  • This week in Hakuba we had over 1;5 meters of snowfall. Some of the lifts were unable to open due to them being snowed under along with there being an extreme avalanche risk. There is always options though and we certainly found some good ones. We had 2 days of riding the Tsugaike tree zone. There is a armband that you need to obtain which you can easily get from Jackies Kitchen which is located just under the gondola top station. It takes about 5 minutes if you have watched the safety video. I will put a link to that below. They will warn you of the hazards that you may encounter. I would suggest to not take children into the area. Take a wrong turn and you can end up hiking out in waist deep snow for 30 minutes. Avalanche risk, thermal pockets, creeks, gilde cracks and cornices are mixed in throughout the trees and are unmarked so be aware. I show myself getting into a predicament above a cliff face. A small hike to the side allowed me a safer drop. I stomped the landing however I was still 2 meters from the cat track so I decided to throw myself closer to make it an easier exit. I hope you enjoyed that entertainment :)
    We also had an amazing day at Cortina where the sun poked out for a time. Just an epic week all round.
    We also saw little AJ2 tearing down the run at Happo. Doing great for a first grader but what would you expect from the locals.
    Thanks for watching my vid and please give it a subscribe on the link below. Feel free to ask me any questions about Hakuba in the comments and let me know what you want to see more of. See you next week.

    WHAT A SEASON! Amazing that the homes do not collapse under the weight of the snow.. Great footage of your week on the slopes -- thanks TJ!

      I'm amazed at that too. It has stayed cold right throughout the winter so a lot of them haven't shed since December.

    Another great video! So all of this footage is inbounds? Just one area that you sign into? And the opening trees @ 0:30, is that the sign in area too? That cornice @ ~5:22 needed to be dropped with so much fresh pow!

      Thanks for watching Ken. Not one rope was dropped in the making of this video :) All the fottage this week is within resorts. Opening trees are at Tsugaike in the DBD tree zone. The cornice was at Cortina and patrol do tend to it with a cut or explosive usually. As the lift wasn't open people were hiking it and warning signs were posted before entering the area.

    What week of the year was this? Trying to work out if late December is worth a go.

      That was posted on the 27th Feb 2022 so the week before that. Late December won't have such a deep base but most years it is excellent at that time.

    what board do you ride?

    • @TJinHakuba
      @TJinHakuba  2 года назад

      I'm on a Burton Fish. Maybe 5-6 years old. It's a great board that has done me well. My kids get all the new kit now so I just have to wait until covid passes by before I can afford an upgrade. Thankfully only 1 ptex scar so far. Spring time I will be on a Burton Custom. Thanks for watching, Bob.

      @@TJinHakuba awesome, short or long?

      @TJinHakuba  2 года назад

      @@Bob-ru6nw 160. I tend to ride longer boards. The extra surface area helps on those deep days.
