The second idea is soo good.....I never knew that you could put purple coloring in your butter cream to make it go white...Such a surprise and such a amazing idea....Love it
I think I'd go with the purple hack. The reason is the tiny, tiny amount required so I won't have to add more icing sugar. I couldn't really tell what cupcakes was piped with which buttercream so I guess that's a good thing :-)
You are amazing lady,I was searching these white issues, but I prefer add the purple ones.like the snow in the light its reflect the purple,so I love the Nature one,Thanks you
If you make buttercream using half butter and half vegetable shortening it will come out much whiter, it can also withstand warmer temperatures due to the vegetable shortening
wow that is soooo cool! I will definitely be trying out that purple hack! Here in Australia the butter is very yellow so be interesting to see it change to white!
Wow thank u for this tip, this is what im looking for ,,, is that advisable to apply also the white icing to the swiss meringue buttercream? btw, is that advisable for an open area if i use that for my cake, not going to melt ?
The purple colouring is actually inspired by a makeup trick. :) You use purple to cancel out any yellowness in the skin tone. Who ever decided to try it in icing was very smart. It should work in cake batter, also, to give a truly white vanilla cake without having to buy boxed "white" cake. (edited for a typo correction)
True, colour balancing is an art trick, and it led to the movement in makeup application, but using it to colour icing was inspired by makeup, and not the art technique at the base of it all. ;)
It’s an all AROUND color effect . This is the basics to any coloring and artistry whether you do makeup, hair artist, painter, colorist, tattoo artist it’s a ground rule that has no change. All primary colors neutrilze secondary colors.
I am going to try the purple hack tomorrow. As I have ordered some white colour but that has not arrived yet. as I want to ice my cake with with icing so fingers crossed this works Thank you
I realise that you have had a lot of practice at this and can tell really easily, but for novices like me, are you able to give any tips on how to tell whether your buttercream is the right consistency? Too thick is probably easy to work out as it won't come out of the nozzle easily, but by then you have already put it in the bag! I'm not sure how to tell from when it's in the bowl.. and also no idea how to tell if too thin.. any advice would be gratefully received 😁. Also that purple hack is wicked!
Wow I can't believe that works. here In Germany I have to ship everything from America, so it gets really expensive. Therefore I prefer the second method. :)
I was wondering does this white icing color agent turn anything white? For instance I want to have a white cake. I used other white gel coloring agent on the batter however after baking the cake always turn out to be yellowish.
Hi jenn. love your video's. i made swissbuttercream and added white gel because i wanted to pure white but unfortunately i added too much now when i tested it there is traces of white in my mouth. any solution to fix it please help
im having a hard time working with. mini cupcake pan i was trying to make brownie bites with Reese cups inside an they just do not turn out do you have any tips that would help thanks
Wow! I will play it safe and use the white coloring by Wilton. I have to make a ton of buttercream white and the slightest hue of purple would be disastrous.
Omg I was just looking for a video like this, I was gonna make a birthday cake, thank you so much xx

Okay... I want to go home and make white buttercream just so I can try the purple trick! That is amazing.
I prefer adding purple so I don't need to add sugar. I struggle with consistancy and prefer not to mess with it once it's correct. Love your videos
Americolor "Bright White" soft gel is thicker in consistency than the Wilton white-white.
Adding a tiny bit of the purple takes it to the next level!
That is SOOOOOO cool!!! Yellow add purple get white!!!! Jen you blew my mind, hahaha I definitely want to try that!
I love the white coloring hack

It's really more of an art trick than just a makeup thing.

I also noticed that when I used a plant based butter instead, it gets it a lot closer to white than regular cow fat butter!
big thanks Jenn..👌😍
I prefer to just using shortening instead of butter to get a white frosting.
Wow! I will play it safe and use the white coloring by Wilton. I have to make a ton of buttercream white and the slightest hue of purple would be disastrous.
I tried the AmeriColor regal purple and it actually changed my buttercream icing white. This method actually works.😀
