      if not seen already...
You should watch (I think you'll LOVE it) and react (would love to see it) to:
      Claymore (26 episodes)
Claymore is the female version of Berserk (and Goblin Slayer and Demon Slayer) and has similar character design to that of the Witcher series (as they all came out around the same time, more or less, likely all influencing each other). Clare truly is Guts’ long lost sister of the sword.
While having nearly an entire female cast, this is no "girly anime", there's no/zero fanservice, and even their chest sizes are realistic, as these girls are all business, and that business is killing yomas
The girls are known as "Silver-Eyed Witches", as they're half-human and half-yoma, giving them their superhuman and inhuman power and abilities. They also are known as "Claymores", due to wielding 6 ft long claymore swords, and with only 1 hand, and they know how to use them. You don't f'k these girls, they f'k you.
Everyone LOVES Claymore, I've yet to meet a single person who doesn't love it, and also girls too love Claymore surprisingly, despite that Claymore is more of a guy's anime (action, violence, etc).
Also, Claymore is the most similar anime to Attack On Titan, even spoiling some major concepts in Attack On Titan. But, it's also completely different from Attack On Titan, of course. So, if you like Attack On Titan, you'll definitely love Claymore as well! If you think Mikasa is sexy and badass... wait until you see Clare (and someone else too)... grins
(japanese/raw or english dub, both are very good, you can see which you like better)

Goblin Slayer took the romanticized fantasy monsters and made them monstrous once again. You take one look at goblins in this world and you understand why he fights. It falls into the Grim Dark genre and that is hard to stomach for a lot of people but that in itself doesn't make it a bad show. It's what the show does with those themes and that genre that matters most and I say Goblin Slayer really sticks the landing.

My favorite thing about season 1 is the growth of Priestess. She starts the season being in over her head, helpless and being saved by Goblin Slayer. But at the end she’s wiser, stronger and comes in like a boss to save Goblin Slayer parallel to how he saved her.

Yes! She has a great story arc.
I also liked how the Sword Maiden hiding in the church reflected what the priestess could've become.

Priestess, in essence becomes Goblin Slayer, but without his psychological trauma and issues, and yes, Sword Maiden is literally what happens when you're NOT saved by Goblin Slayer, Sword Maiden really had a RIGHT to be jealous, angry, and bitter at Priestess, getting saved by Goblin Slayer, whereas no one ever came to save her... poor Sword Maiden, no "knight in shiny... ugly... armor" ever came to save her...

The series is dark and grotesque but there’s more to the series. Interesting fights and strategy. And ya the MC nearly died a few times. Goblin Slayer is dead pan and cold but that is related to his trauma. It’s funny how the entire cast are simply titles or descriptions like High Elf or Goblin Slayer. A lot of the strategies are like when you come up with something unique in DND. With a studio change, hopefully season 2 production still holds up well

  • @ProSharpshooter
    @ProSharpshooter Год назад +9

Nah, to further expand on just how gigabrain the bit with the scroll was, it was a scroll of Gate. If you've ever played DND, that particular spell is in the echelon of the strongest possible magic mortals can use. He goes to a high level sorceress in the Guild and has her link the destination of the scroll to the *bottom of the ocean*, which he stated he'd intended to use it to flood out a goblin nest if needed. Instead, he winds up using it like a high pressure water canon to cut a larger enemy in half so he can walk up and finish it off. Definitely one of my favorite moments of his next to having the priestess use Barrier to trap goblins in a burning elven fortress to asphyxiate them and having the party use a mirror with Gate transcribed in it as an umbrella from a falling ceiling.

Two unique things about this series that I find interesting:
    1. It's... technical fantasy. As in "this is how things are done, this is how they work". Its elements all fit together perfectly and work to both set the stage and enable its resolution. I love me a good technical fantasy.
    2. Strangely enough, I just... can't seem to be able to read the light novel. But the manga and definitely the anime... I sure as hell can, and enjoy every minute of them.
Because of its technical presentation, with all the "hows" and "whys", I feel that this, the anime, is the best possible format this story can have, for then you can truly feel all its impactful power.
More so with Mili's stellar ost, especially the track "From Within". My favorite.
So yeah, so glad we have Goblin Slayer, aka "Orcbolg" (as Elf Archer calls him, I like that name) back to massacre the filthy green vermin.

One of the problems were some of the anime reviewers like Mother's Basement who over-exaggerated the shock scenes, then misconstrued the entire story, and then proceeded to refuse to properly watch the show before making huge statements about the show as a whole based on one scene. And he wasn't the only one. Meanwhile, the people who actually watched the show, or read the light novel, knew what was actually going on. And we were discussing the matters in details because there is a lot to unpack.
But the discussion was ultimately just overtaken by these righteous mobs crying foul, similarly to what they did with the Rising of the Shield Hero. Complaining about the first episode, talking about how problematic it is, thinking that the whole show was solely based on that first episode, and failing to actually understand the actual story being told and the cleverness of the show.
Even after popular sentiment had shifted after the season fully aired and people who gave the show a shot pushed back on those incorrect judgement, these popular reviewers instead doubled down on their assessment without giving the show a proper fair shake.
Oh and, something that doesn't get touched on in the anime, but does get mentioned in the light novel. One of the reason why he uses that awkward short sword and mediocre armor, is because if he dies he doesn't want to provide any meaningful equipment to the goblins. Essentially, he cares so much about the impact he may have that he even considers the potential damage he may cause when he dies.

Cowgirl comes from GS's village too. They are the only 2 survivors of their village. She was lucky to be taken for a trip by her uncle before the goblins attack the village.
The side story with the boy and girl who went to exterminate sewer rats, is there to show GS's potential as an adventurer trainer. He gave them advice on how to recover the boy's sword. Later near the end of the series, the guild lady put forward an idea of a adventurer training school. Which opens up the possibility of GS becoming a trainer when he retires. GS has been thinking about his future, what would he do next when there are no more goblins to kill.

dude you were spot on! I'm so happy you liked goblin slayer!
I remember when I first came across it I loved how tactical GS was, it's one of the few times in anime that I actually felt like the world actually made sense. I especially love that it didn't sugar coat how goblins reproduce at the beginning of the show and then move on to bigger scarier monsters and never worry about goblins again.
I've heard it described (and agree with the idea) that Goblin Slayer is more like watching a veteran adventurer with PTSD slowly recover thanks to good companions while at the same time being a badass and hero to the people.
Another great part is watching priestess grow in confidence and abilities from being a naive newbie to becoming an amazing Goblin slaying expert in her own right along with the other party members.
Iirc there was some important information that was omitted in the anime that was included in the manga for some the scenes that make them so much better i.e. when the girls told him no fire, water, poison, or explosions its because they were worried in his pursuit of exterminating the goblins he would end up messing up the towns water ways/sewer system.
I purposefully stopped myself from reading the manga so that i could enjoy the second season when it came out. it is definitely among my most anticipated amines coming out this season!

    Diefinitly one of my favorites.
This is literally playing D&D, except that its been animated.
As a fromer player/DM, I can really related to how this world works, and how brutal it can really get.
The 1st episode alone said it all. Especially how the party got completely wiped out with the exception
of a couple of survivors. I knew already that the Fighter was going to take the big one by sheer experience
alone. On top of that you have a Martial Artist that has no choice but to get close and personal. A Mage that
can only cast 1 maybe 2 spells at most, and on top of that, no combat experience. Last but not least, a Cleric
that thought about it at first, was forced to join, and the end result, she becomes scared out of her mind, and
with only 2 maybe 3 spells ready to cast. That usually happens when your starting out as a new group, and
unfortunately, the kill rate is much more higher than you could have imagined (unless you have a GN that has
intended to make things difficult from the start). What really drew me to this series is the combat and tactics
that was being utilized, while each character has a set role to play. Also, since its based upon D&D Core Rules,
it makes it even more interesting (considering that a sequence of a pair of dice being thrown down, showing
that their fates are in the dice roll).
I love it and I'm awaiting for it to air.
    Until next time,
    Enjoy!!

The fact that his village post a hunt for help against goblins and no one was interested in attend it , so his entire village and family was destroyed by goblins speak so well for his motives and obsession. This can be a really simple excuse, but its just so believable.
Also love that his not a op character and his better strengh are knowledge and preparation. But even with that the unexpected can and will ruin everything,
Also its so important to be taked by surprise and really believe that someone can actualy die (or worse). That's why walking dead and game of thrones are the better ones i remember at first, and this show have the same fellings into it.

I read both the light novel and the manga, and in comparison, the Goblin Slayer's combat rhythm and psychology are more finely tuned, with subtle micro-interactions and details. Of course, the anime had to cut some arcs, especially the one about the festival where there's some introspection. The writing is as direct and raw as the protagonist. But despite his armor, we can still make out bits of feeling and humanity through his visor. Because beyond the slaughter of the little demons, what's interesting is the Goblin Slayer's impact on the others and vice versa.
Where Goblin Slayer can be hard to get to grips with is that it has the narrative structure of a storybook. Each chapter/episode features a goblin hunt, always in a very straightforward style. Skimming through them can feel like reading Little Red Riding Hood over and over again. But the storytelling and character development is hidden in the details that change this routine.

  • @Xeconis

I didn't expect Grimgar appreciation in a Goblin Slayer discussion but you're so right about that comparison and I really need more of that angle where yeah, anything can go wrong and even the weakest enemies are still threatening because of the circumstances. Grimgar was snubbed too early, they had a great thing going with that show, not being afraid of death and the reality of the world the characters are in. When an isekai can immerse so much that you forget it's even an isekai you know that you've found something special.
Goblin Slayer isn't an isekai but the world feels a lot more real than many other fantasy shows because of the angle that they take with their world. The goblins are male only, they need a way to keep living on so naturally the best thing to do is raid a village or turn the tides on an unassuming porcelain party. Episode 1 can understandably be a turn off for a lot of people but that was no reason for a whole controversy to be started over "Goblin Slayer glorifies the r*pe of women" because that's not what it does, it villainizes it. This is how goblins live and this is why they're disgusting and despicable creatures. The world is not all sunshine and flowers, and every rose has its thorns.

Many might only be watching shonen shows where there might not even be blood and certainly no realism. I like goblin slayer because of the "realism". same with the fire Bomb for the trade mark beholder it on the ban list. no water boarding no Explosives.

I finished this one but definitely not for me. Would be happier if Grimgar got a continuation but hearing that the anime's script was made to be anime self-contained probably not happening or if it happened it will be like another Durarara s2 scenario where s1 was made to stand on itself which made s1 super fun but forcing it to continue with all the trimmed out stuff from s1 made it feel average and a drag.
Edit: I wasnt expecting u to mention Grimgar 🤣

When I first played D&D my DM made us fight Goblins and I protested at first arguing that Goblins were intelligent creatures so we should try to rationalize with them, since I’d never Seen them do Evil. Eventually my DM showed us a Goblin Village that was Eating Villagers we were hired to rescue an Then we slayed some Goblins!
This Show was Brilliant with the first Episode showing us a cute D&D party facing a Total Party Kill, until Goblin Slayer shows up and you See How Awful they are and you suddenly Get him and his obsession!
    Such Brilliant Storytelling!

I think another thing that works in the show's favor is that because we know exactly how brutal women are treated by Goblins we're really tense, at least i am, whenever they go up against them because of that horrible scenario.

  • @Haiyami
    @Haiyami Год назад

Season 1 kinda messed up some of it's arcs and pacing. After episode 1 came out, the anime got somuch backlash and from the fact it was a Crunchyroll supported anime, the studio kinda got cold feet in its presentation of the series and re-arranged how some of the arcs played out or cut out some mini arcs in total compared to both the novels and the manga. Some of the mini arcs had very important background lore that, while not part of the main plot, gave a deeper understanding of how the world runs in the background. By re-arranging arcs and cutting some sub arcs it messed with the flow of the story slightly. Pair this up with how the studio backed off on a lot of the scenes that had darker subject matter and this anime really didn't feel like it had a particular mood it wanted to fit. The anime was still really good, but I always felt that after episode 5 the studio seemed some what afraid to go fully commit like they did with episode 1 and 2. Goblin Slayer is an amazing story but I enjoy the manga a bit more. The movie was a lot better. I only pray though that in season 2, whatever studio continues it or if it's the same studio, that when they decide what to set mood for the season as, they commit to it. Personally I think Goblin Slayer didn't deserve the backlash and I feel like it could have been even better had there not been such a backlash and all the death and bomb threats to the studio. Mind you the KyoAni arson incident was still relatively fresh in people's minds.

what's your opinion on the latest episode?

    • @Haiyami
      @Haiyami Год назад

@@alexakuto The recent episode cut out the point of view of the party that entered the dungeon that Goblin Slayer ended up saving their Acolyte. WE only see GS's point of view but they skipped the other party that didn't back and their point of view. Next off when the acolyte was captured they censored the scene quite abit. In the anime teh Acolyte was clothed and needles were put through her hands. The expression on her face doesn't match the torture she is going through. In the source material, she had been stripped of her clothes and the Goblin was sawing off her fingers. Compared to season 1. Season 2 has removed all the nudity and a majority of the gore. It's okay as an adaptation but I prefer Studio Whitefox that did season 1. The new studio LindenStudios ,for season 2 I believe is really watering down GS even further. So yeah the current episode that aired today. I'm a bit disappointed. This was one of the more horrific scenes in Goblin Slayer, but hte presentation was just lacking. I'm not going to fully write it off, but season 2 is lacking the weight behind it compared to season 1.

I see Goblin Slayer as a game called Etrian Odyssey but the very first game made. Why? Bcus Etrian Odyssey 1 is literally going by the rules Goblin Slayer is.
It's absolutely Brutal. You think your going to die to bosses more than anything right? WRONG? Enemies in the first map are far more then capable of wrecking your shit AND THEY CAN JUMP YOU! Then the FOE's (a mini boss that can be up to like 5+ on just 1 floor) will also wreck your shit early on and you basically have to dodge them until you get strong enough to properly kill them but dominantly they're there to be a obstacle that needs to be dodged
