I would love for Zeiss to get back into the lens game as a true 3rd party, premium lens maker. I would love to see them make a new line of FF and APSC mirrorless glass, unshackled from Sony who seem to be DIYing their glass now.
Cool to see Zeiss glass on a Fuji body, honestly that’s not something we see enough of!
My dad own the Sony version of this lens for over 10 years. It’s an amazing lens. Most people complained about the AF speed and the noise. Plus you had to send it in to Zeiss just to update the firmware. Back in the day it was one of the only 12mm lens regardless of Sony or Fuji. The price was close to $1000 if I remember correctly. Many people lean towards a manual rikonon back in the day due to price. But it is hands down one of my favorite lens for star shooting back in the day. I no longer own any Fuji camera as I moved on to everything Leica. But for city and landscape I’d happily choose this over the 8-16 or 16 or 18 1.4
Zeiss lenses are so exciting on Fuji sensors! There's alot going on to produce organic vintage images! I really want to see Fuji medium format with medium format Zeiss contax lenses!
Same here! I've wanted to try the 85/1.4 Planar for a long time.
The beauty of the Zeiss 12mm touit is that you never needed to do any corrective work on any of the pictures taken, when used in the Sony apsc system. They were just awesome SOOC. I had a samyang 12mm f/2.0, changed to the Zeiss and never looked back.
Nice series of photos. I wish you would have did a side by side comparison with the Viltrox stopped down to F/2.8. It would have been nice to see which one performed better at that aperture onward to F/11.
I think the excellence of the Fuji 16 1.4 makes a lot of people overlook the wider primes available for the system. Feel like the 14mm 2.8 also gets overlooked for the same reason, even though it's an exceptional piece of glass. And if you just want a versatile wide lens, the 10-24 f4 is cheaper even if slower and not as optically exciting. Kind of threads a very small needle.
I’ve got fond memories about this lens. Though the Touit-line is certainly not Zeiss’ finest in terms of IQ, these are still very good lenses with great contrast and beautiful (color) rendering. The 12mm iom is the best of the three. You might think that the Fuji 14/2.8 is its closest competitor, but the 18mm vs. 21mm FF equiv. is quite a big difference. Highly recommended esp. when you buy pre-owned.
for sure, the IQ out of this was actually amazing. The 32/1.8 wasn't as impressive, but still fun.
I’ve kept mine since launch for Sony, like 2012-2013. It’s a loud motor but who cares for landscape. Great sharpness and colors. I haven’t given it enough love. Maybe this fall I’ll take it out again!
Have you tried the Rokinon 12mm 2.0 lens? Would be interesting to hear your impressions of how they compare.
Just bought Touit 32mm for E mount. Adore it.
I actually love this lens, the 16mm nikkor was always a favourite for street photography and this reminds me of that somewhat. It is a proper retro-focus distagon design with floating elements and while not as sharp as my 14mm fujinon I find the rendering and colour more pleasing. AF is good and it is a solid made in Japan lens.
If only I could find an X-E4 to purchase.... You have the camera that I want and I'm jealous!
The only real complaint you can make about some of these older Zeiss lenses is price, which just means if you can get one for a good price, they're often a good buy. Nice photos.
So many reasons why it is overlooked really... But Zeiss is Zeiss, right? I personally use Laowa 9/2.8 for all the wide stuff, wanna try out that promised 8/3.5 Fuji lens in the nearest future😁
I own both 12mm and 32mm. Love them so much. My only complaint is, I wish they made an 85mm.
The whole Zeiss line is overlooked for Fuji and I’m not sure why. The 32mm in particular is epic!
I want a wide prime to take with me for travel and am really struggling on the options available. I care most about the size, I can live with a slower aperture as long as the lens is sharp. What I'm most confused about is what focal length, or more specifically - how wide I should go. I know Fuji are releasing an 8mm f/3.5 that is very compact, but I don't know if 8mm feels a bit too wide. Any recommendations / advice?
Would you prefer this one over the viltrox 13mm?
I'm on the fence selling this and going with Viltrox 13mm. I should be happy with this, but I feel the Viltrox is far superior.
The size is really the biggest factor. The Viltrox is fantastic but really large for an APSC lens
Did you end up selling it? I'm deciding between these two, I want the wider FOV but it wouldn't make any sense if the Viltrox IQ is better
Is it better than the Samyang 12mm? The Zeiss is more than 2x the cost.
Are you able to make any comparisons to the 33mm f1.4 Fuji with the 32mm zeiss?
A depth of field scale would have been nice!
The Viltrox is sharper even at it's much brighter max. aperture. No wonder it's bigger.
It does looks better with the lens hood and takes better photos too.
Benj, I'm really wondering something. I've been looking at both the xe4 and x100v for my first camera, with my main intent being to photograph my products and do some street/everyday/travel photography here and there. Really caught up on the decision, as I am aware that the 100v does have a 35mm equivalent, but has 'macro' functionality and I think it does also have focus bracketing, meaning it could definitely be useful for products.
What do you think I should go for?
Maybe depends on the product and if a 35mm equivalent is what you want/need, but you can’t really go wrong with either
@@benjhaisch I get that. So for instance, if it were something wallet/belt sized, do you think a 35mm equivalent would be fine, or should I press ahead and go for a 30, 60 or 80mm macro? (When the 30 comes that is)
Just so many options with the xe4. Being that you have various use cases, I would think the xe4 would be best. I’m not so into macro photography, but street photography, portraiture, some landscape, and video. I love my xe4
@@Shmyrk main reason for the macro lens is they are really good for product photos, exceptionally good. I don't intend to use it in a traditional sense at all, although how does it handle large lenses in your opinion? I'm planning on a 16-55 2.8 if I do pull the trigger on an xe4, but the lack of weather sealing is something I am concerned about, with wanting to get outdoor shots and all that. Really I'm waiting on the xpro4, as I love the aesthetic of the X pro, and they seem to be built like tanks, but the 3's hidden screen is something of an offput for me, I'd much rather a flippy screen or one similar to the xt3. Just something more useable 😅. They both feature focus bracketing, which does really make it a promising camera to pick up. How is the video, what are the record limits?
Always love your videos and work, thanks for always sharing! Mind if I ask what song this is? It’s brilliant used with your content!

@@benjhaisch ah, nice. Thank you sir. Fantastic music to compliment your remarkable images. Nice choice!
I recently said goodbye to my Fuji 16mm/f1.4 and I've been secretly pining for a wide replacement, and this Zeiss looks like the frontrunner - would like to hear opinions from folks who own both and love black & white sims..cheers!
This or the Viltrox 13/1.4
While there are option, nothing beats optical performance & build quality of Zeiss lenses,
Great lens this 12mm 2.8 Touit, I have had it since 2015.
The 50mm 2.8 macro too.
The 50mm macro is incredible
It's a really nice lens when you right down to it. See what I did there? Thanks for the video.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing, 🍻
What's the manual focus like on the Touit?
is this lens good with fx30? i saw some comments about noisy autofocus
Nice & Thanks :)
Song id at 1:11?

Benj, is X-Pro 3 worth it?
I have one and yes
I have one and it was worth it to me. Depends on what you want. If you want unique shooting experience, with an optical view finder, and rangefinder style body. If none of those things appeal to you save some dollars and get a X-T3.
Yep, depends on your needs/wants. But it’s a great camera.
You'll know the moment you see the back. Your gut either says "uh.. what?" or "omg this is amazing". If you're the latter, you will love the X-Pro3. I'm the latter and can confirm 😉
I want to know the name of the song in this video

@@benjhaisch Thanks!
I found mine at a pawn shop for twenty bucks
Amazing!
Not oberlooked but they are terrible as Zeiss. I have had photos with the Planar series a decade ago, when compared to this, it really is not Zeiss.
Stop playing that dreadful music. Sounds like christian rock.
Ha! Nah, I’m good making the videos I’m currently making.
Lol
