This is an alarming sign because most citizens understand that a crime against a postal worker is a federal crime. This means criminals are becoming emboldened and are showing less fear to the law and order.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what punishment to apply when they are not caught, especially when they are willing to open fire on an unarmed carrier.
I am sure it is being debated in the federal level, either arm the carrier with non-lethal device, a gun, or body cam. I am sure several states already know their answer.

Louis DeJoy is serving as the 75th U.S. postmaster general. He was appointed in May 2020 during the tRump administration. DeJoy has served as a major donor and fundraiser for a number of high-profile Republican Party politicians. In fact, he donated $1.2 million each to tRump's 2020 campaign and to the Republican Party since 2016. Upon assuming office in June 2020, he instituted a 10-year plan for the USPS that eliminated overtime, banned late or additional trips to deliver mail, decommissioned hundreds of high-speed mail-sorting machines, and removed some mail collection boxes from streets. The changes caused significant delays for mail delivery and resulted in investigations by congressional committees and the USPS inspector general. The changes took place during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election, raising fears that the changes would interfere with voters who used mail-in voting to cast their ballots. He needs to be removed from this position.

It's very discouraging to see so many young men taking up a life of crime. Not sure if they have given up due to below living wages, lack of good opportunities, drug addiction or something else. I wonder if their was an increase in crime after the last pandemic or if other countries are seeing the same behavior as we are after this pandemic.

no other countries - at least here in Europe - are doing just fine. controversial topic for you guys, but don’t underestimate the fact that we don’t have easy access to guns - only with special licenses through hunting or in special shooting clubs - either way there are expansive background checks being conducted before granting a license and there needs to be proof that the guns are locked away at home. one might say criminals always find their ways to illegal guns, but the statistics still proof that we’re light years away from US mass shootings, gunned robbery etc…

i heard a podcast where the head of US Postal Police Division said the US Post Office management wants to replace the Police force and just low wage security guards instead. The local police departments where these mail thefts are occuring do not have the same power/resources to investigate crimes targeting Federal Postal employees, Postal trucks/post offices and mail boxes. So given the position of US Post Office Management, I think these crimes will get a lot worse. If you still have to write bank checks (in some cases I have no choice to mail checks). Make sure to use a Uniball 207 pen to write out checks (it is one of the few pens where the ink cannot be washed off, that is why a lot of these thieves are targeting the mail workers, is to get checks, as well as Credit Cards/Bank cards that haven't been activated yet.

Postal workers need to arm themselves. More severe punishments for thieves. Threaten to break their hands irreparably AND actually follow through with it

What did they think would happen?!? Close all the Walmarts then where else are the criminals to go? On to the next target! Anything to avoid getting a job!!!! Citizens of Chicago, don’t forget you have 2nd amendment rights; set up your residences for the inevitable home invasions when the post office forces everyone to pick up their mail from the local annex….

There are 330 million people in America, and there will always be some bad apples. But I guess if you live in a bad area you're more likley. Then cars are also dangerous and all kinds of things. Don't live in fear. Don't let fear control you.
