Hi great powder coating you do for a few years... I am looking to do some VINYL covers like you here...Question is there are different types of VINYL make... Which one is best to powder coat over ie make and thicknes levels Cheers Gary
Good stuff. Thanks for the video. Of course, I have a ton of white Oracal 651, so I guess I'll just use it for masks. I'll have to give some of the black or silver stuff a go sometime.
So I just started powder coating. I used some of the yellow tape and like you said it was extremely difficult to get off. The line that I wanted crisp wasn’t at all crisp. You mentioned not letting it get cold so do I need to remove the tape as soon as the part comes out of the oven? I did the color and then clear, so I left the tape on for both processes. But I did let it cool before I pulled the tape. Do I need to pull and re-tape between layers or just make sure it comes off when I’m done curing the last step? Also, had some of the pinholes you had. You said “just make a quick adjustment to the gun and they’ll disappear.” What adjustments do you make to fix it?
How about using a decal as a stencil? Let's say i wanna powder coat my calipers in Oxblood Hues with Transparent Copper lettering over a Super chrome II base, the idea is Spray super chrome II Cure, add Decal, Spray Oxblood Hues, partial cure, Remove decal, Spray Transparent Copper and wipe(so that TC is only in the letters) full cure, does it sound right?
I just tried this last night, unfortunately there was air bubbles over the letters. Doesnt look bad, but I was able to scratch the clear right off. I used illusion shocker then clear vision.
Was about to ask the same question. I get asked to do bike frames quite often but customers want custom decals on the frame. I didn’t think it’d be possible to do without it melting the decal
Have learned a lot from your videos. One question. You recommend Green Diamond 30/60 however no one will ship to Orlando, FL. Is there other blast media that can be used that's similar to the Green Diamond?
I was in prismatics website looking at colors for my two piece style 5 wheels. Whats the easiest whit or grey to paint match since you cant powder coat the plastic center caps
Would you advise using black iron sheets of 16 gauge 4’x8’ for $75 tax included each, to build a 4’x8’ oven? I could powder coat them. Would this work for on the cheap. Completely DELETED FBOOK. So I cannot ask questions to group any longer.
@@supremecoating the amber tape sticks better, comes off easier, goes around edges better, thinner so less edge. It's not even a comparison. My snap info I think is in all my video descriptions. But @unknowncoatings

Does the heat required to cure the clear coat not affect the vinyl below or is that a special vinyl ie foil ?
Do you find that the vinyl shrinks at all?
Always look forward to new videos! All notifications are on!
I truly appreciate it, vids every day this week!
Liked the demo, great powder coating tips indeed!

Wanting to get into Powder coating. Learning alot great video thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Can you do a video that goes over types of powders via what works well for heat, strength, look ect.? Thanks for you content its inspiring.
yeah I can probably do that!
The tape is Kapton or polyamide tape.
thats the one
great explanation
thanks!
Great Video! Helpful info even though I'm having someone else powder coat my calipers. Subscribed. Well Done.
Thanks. This seems much more weekend DIYer friendly 😂

What vinyl do you use?
oracal 651

nice!
I did powder coat over decal and the decal bubbled up after curing.
maybe got too hot? or wrong vinyl?
I realize that I'm late to the game, but what was the specific clear used on these calipers

not so much right when it comes out of the oven with the yellow tape, but definitely will its still warm/hot
What torque do you set the 4 e-torx bolts to when reassembling the calipers?
Out of the main 30 questions about powdercoating decals, I was the one who asked 27 of them. The other 3 was from my other account
haha I appreciate it either way!

I'm definitely trying this!! 🔥🔥👊😎

interesting, what was the vinyl type?
Where do you get the "Plugs & Caps" you use for the holes? Thanks.
in the video description, high temp masking supply is a sponsor, use the discount code UNKNOWN20
So do you cure the clear normal temp or do you do lower temp for longer so the sticker doesn’t melt
This is what I'm wondering too....
Was about to ask the same question. I get asked to do bike frames quite often but customers want custom decals on the frame. I didn’t think it’d be possible to do without it melting the decal
nah, same cure schedule
Do you cure it at a lower temp and longer duration because of the vinyl?
Nope, I follow the standard cure schedule

maybe try 10x?
I was in prismatics website looking at colors for my two piece style 5 wheels. Whats the easiest whit or grey to paint match since you cant powder coat the plastic center caps
both should be fairly easy to match honestly.

you can do that for the inside, but you can run 20g on the outside just fine
I got some really rusty parts should I still outgas them first or sandblast them than outgas them?
you can but make sure they are very clean before you do that. No grease or anything
Do you rebuild the calipers and do you charge extra for piston removal ?
yes each process has an associated cost.
Is that a vacuum of some sort in the intro of a video?
Minute 1:46 I mean..
yes, just a small attachment that leads to a shop vac
what temp did you cure them in the end?
the clear requires 375 for 12 minutes
Great channel!! Really enjoying the content. Quick question, what Kv setting do you normally spray the powder at?
I use the settings as recommended by the supplier. Most first coats are 40-50kv
@@UnknownCoatings thanks for the response!!
Does any vinyl work or does it have to be high temp vinyl?
I dont know they make high temp vinyl, this is oracal 651. as mentioned in the video
Are you in California?
Nah. Washington

I switched to amber. Green is to stiff and peels off in the oven sometimes.
