Have to say it, breath of fresh air as this chap is not hyped like so many American people, only my opinion. I learnt a lot and no annoying music blaring in the background. 😊
Well Hailong is just the maker of the case. It's whoever built the battery pack was careless to not fix an obvious problem. I have 6 batteries I built with the hailong cases and years since the first one I built I've never had a fire (knocking on wood)... That must be a newer design because my USB cases are not like that and the PCBs were covered with a black material. I don't use them anymore since I build much bigger/more powerful batteries now.
It's unfortunate that product copying is so widespread in China, they even pirate their own brands, so Hailong/Chamrider/UPP may not even be the real manufacturer of some of these faulty batteries but gets all the bad rep because its their sticker on the enclosure. Anyways I trnd to treat my large batteries like IEDs no matter how robust they are supposed to be. I even store and charge them in an old freezer i lined with fireproof materials and i have a sandbag above the batteries so if they catch fire the bag will burn through and dump sand on them automatically. The whole contraption is far enough from my house so it shouldn't pose a danger.
Genuinely speaking the actual build quality is not to bad and lg cells pretty good for the actual price you pay definitely gonna add some foam and covering on the usb port tho thats pretty dodgy how they didn't do so in the first place but hey for a 48v 15ah battery thats the one ive got anyways for £246 Genuinely cant complain great video on it mate was very helpful they also sell them under the nane unit pack
If you have this similar battery with USB charger output, you better disable / cut the entire wire connected to USB module and remove the module then cover it. I noticed mine as it is a bit hot on the side and when I opened the case, the USB module was burnt. You may get a more reliable USB module if you want but in my case, it is better to totally remove it.
Extremely grateful for this presentation. It's similar work I used to do in root cause analysis of potential failures of product design/manufacturing so I really appreciate your work enormously and you might have saved a life.. BTW have you contacted HL and informed them of your excellent findings? Even that red wire that had some of its strands severed could over heat and potentially cause melting/fire as the reduced wire circumference might not cope with the current high drain... Thank you again 👊
Are you referring to the statement of facts, the battery was cheap and from China therefore it is a cheap Chinese battery, in any event I can only recommend buying from a repretable source if you are worried or learn how to build a good robust battery yourself,
Is there a way to see if there are any bad/dead battery cells in the pack? and if there is a bad/dead battery in the pack can i just replace the one or two?
You can test them individually through a charge cycle but when you re assemble or replace 1 it needs to be balanced. ideally like for like but with the same ma/h rating also you MUST test the voltage of each battery to insure they are charged to the same voltage, for example if you have 20 batteries @ 1.2v and 1 @ 1v when you connect them in a pack the 20 with 1.2v will try to instantly charge the 1 @ 1v to the same level causing it to overheat, become damaged or potentially explode. There are a few good videos on how to DIY your own pack that will give you a good idea of what you need to do and how to do it safely. I'd always recommend watching a few different videos and never trust a single source that thinks they know it all.
Hi dude. I need your help. Can u prefer or send me a link to buy good 48V battery? I don't know which one is good. (Scooter main battery is 48v 10ah 480w)
I can't really recommend one myself but there are a few group forums on telegram and discord with people who can give you good advice. I would say from my experience the discord groups generally have alot more schills on affilliate programmes and telegram tends to have a more intellectuals that will give you an honest answer
So sketched out I had a fire before too I don't trust it with 10-ft pole now got to build your own packs 😶😰 last thing I want is burned down my own house too 😬

Can you please link me a place where i can buy a fireproof bag big enough to store this battery inside. After seing this video and others like it, ive decided that just to be on the safe side ill no longer be leaving the battery on my bike when not in use, instead storing it in the fireproof bag instead. Or in other words; youve scared the shit out of me!
Just double check the dimensions for you battery. Lipo batteries are my more unstable so it's easy to find storage boxes etc if you use that search term. There's a lot of different options some much cheaper.
the reason most of these batteries catch fire, is because the chargers malfunction and do not auto shut off. The chargers than over charge and cause a fire
I buy them battery boxes all the time. What has the plastic battery box. Got to do with the quality of cells. And how it's put together. if someone builds a bad battery Park with fake cells & is badly put together and sells it online. It has nothing to do with the company who made the plastic battery box.
well if you watch the video you'll see that whats pointed out as one of the potential hazards is part of the USB aux charger circuit and the cell mounting bracket both of which have everything to do with the company who made the "plastic battery box" as you put it. Now there were other errors in assembly and I couldn't say definitively if the cells were fake or not but from my opinion they looked authentic but niether of these things were the primary cause for concern.

Just opened mine and it has this issue. One of the cells is dented in about to be punctured...
Thanks man. Same issue here and i just decided to check it out because of your video. In my case i decided to remove the entire USB.
can u make a video on how to do it?
Is the fuse for this in the mount that holds the battery?
Majority of the time lithium fires are poor assembly it rarely ever the cell, even the cheapest cell is hard to self destruct.

I know this comment is a bit older, but I just wanted to point out that Hailing is the style of battery and not the brand.
Hailong only manufacture the plastic cases, What's inside is down to whoever built the pack.
Don’t add water to a battery fire as it’s a chemical fire! Use foam extinguisher
There is no really good advise on what to do with lion battery fire. The best thing you can do is to throw it to an area where it can burn safely.

Is it worth avoiding this brand of battery Hailong and is there any you would recommend bro?
hailong is the name of the case.. not the battery. Nothing will fix cheap people making cheap batteries. Nothing wrong with hailong cases.

the reason most of these batteries catch fire, is because the chargers malfunction and do not auto shut off. The chargers than over charge and cause a fire
I'm guessing you mean the BMS because the charger has no control and is just a simple power supply
The 48V chargers should top out at 54.6V. The BMS should disconnect above 55V. For an overcharge you would need a faulty charger AND a faulty BMS.
