Fish aren’t safe especially in earthquake tsunamis but seriously BE THE CAMERA MAN
The way they showed the wave's approach and sudden-impact from the perspective of the car's wing-mirror (rather than just showing it outright) was nothing less than cinematic gold. Something little like that does so much to magnify the tension, literally left me with heart palpatations (and no less, again, just rewatching the scene here)

This is a good movie. My boyfriend and I watched this on Netflix when it came out. We're usually too lazy to read the subtitles in English but we were glad we took a chance on this one. We really enjoyed it and he stayed awake through the entire movie (reading and all / lol). Says a lot because he often falls asleep on what he considers predictable American made movies. Definitely worth watching if you haven't.

A landslide tsunami like this (but maybe smaller) actually happened at vajont dam in Italy. It sent two giant waves, one of the waves went over the dam and down the valley. It destroyed hundreds of buildings and killed thousands of lives.
Actually, it was about this height.
TytoAlbaSoren this also happened In the Alaskan bay. It was the tallest tsunami ever recorded.

Out does many Hollywood films no cliches,no bad guy versus good guys, just basic ordinary people, strong character study, special effects were great and suspense to the disaster was well done.

Out of all the earth's natural disasters the tsunamis freak me out the most
if you live 5 feet from the ocean or next to a lake surrounded by mountains that is understandable
Look on the bright side, at least the super rich will get taken out first.
the only thing unrealistic about this scene is the water "chasing" them through the hotel. with a tsunami of that size crashing down onto a hotel at the inside tip of a fjord, no way would that happen. instead, the sheer volume of the water would completely demolish the hotel off its foundations. otherwise, this movie and its sequel, skjelvet/the quake, are both excellent disaster movies
concrete buildings sometimes do resisted high volume forces of water without the whole structure being ripped from its foundation. It depends on the quality and integrity of building. I think do to the amount of windows the hotel has, the water can freely push through building with interruptions. It's like having a wall with no holes going against a strong wind gust. What happens when there is no passage through a structure and strong wind loads are pushing violently pushing against that wall? The wind loads are increasing against the structure eventually increasing its pressure against the wall until the wall reaches its integrity and falls over.
Just pretend they're running around a floating hotel that was removed from its foundations all in one piece.
Later we see a bus next to the hotel just flipped on it's side with no broken windows or whatsoever so destruction isn't that realistic in this movie lol
the dark, dim and thick lighting really give this movie the feel it needs.
Its odd to me that the hotel only got a few broken windows, when that wave was literally destroying mountains in its path. That hotel is Solid!
it didn't destroy entire mountains and it was much smaller by the time it reached the hotel
I like how the wave wrung the bell at the front desk of the hotel 🤩🤪😶
you must have the ears of a bat to notice that. Good on you

It's a Scandinavian tsunami. So it is very polite and civilised. :D

The same thing happened at Lituya Bay, Alaska in 1958. After a landslide into a fjord, the resulting mega-tsunami was 1710 feet (524 meters) high. A man was on his boat and survived by steering into (and up and over) the wave!

I have been looking for this movie FORVER!!
This movie is really good! Even the sequel is good
I watched this movie although it had sub titles i really enjoyed it. Very worth watching.
This is probably the most realistic mega tsunami
Look up La Palma, one of the Canary Islands. Some geologist believe that it may split at a fault and a large mountain side may slide into the Atlantic ocean. The tsunami would reach the eastern U.S.
Same with Geiranger a 1 million km2 square mountain will drop in the fjord
Yeeeeeehaaaaaa!!
The Canary Island tsunami would most likely affect the African Portuguese and Spanish citizens. The people from the US will be safe because, by the time the wave reaches them, it will be just about 5-10 meters high.
you know your finished when the birds start flying

Yeah I be like "what the hell is happening to side their getting away from" but when I see flocks of birds flying i dont usually think of danger, I just think of them flying but now this made me paranoid
A tsunami caused by a landslide also happened in Alaska in the 1970s. The wave was taller than the Empire State Building and a father and his son survived riding on top of it in their boat. No joke.
Edit: 1950s. I was misinformed.
Yep, Lituya Bay.
I have seen the documentary :)
For some reason, I found this hilarious lmao
i just imagined a father and sun going fishing on top of a tsunami in a sunny day while everyone else is being ran over by the tsunami lol
It's hard to believe a wave that size only killed 5 people but RIP to those that lost their lives though.

This will happen at some point from La Palma Island, if the volcano shows signs of activity. In fact, they are monitoring existing cracks.
Cumbre Vieja.
Yes, but the hundred-Meter high waves laying waste to the entire Atlantic Coastline both east and west has been largely debunked. There is going to be a Tsunami and it's going to be pretty bad, however not that bad.
CGI is a little wonky but still better than big-budget films like "2012" with the bonus of characters worth caring about.

that last scene, is so epicly wrong on so many levels. the wave dwarthed the building, and would have ripped it off its foundation in seconds. no time would have been spent running through the corridors to find an undergroudn bunker lol
And? There are mistakes far worse in big Hollywood productions, don't see a problem here.
@@leDespicable The entire film is about a tsunami, Despicable. Everything involving the tsunami has to simply work, dictated by physics and the realities of what it would do. If you get those obvious things wrong, the entire film falls apart.
It takes you out of the immersion of an event like that, and reminds you, its just a film on a budget. It can ruin the rest of the film, because you can begin to see all the other issues, with the film, once you're taken out of the immersion. Theres some things in films you cant make mistakes with. especially the main plot.
And besides. this isnt a fantasy film, its telling a story of something that can actually happen in rl, and in someways, are educational, not just entertainment. Tsunami's do happen, and rarely mega tsunami's do aswell. infact theres 1 or 2 predicted to happen. 1 in which involves Tenerife, and the entire east coast of USA being wiped out.
@@3Danful come on dude just have fun watching the movie lmao, not everything has to be hyperrealistic and this movie already is extremely impressive given it's an independent company
Yeah the entire building would be obliterated.
you understand water doesn't just instantly vaporize everything, right? Also, the wave more went through the building than anything because the comparatively narrow concrete and metal supports directed the water through the hallways and out the back. i admit the hotel should have been a little more damaged but it wouldn't be completely obliterated.
I just hope the WAVE is big enough to get them all.
Cool. Now I don't have to watch the movie.. just seen it.
I think if you see a tsunami, it's already too late for you.
Almost having died from drowning once. I can feel that pain. But I survived and I am still alive. But having your lungs full of water and being revived... It was painful as hell.

Plot twist: The wave lifted the hotel off its foundation all in one piece and is just sinking.
I love how the water was just picking up ⬆️ I loved it
This reminds me of titanic 2:07
Birds have an inbuilt electro magnetic compass...they leg it when they sense a disturbance in the electro magnetic fields caused by an earthquake, tsunami. They have an advance warning of about an hour or so more even if there a tremors beforehand. Domestic animals will also act strangely before these events as they sense it's about to happen.
I'd believe that. There was an Aussie paranormal show in the 90s called "the extraordinary" that reported a zoo noticed pretty much every single animal in their enclosures acting strange, quiet, nervous, scared. The strange behaviour intensified over a few days...... Then boom! Earthquake. I'm guessing this was in California but I can't remember.
For a moment I thought this was il Vajont
It feelt sureal driving there and thinking about the movie and watching the danger hidden in the mountains
