TJ in Hakuba
Япония
Добавлен 10 мар 2014
I'm a Hakuba hotel owner with a passion for the snow and the drive to ensure his guests get the best snow experience of their life. My videos will give you a taste of what we have on offer all year in the Hakuba Valley with some road trips thrown in for good measure. Skiers and snowboarders unite with our love of all things snow. That passion transcends to travel, food and of course apres antics. We will show you the best of the Japanese Alps along with some of the other popular areas like Shiga Kogen, Nozawa, Myoko, Madarao and we may even sneak a trip up to Niseko this winter. When winter is over and this virus dissipates we'll travel further afield to Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto along with many of the remote areas of Japan and discover what makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

TJ in Hakuba 2022 / 23 season highlights.
Well, better late than never. This one has been in the can since last year but work and family life just got in the way of finishing it off. It was a tough year coming out of covid in regards to work, however as usual some epic times on the snow was had. I know it looks like I put a filter on my chat at the end. Still trying to work out the new camera. I'm sure I will get it right before the season starts. No one wants to see me in 4k anyway :)
Thanks for watching and please leave a comment and let me know what you would like to see in and around Hakuba. See you soon.

I'M BACK Here it is folks. After a bit of a break coming off covid it's time to get out there with my cam and my friends again and get some snow vids happening. Here's some highlights of the 2023/24 season. All filmed in Hakuba. Hope you enjoy it. Sorry about the aspect ratio changing around. Got myself a new camera for the coming winter so hopefully we'll sort all that out. Opening day was 30t...
Japan opens up to tourism

Well it's what we have all been waiting to hear. Japan will officially open up it's borders for foreign tourism. The Prime Minister will make an announcement very shortly regarding this. I have jumped the gun a little but my sources are very reliable. Start booking now. Flights first. I would go with a reputable airline like Singapore Air who have had a consistant service running here to Japan ...
4 year old local Hakuba skier ripping up the slopes. Last week of the 21/22 snow season.
Просмотров 1 тыс.2 года назад
This 4 year old Hakuba local is amazing to watch on the slopes. Geordy Sawa-Thiele has skied more sessions than most crew here this season. Great little kid with a lot of personality. He is about to sign a legit sponsorship deal too. Watch out for him on the slopes next year and you could place a bet that you will hear a lot more about him in the future. He truly has a passion for skiing. We al...
Late spring on the snow in Hakuba Japan. Is it worth it?
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.2 года назад
Late April and the 3 big Hakuba resorts are still open. Goryu/47, Happo One and Tsugaike still have lifts running and stay open until the first week of May. Snow conditions have been great this week however a big wet storm came in late and ruined a few areas. 47 has been able to just hold on to top to bottom skiing and the park there should be able to stay open through to the end. Is it worth c...
Get off your phone and other Hakuba stuff. Still plenty of snow here in Japan

Some perfect spring days here in Hakuba, Japan. It really has great local vibes at this time of year. The snow is soft, the temperature is warm and the cherry blossums are out. I have a chat about pulling your phone or camera out while on the snow. I recommend that you give yourself the first hour or 2 as gadget free time. Take in the moment and immerse yourself. Those first runs especially on ...
60 Feet. AMAZING snow walls of Japan.

Tateyama or Mt Tate is about 25 k’s as the crow flys from Hakuba. It is one of the snowiest places on earth and as we see in the video there was no shortage of snow this year. 18 meters or 60 feet is the recorded height as from the 15th of April. That’s a huge base and even though thankfully we don’t see that amount here in Hakuba it does have a correlation to how good our winter was this seaso...
Hakuba Tsugaike top to bottom and fresh April snow. My decadent life continues.

My decadent life continues with fresh snow falling and me getting fresh tracks in April. Good times here in Hakuba Japan even this late in one of the best seasons ever. This is my longest vid yet but that’s because top to bottom at Tsugaike takes a long time. Add an extra 10-15 minutes if you take the ropeway up.(check last weeks video) Can I recommend coming here in spring? Well, it’s better t...
Top to bottom at Iwatake ski resort. Hakuba springtime turns in the snow.

Some stunning spring weather here in Hakuba with the sun shining bright, not a breath of wind and not a cloud in the sky. Just perfect for a few slushy runs and a few beers on one of the best viewing platforms in the valley. Iwatake is fast becoming one of the most popular resorts in the valley for all year round activities. For the snow season, even though it is one of the smaller resorts, it ...
Hakuba fresh tracks in Spring. Still scoring.

On the edge of powder and cream this week in Hakuba. Plenty of fresh tracks to be had regardless of the moisture density of the snow. Cortina was heavy but good fun and could let loose knowing it was consistent. We rode the ropeway at Tsugaike and hiked for 30 minutes or so up to the Tenguppara Flats just under Norikura Dake (mountain) The weather came in pretty fast so I turned back and let it...
Togakushi Ski Resort, Tsugaike Ropeway and a day on our own private resort.

This week we jump in the car and take a road trip over to Togakushi. There was a slopestyle competition on and a bunch of the Hakuba local crew were involved so I thought I would join in on the fun. Not my style of riding but happy to spectate and cheer. Togakushi is a great little resort with some amazing views looking back over towards Hakuba to the west. It’s been a massive week here in Hakuba with a good storm rolling through and dumping a lot of snow. Around 80cms up top over a couple of days. Hakuba is amazing in this respect with so many bc options. You could live here your entire ...
Hakuba Japan accidental powder days. The season that keeps on delivering.

Spring has sprung and the first week of no meaningful snowfall this season. Hey but what's that? Yep even on some smaller dumps we can still score some good lines. These conditions would be classed as epic at a lot of resorts around the world and don't get me wrong, I reckon it is fantastic however we have been very spoiled this year with so many deep days. This week I had a couple of sessions ...
Japans best tree runs. Tsugaike DBD Tsugapow tree zone is high on the list.

This week in Hakuba we had over 1;5 meters of snowfall. Some of the lifts were unable to open due to them being snowed under along with there being an extreme avalanche risk. There is always options though and we certainly found some good ones. We had 2 days of riding the Tsugaike tree zone. There is a armband that you need to obtain which you can easily get from Jackies Kitchen which is locate...
Hakuba, Japan pow. It just keeps snowing.

We hit it out of the park here in Hakuba this week with another storm delivering huge amounts of snow. The gullies are filling and the base just keeps growing. 3 big powder days and we also had a 10cm day thrown in there at Tsugaike too. From my experience the 10 cm day is probably the perfect amount for most skiers. They can get that floating feeling whilst still taking an edge on their turns....

Surely this season should be a belter. Particularly after the rainy blow out in January
Just bad timing there Pat. End of Feb also. Then March came along and said "hold my drink" :)
Can’t wait for this season!
Thanks for watching, Kerrie. There is a buzz going in the village.
Good on you mate. counting down now, can't wait!
Thanks for watching Steve. Soooo pumped here.
Hello TJ, looking at your videos since Im coming to Hakuba from 6 january to 14. Is it a good time ? Do you have some top restaurants I can try ? Thank you for all your videos !
By the way, hope I can come to the White Horse !
Thanks for watching. Those dates are during peak season for snow so you should be fine. 8 nights so you should score. Kikyo-ya is the best sushi restaurant in town. Good soba noodles there too. Drop into our bar in Echoland and i'll be happy to offer some more restaurant tips. I'm there between 4:30 and 9pm everyday.
when did u visit? can u provide a date? thanks.
I live in Hakuba. The video is dated the 2nd January 2021 so it was footage from the 7 days prior. Thanks for watching.
Great to see you back
Thanks for watching, John.
How reliable is the first week in March?
Very reliable. There will be a 3--4 meter base at the top of the resorts.
@@TJinHakuba usually still top to bottom?
@@touchstar68 yep. All the resorts will be. The start of that vid was 5th April and still top to bottom at Tsugaike.
@@TJinHakuba thanks TJ, I'll see you on the slopes 😁
Great to have you back TJ. Keep the content coming. I may have have to live vicariously through you this season!
Thanks for watching Paul. I'm aiming to get out there even more this season. Soooo pumped.
Great to have you back TJ. Keep the content coming. I may have have to live vicariously through you this season!
Nice to see you back on and getting some runs in mate. see you for a beer or two in a few months.👍
Sounds good! I'll be here.
Great to see you back mate. We’re over in early Feb. Will drop into the Horse for a beer.
Thanks for watching. Beer sounds good.
Always excited to see your videos TJ, love seeing how Hakuba is going
Thanks for watching mate. Soon pumped for the upcoming season.
Cool video, mate.
Thanks for watching. Lots more to come.
Hey TJ, Can we expect some new vids this season pleeeezzzeeee?? We are booked ready to go and will be looking to you to build the excitement leading up to Feb!!
I've got a highlights reel from last season coming up soon. Bought a new camera and getting ready to shoot. "I'M NOT LEAVING" :)
This is class TJ!! Best vid ive found. Will be arriving on March 2nd for 10 days. Could you recommend the best Mt's to try? Will have my two boys with me who are boarding between beginner and intermediate level and wifey will need a green run haha.
Thanks for watching. That was one of the most memorable weeks of snowboarding in my life. I do a snow report each morning on my fb page that will point you to the best conditions for the valley. Lots of options here. A good spot to start would be Iimori or Tsugaike for some great beginner terrain. Plenty of runs to progress on as well. You're going to love it. facebook.com/hakuba1
@@TJinHakuba thanks for the swift reply and advice TJ. Can’t wait!
I like your vibe dude. Subscribed ! Making my first trip over in mid Feb next year. What’s the weather like then? Any sunny clear days ?
Thanks for watching Baz. Our general storm cycle is a big one will come through over a few days then 1 or 2 clear days before the next cycle. No promises though :) Jump onto my Hakuba FB page and give it a like & follow for daily reports on the best choice to slide each day facebook.com/hakuba1
@@TJinHakuba thanks Tj, What’s the name of your hotel 🏨?
@@TJinHakuba btw your fb page was great. Loved the way I could just scroll down to the same dates for my trip and see the weather from last year. Bravo sir 👏👏

Thank you for thevideo. I'll be visiting you next january :D
I'm sure you will love here.
We are coming to Hakuba on the 12th April with kids. Can you please suggest beginners friendly ski resort and would you have any recommendations for beginners friendly ski lessons. Thank you!
Top of the 47 gondola area is probably the best spot for beginners at this time of year. Go with Hakuba Snowsports for your lessons. www.hakubasnowsports.com/
Is april 23 still spring ski?
Yes there will still be snow at that time of year.
Hi, I am planning a trip in early may this year, do you think there’d still be cherry blossoms at that time??
You never know when the blossoms will be out. It all depends on the temperatures and how much wind and rain we get during that period. It will still be beautiful up here at that time regardless. Worth the trip, I reckon.
Amazing Tsugaike ,I ‘m planning to go to Hakuba during Christmas 2024 ,How is the snow condition in that early opening winter season in Tsugaike? Because I ‘m a beginner skier so I ‘m worried about the snow quality.
As a beginner you will have an amazing time. Christmas always has snow here.
Just curious, why you think a beenie is a better option to a helmet?
Just a personal preference.
Hey TJ! I am planning on coming to Japan from 10-24th of April. What are the chances of being able to ski during this time period? Is there enough snow and is it possible? if so, what are your recommendations for places to ski during Apirl? Thanks mate!!
Sorry this one flew under the radar. Love my spring sliding. I don't want to dress it up but for me the resorts have a really good local vibe and there is snow. I'm out there most days as work is quiet. Love doing some hiking too.
We were thinking of visiting Hakuba in early April, not for Skiing but to hike around - is everywhere snow-covered at this time or still plenty of green areas too? Is everything closed that time of year?
Hi Gilliam. Thanks for watching. 3 of the resorts are still open. Hire a pair of snowshoes and you'll be able to hike up the mountain. I can recommend going up the ropeway at Tsugaike especially. ruclips.net/video/Hxnzg9DP8YY/видео.html
hi just in the process of booking for next year would you say the first two week sin march is still good looking at doing a couple of guided days can you recommend any one or a good company
Thanks for watching. March is a great time to get into the backcountry here. Guiding companies that we use are Evergreen, Northern Heights and Goodguides.
Would last week of March to be late to go?
Everything is still open for the last week of March. It will be spring conditions but still worthwhile in my opinion.
Is this common for april? Im going next year around this time frame.
Thanks for subscribing, bean. This is what I wrote in the bio. "Can I recommend coming here in spring? Well, it’s better than sitting in an office or slogging away on a jobsite. Weekends are busy with the locals loving everything about it. At this time of year everyone is at peak performance with a whole winter under their belt" There will be snow here to ski on and enjoy. Don't expect fresh snow but it can happen. I hope you get here.
@TJinHakuba cheers mate! Just trying to decide if hokkaido or the hakuba area will be better at that time of the year.
Awesome, thanks for sharing..
Thanks for watching :)
Is it easy to reach from Nagano Station? And how was your overall experience. I'm not at all experienced so will you recommend this for me?
They run buses from Nagano station. I enjoy Togakushi and have been there a number of times however if you are a beginner then I would probably recommend Hakuba as it is set up better for foreigners coming in for rentals and lessons.
@@TJinHakuba thank you
@@TJinHakuba we are visiting Togakushi Shrine so we decided that it will be better to visit this than travel back to other ski resorts.
thanks for share the info of Tsugaike will be going 2024 ! thanks dude
Thanks for watching Mak. You will have an amazing time there.
Has anyone been eaten by bears here?
They hibernate in the winter. Our bears are little black ones and although they will take a bite I have never heard of anyone being eaten by one.
is it good visiting by the last week of December?
Yes it always is at that time of year.
Mate I also love my poor mans powder, coming from NZ that's all we hope to get at whakapapa. Super nostalgic watching this, I was in Hakuba early March 2019 and got some punchi powder, was magnificent
Hey TJ enjoy your break while you can as it looks like half of Aussie is heading your way this Xmas and into the new year, good for business but no good shooting your pow vids, whats your thoughts on your goggles and are they the 2100 VP X or the 2100 V
Pumped for this coming season. With a little local knowledge i'm hoping to be in front of those powder hungry aussies :) Not sure of the model of the googles but I was very happy with them and can certainly recommend them.
this month is April right? how about the snow condition on January to March? because im planning to go to Japan for the first time..🙂
Thanks for watching Ronaldo. Yep that's April. There will be 2+ meters on top of that base with plenty of pow for you :)
One of your best videos TJ - and topped it off with a shot of Fireball at the end 😂👌👌
Thanks for watching Andy. That was an amazing week.

Sorry I missed this message. I hope you were able to book something.
Any chance for an update on your well being. You have been missed this winter.
Hi Dave. Business bounced back bigger than expected and I was totally snowed under. I'll be back soon.
Videos don’t do justice to how steep those red runs are!
Thanks for watching Ben.
I'm coming to Hakuba next week, I do not have experience of skiing or snowboarding. Basically I'm coming with my kids to enjoy snow. Which snow resort would you recommend to enjoy some good time with kids
Hi Samson. Thanks for watching. Try Iwatake for snow play at the top of the gondola. If you want to try skiing for a day then get a lesson with Hakuba Snowsports at Goryu. That would be a fun family day.
Hi, i'm planning to go to hakuba april 7-8-9 to learn snowboarding on the 8th. But i have no car. Do you know if any accomodation there offer send/pick up? I heard no more shuttle bus going to hakuba47 in april. And only hakuba47 still open?
Hi Lisa. Thanks for watching. We offer private shuttles to all the resorts. Shoot me a message at info@whitehorse-hakuba.com
Brilliant video
Thanks for watching.
What week of the year was this? Trying to work out if late December is worth a go.
That was posted on the 27th Feb 2022 so the week before that. Late December won't have such a deep base but most years it is excellent at that time.
@@TJinHakuba Cheers! Sounds like a plan for Christmas 2023!
Hi TJ! Just discovered your channel and subscribed! My husband and I will be in Tsugaike tomorrow and Hakuba 47 on Saturday. Quick 2 day Hakuba trip from Tokyo. I absolutely love the area and its gorgeous views and I absolutely love skiing there. 2 days is just not enough, and I'm not ready for this ski season to end. I hope we can go back in April. Where is your hotel located? Thank you for the awesome videos! :)
Thanks for subscribing, Lola. Good timing for this trip with some fresh snow due tonight. We are located in Echoland. Let me know if you are keen for a return in April and I'll sort out a good deal for you. info@whitehorse-hakuba.com. Cherry blossoms are out here in mid to late April too.
Hi TJ loving your vids - hoping to come next year with my 18 year old lad - weve always wanted to go backcountry, off piste etc - Can you recommend a guide ?. many thanks
Thanks for watching Jason. Evergreen are the most established backcountry guiding company. You can also try James at Northern Heights.
We have a trip planned from 30th April-17th May - are there any areas that will still have snow for skiing and snowboarding around this time? I’ve heard we might get lucky first week of May if we go to the right areas
Hi Matt. Yes usually the 3 big resorts are open until the end of the Golden Week holidays in Japan. Last day will likely be the 7th May. It's spring skiing so don't have big expectations but it's still fun to get out there on the mountains.
nice video! hitting the reaort today!
Thanks for watching. Good groomer day today. Go and register for the tree skiing up at Jackies Kitchen. Will be worth while in 2 days with the next storm approaching.
Hi TJ, I am going to Hakuba in April 4-8 this year. What are some of the ski resorts that you think will still be open this year? Thank you!
Hi Richie. Thanks for watching. Goryu/47, Happo One & Tsugaike will all be open during that time.
Hi Tony, I'm planning to solo travel to Hakuba for snow skiing for the first time, may I ask if we still can expect snow during early April?
Hi Gerald. There will be plenty of snow on the ground. It's anyones guess if you get any fresh snowfall while you are here though. Shoot me a message if you are looking for accom. You need to go with one that offers shuttles as the resorts buses have usually finished by then. Goryu/47, Happo and Tsugaike will all be open.
