Been using my RC-1 to do some brackets and smaller parts. My first powder coat gun and for someone with no experience I have been getting great results.
Thanks for the video. One question: These plastic closures you are using to masking the connections and the piston, are they surviving the heat in the oven?
I guy from kali muscles RUclips channel tried saying you couldn't powder coat break calibers because of the pistons ??? Kali had some1 powder coat his calibers on his dodge hellcat an the guy tried saying that the guy couldn't of powered coated them,he had to of painted them...LOL so the guy was wrong obviously because yours look great bro..good job 👍
Hi Tyler thanks such a informative and practical video I have a question, after you put the red colour did u leave the calipers in the oven to cure first or did spray the clear immediately after the color If you put the calipers in the oven before spraying the clear how long do keep in the oven and at temperature Thanks in advance
Smacking the wrench with your palm will hurt a lot less than the side of your hand. Also you can remove the pistons with a blow gun that has a rubber tip. Keep the bleeder in and blow air into the brake line bolt hole
When you start spraying here you mention that you forgot the o-ring between adapter and gun. I wonder what o-ring that is? I had the same issue when doing my first spray, other than that super happy with the rc1 gun :D Thanks!
There’s a clear-ish/white o ring that comes in your box. If you have misplaced it you can just use a standard black o ring in its place. Glad to hear you’re liking it!
Hey tyler, First off i want to say that i love the RC1! Question i have is the little air twist knob on the powder tank, what is the best setting for it? (All the way out, 1/4 of the way, ????? Because ik its made to fluidize the powder, so wondering the best position! Thanks bro keep the vids coming
Glad to hear! I usually don’t mess with the knob, I don’t even know exactly where mine is set. I control my cloud with a regulator before the control box. But you can adjust it while spraying to get the cloud to your liking and spray style. 👍🏼
Rim strip is the stripper and the neutralizer is baking soda/water. It is still recommended to blast after stripping but stripping first makes your blasting a lot quicker. www.royalcoatspowdercoating.com/product-page/rim-strip
@@hasanabdul-hasib76 rim strip comes ready to use and I usually add a about 7 pounds to around 40 gallons and add to it as the bubbling slows from neutralizing parts
I saw you blasted and coated mating surface where the caliper get mounted.. does that cause any issues? I saw you also blasted like the pin holes and all that.. can all that be blasted? I just did brakes similar to those and I masked all the holes and mounting surfaces and it was too much lol
The coating on these was actually powder from the manufacturer without any masking for mounting brackets. Most of the time I would recommend masking the mating surface. I just tried to be careful while blasting around the pin holes since they would be filled with grease. Definitely want to keep the powder out though. Some brakes have more masking than others. Working on a set of 6 piston 2 piece Wilwoods right now that have a ton of masking. But also a much higher quality caliper.
@@royalcoatspowdercoating yeah I saw how the calipers were before you started working on them.. I was just wondering for the next time. When blasting do you use duct tape? To cover up machined surfaces? If so when done and tape gets removed it leaves like the tape/glue residue how do you get rid of that? Looking forward for that video!
@@perknowitzki7158 some times I use duct tape and sometimes I use the high temp green tape depending on the application. Like this next set of calipers I’m using the green tape because of the residue issue. Usually I try to stay away from the edge as much as possible. I also use the thicker, more expensive duct tape and that seems to help also.
I don't know what I am doing wrong. I love the way the first coat goes on my cups/koozis, but I can't get the 2nd coat to work at all. I run the first coat around 20-25 but it doesn't seem to matter where I run the 2nd coat. I get fish eyes and it doesn't cover properly. Some advice would be awesome.
Great video, I’ve got one question for you tho. Can you break down cost for this job on your end and cost for customer and how you calculated what you charged him? I am new to this part of the business, not sure how to charge customers and how I should break it down . Your response would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 🙏
Great vid man . Do you know the name of the tool you are using to remove the pistons ? Also after doing tons of these , did you find an easier way to remove the pistons ?
You put a block of wood in front of the pistons and give a few short blasts of compressed air into the hole where the brake hose attached to the caliper. And be sure to KEEP YOUR FINGERS CLEAR OF BEING BETWEEN THE BLOCK OF WOOD AND THE CALIPER PISTONS WHEN YOU BLAST THE AIR.
Weird question but can you show how you have your powder booth setup with the ventilation and grounding an what not. Btw the calipers turned out great 👍🏻
Thanks! I will attach a link to the video of the booth build. And for the ground, I have a ground rod outside for now with a piece of I believe 8 or 10 gauge wire running running from it to my hanging rack. Hi can you please give me an estimate for shipping costs to Ireland and the price for the Rc1 with all the extras including 4 extra hopper bottles. I like your honesty about your products and hope we can do bisness and I will demo the Rc1 to guys here in my part of the world and maybe you can get some more sales for it. Muy buenas amigo. Me encantan tus videos. Estoy emprendiendo mi negocio de pintura en polvo aquí en España y tus videos me están siendo muy muy útiles
You gave information on the tools and the gun you used, but what kind of powder did you use? Was it high heat? What brand?
I did my LS1 calipers mine leaked put new O rings the powder coating was easy great finish, put the pistons back in was not easy
Great job. Been waiting for a detailed video on coating brake calipers.
I wished I could post the adjustable wrench in did in illusion cherry with the RC1, it leeks great. Awesome gun

Tyler, this channel is really growing well! Congrats.

Wow! Amazing job! Quick question how long did you put the calipers for in the oven after spraying base and clear coat?
Thanks for the video. One question: These plastic closures you are using to masking the connections and the piston, are they surviving the heat in the oven?
They are silicon. They’ll survive the heat but it is best to remove them before coating

They just have to be completely disassembled before coating. Calipers are powder coated all the time.
Best gun i used so far! Way better than the eastwood and harbor freight gun.
Glad to hear!
Hi, great videos! Would like to know,is the neutralising tank just water and baking soda ? Thanks
Thanks, yes it is!
Hey what did you use to plug up the holes and cover up the piston slots?? Thanks hope to hear back
They are high temp silicon plugs!

Just a partial cure (few minutes past flow out) between colors and full cure after clear is applied.
Hot flocked the clear?
@royalcoatspowdercoating Can you please tell me where I can but the caliper plugs for the piston holes and other holes on the caliper?
They came from high temp masking

How'd you just thread those bolts in after powder coating the threads ?
No threads were coated and I just blew out the slide pin holes. Those bolts I’m putting in are threading into the slide pins.
