The cement boards needs to be taped with fiberglass tape and filled with thinset, dried up and then painted over with waterproof membrane like Red Gard or Hydro Band. This to prevent water from getting into your walls/insulation. This is done before tiling.
Good for trying it yourself, If your happy with it that’s all that matters sir. For next time I would tell you to use a pencil for cleaning your grout lines
