I was there and did not know what to expect. It was nuts, but also a lot of fun. Zak was having a great time and, believe it or not, the crowd thought it was fun too.
Yeah well, I was there that night and as a twenty year old guitar player in 1993. Zakk wylde fuckin screaming over the top of allman brothers. Was just about a dream come true. My favorite southern rock band and my favorite psycho guitarist in one place!!! Playing my favorite childhood songs?? Dream come true. I actually didn’t even know till s few years ago. What an iconic concert that actually was. Hahahahaha. I showed up on a whim. Not planned
Was right there, so I'm a witness! The important thing was that the show went on. Me & my friends flew all that way from Georgia for this concert. A long way! My elderly Mom was even worried that no one would be able to fill Dickey's shoes.
I was at this show. Was actually a pretty good show. But like Devon said Zakk was Zakk. Was actually kind of cool the two contrasts. Also... helped me win a WZLX trivia contest a few years later for limo and sit on stage during show with ABB. Meet & greet after too.
I was at that Great Woods show. Zakk said during the show that he was in an ABB cover band so he knew the songs. Also, I remember Zakk played the guitar with his teeth at one point. I doubt Dickie ever did that 🙂. My friend had "Golden Circle" tickets (when they were starting to charge more for being up front). $75 and he was pissed he had to see Zakk instead of Dickie.
I have been listening to the Allman Brothers Band since I was about 9 yrs old. I am now 40. And no Disrespect to anyone in this interview. But, listening to it, I am receptive in the fact that it sounds a little disrespectful towards Zakk....Whether I can phrase this correct? But with Zakk Wylde playing with the ABB, and helping out the band as they mentioned. It seems they just didnt take a liking to Zakks guitar playing and style. (Not a good fit) Honestly I'd have to say at least Zakk brings his own phrasing and style to the music. Versus offspring from members of a great band that were taught most likely note for note of what was originally written. People go to shows to listen to songs that represent a time and a feeling, and be played close to the original. Its something special thats for sure!! And there is not a problem with that. But dont sound slanderous in a sense towards someone that fills in as a musician that can play like a mother fucker, and play anything on guitar, Yet in his own style and phrasing. I mean what if Neil peart were to have filled in on drums for them?? what kind of result would have been suspected?? Most likely there would be the same criticism. Zakk you are Awesome love your playing and music!! The Allman Brothers Band Long Live Forever!!!
Zakk Wylde went on to sell many more Platinum albums with a few different bands through the 90's, 2000's, and 2010's...I mean...ya'll looked a gift horse in the mouth...no disrespect. Gregg and Duane were absolute geniuses.
My brother Z is going to play like he plays, no matter who he plays with. Same as if you put Dickie on an Ozzy stage….still gonna play like Dickie. I’ve seen this interview before and I really don’t care for the tone of it….especially in light of how Z (and the rest of us) worship the Brothers and their music.
Y’all invited Zakk, so you knew what you were getting . Borderline being disrespectful here. Seems like everyone that was in the crowd dug it just for something different.
These guys are all exaggerators. He was definitely not spitting beer everywhere, and if you listen to the recording he is totally NOT doing his usual shred stuff.

The show with Zakk was great... They played Stormy Monday like I never seen before... And Dreams, One Way Out... That was great, I'm shure

He’s right, they hired Zakk Wylde, so Zakk Wylde played Zakk Wylde
This show needs an archival remaster. It goes so wild. Hence ... Zakk goes Wylde.
Zakk is going to play like Zakk, period. I thought it was great and the audience sounded like they loved it.

Problem is, you hear one Zakk solo, you've heard them all.
@@moreblack Not really. He was just jamming.
There are plenty of tapes of that show floating around. It's definitely not classic ABB, but it is an excellent show in its own right.
Shows how great The Allman Brothers were played with everyone from Willie Nelson to Zakk Wylde.
I think zakk is totally great. He was a younger player and wild ass. But if he played the same show today it would be totally different
Say what they want about Zakk, but what a privilege for the ABB to have Zakk Wylde play with them!
ABB's had a great who's who of players come thru. The bar was so high, Zakk couldn't reach it on the night.
I was at that concert.
Ida loved seeing Zakk play with the Allman Brothers Band . Loved Zakk with Ozzy & BVS so Ida loved Zakk with The ABB just as much 😊

Toughen up, you would'nt had a show if he did'nt show. #thepussificationofrockstars
This Betts kid is a real prime pussy

Sounding a bit snobbish ?
Ey Duane?
zakk is the greatest

Butch may have said that, but his drumming is intense as fuck on the recordings of that show. I think Zakk was just making him work hard. 🤣
Zakk is from Jersey and is more southern than these guys
Lol
Yeah, a confederate flag Les Paul was really out of place with a southern rock band lmfao. What's hat guy talking about lol?
I mean Zakk was a Skynyrd fan after all
He’s been sober for a long time now.
There's an element of disrespect here for Zakk...
Zakk is a great guitarist, but he is pretty much incapable of "matching the hatch". It'd be like Dickey playing with Ozzy - it just wouldn't work.
