età?
Give it 6/8 weeks mate and you'll be flying! First week back deadlifting is always, always brutal. It'll come back surprisingly quickly. Good luck.
Yes you're right. Give it a few weeks. Thanks mate 👍🏻 💪🏻
Your experience shows volume …. Some intensity then speed reps for fast twitch fibres, explosive, nice.
Cheers Robin mate 👍🏻 💪🏻
Hope your schedule for tomorrow is relaxed. You’ll need (and deserve) some rest. I’d buy you a pint if I could!
Cheers 🍻 👍🏻💪🏻
Good workout Col, keep the consistency going, the weight will gradually improve with time, like you said sometimes you have to drop the weight a little bit just to get the form right, then in time the weight will get heavier. Better weather today!
@johnmcfall1703 yes mate. Drop the weight down a bit and build up slowly over the weeks. Will soon get stronger.
Yes better weather, but it will start to get cold soon 😄👍🏻💪🏻
When you get older you don't need to build more muscle. Unless you don't have any to begin with. When you get older it's more important to keep what you have and maintain. You don't need extra weight to carry around in old age. And yes, I'm 64 and still pumping iron.
Hi Col,
Have you tried front squats?
They’re quite brutal.
Yes mate, very brutal 👍🏻 💪🏻
Your bar speed on those 140s from an objective standpoint, were fast and especially bringing your hips through past the knee. I think they felt hard because your CNS has had a long break .
You're probably right mate. Watching it back I think they looked easier than they felt.
Cheers mate 👍🏻 💪🏻
Strong💪😉👍
Thanks mate 👍🏻 💪🏻
Ayop. Similar story to mine, I am in S Yorks, I imagine we crossed paths t some point, I competed ipf, trained at Adwick, Doncaster. I am 58.
First, I have been plagued this yea by the sam elbow issue, same arm. I think it may have something to do with the mixed grip, I have gone over to straps and double overhand. I am not going to compete.
Remember we are doing this natural. I am 5’6” and looking to get down from 90 kg to 83. I used to compete at 100 kg, but age has to be considered. Heavy is not healthy.
One thing I did was introduce a Load of kettlebell work. Set after set on the minute. Never felt better. I have tried all sorts but am convinced the kbell movements are the best thing. They complement the big lifts and keep you in shape.
F course here are many ossicle approaches, but I highly recommend the kbells. Maybe ever more so as we age.
Yes mate I bet our paths have crossed. I've lifted a couple of times at the Forresters arms, great venue.
Kettlebells are great , I don't use them enough, will start to use them more now though after reading this.
My elbow is finally starting to feel good again. Hope you have some luck with yours mate 👍🏻 💪🏻
@@cols-muscle-power Yep, the Forresters. I trained and competed there a few years. Recently I got in touch with one of the lads and he told me there was no club in Doncaster any more. I was thinking of having a go at competition when I hit 60. My elbow is not so bad at the moment, but I think with age we are going to hurt anyway, so may as well train on.
Sad there's no club in Doncaster anymore.
You're right pal we get older and have aches and pains whether we lift or not, so might as well lift 😂👍🏻💪🏻
I don’t mind dead lift except I have to be careful I don’t hurt my back , then I can barely move, lol
Yes be careful and use good form.
Back injuries can be so painful 👍🏻💪🏻
Last year at age 56, I tweaked my back doing deadlifts with around 400 lbs. Every since then I only deadlift with dumbbells by my side, going up to 130 lbs each. My back likes it better. Stopped doing conventional barbell rows and switched to pendlay rows (sp?), much safer IMO. Low bar squats to me, is almost comparable to the deadlift, but my back is thankful. Can’t do high bar anymore without some form of lower and upper back pain. Falling apart mate, at 57 lol, but I will adapt, and never stop.
Good work, stay safe, and listen to your body.
I like doing rack deadlifts. And RDL’s Dorian Yates style for the back. They are my two heavy pulls , One week I do rack, and the following week I do RDLs , The RDL’s’s complement and translate great to dead lifting
Good stuff mate 👍🏻 💪🏻
Good job, I know exactly how you feel. It’s not easy as you get older, I’m now 63. How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking?
56
I'm just a baby mate, you've got 10 years on me 😄💪🏻
Very powerful deadlift execution. Good Stuff!
Thanks 👍🏻 💪🏻
Good stuff Col... You're videos are excellent tutorials as well as entertaining. As a 64 year old that does only 6 or 7 compound lifts throughout the week, but works out really really hard, I find that I can only do each lift once a week or else I'll get too warn out and beat down. What do you think about that? Any thought would be appreciated -- and yes, dead lifts are my favorite lift.
Hey William, you say "only ".
I say 6 or 7 compound lifts a week is a lot of work. Sounds like you're training really hard mate.
Great stuff mate keep it up 👍🏻💪🏻
@@cols-muscle-power Thanks for replying Col. I guess my question for you is the following: I fit in all my lifts into 4 or 5 days per week as I really need those rest days, but in order to stay consistent I tend to alternate each week which lifts I go harder on in order to keep the intensity high -- does this make sense to you? Thanks, and greetings from California.
Absolutely yes it makes sense. You listen to your body. Can't lift heavy every session.
Keep doing what you're doing 👍🏻💪🏻
My favourite is the biceps exercises and back and shoulders I did a bit of that this morning mate keep up the workouts ❤
I think my favourite thing to train is probably back 👍🏻💪🏻
Col, how much rest did you have
for your last two sets of deads.
Not sure mate, don't time them. Maybe a few minutes 👍🏻💪🏻
10:38 his face tells it all
😄💪🏻
@@cols-muscle-power i heard your speech!!different ballgame
@@reverendterminator absolutely mate 👍🏻💪🏻
@@cols-muscle-power it is bread and butter as you say good saxon Earl Cols.
I was told off my personal trainer to never deadlift with a mixed grip because it could cause bicep injury. I was told to use the hook grip with your thumbs tucked in. But you can generally deadlift more heavier weight with the mixed grip.
@@lolawilson8144 it's possible yes to tear a bicep when using a mixed grip on deadlifts, but I think this usually happens when people pull and flex the biceps when lifting.
I've been using a mixed grip for over 30 years without any problems 💪🏻💪🏻
Great stuff. I don't do em any more cos when it gets really grindy I'm worried about my lower back pinging. I've got a trap bar and I do rdls with that. Works every thing deads do but a bit less risky.
Nice one John, yes do what's best for you mate 👍🏻 💪🏻
Let me guess. The DOMS were so bad, you needed someone to help you when sitting down on the toilet. We've all been there.
You guessed it pal 😄😂👍🏻💪🏻
Deadlift..one day on four months off.Mike Mentzer style..Nice..
Haha yes 😂👍🏻💪🏻
