    I wish this song was released officially. It's cut short at the end because that's how much the credits of the movie allowed.

    Born again in this song, memory and imaginary. The future is not yet lost. Sarajevo roses should only have ever referred to the beautiful Bosnian people. Never forget the darkness in our human hearts, out of it can still emerge the light of mercy and life.

    Listened to this song over and over when i lived in the Israel city of Sderot and later Kibbutz Mefalsim (500 meters from Gaza) during the summer of 2009. I worked there as volunteer there collecting food in the kibbutzes and giving it out to the poor people in Sderot (a poor city mostly consisting of jews from north africa). As Mefalsim was so close to Gaza then i could see the city clear with its high-rise buildings, and used to take walk along the border.
    I thought this song was fitting as it reminded me about the rockets from Gaza who from time to time kept "falling down" where i lived.
    I never went back to Israel after that summer and didnt listen to this track.. that is until now in October when i heard about the terrorist attacks against Sderot, Mefalsim and other kibbutzes. Some of the people i met back in 2009 got slaughtered on the morning of 7 October, and now the tragedy is happening in Gaza. Listening to this song brings back so many weird memories... Back then i was connecting this song with Sarajevo and how that conflict was much worse, but today i think what is going on in Gaza is on the same scale as Sarajevo. So yes, this song fits more then ever.
    Lets hope for a quick solution, and send a thought for everyone that have and will perish in the Israel/Palestine conflict.

    Shame that this song was not supported with a video of Sarajevo during war times. It would be a huge hit. And it is a shame that this song is not played more often. Hardly can hear it anywhere.

      Of course.. it was Mushroom's own choice, as you probably know-that he wasn't digging the darker/sorta heavier direction...but man, I wish he did! lol. It's kinda sad to think that one of the core members of a band that made one of my favorite albums of all time didn't like the album, or the cons outweighed the pros (this is my heresy retelling, obviously) for him. I think Mezzanine was their absolute pinnacle, and the quintessential trip-hop album....of course me saying that would probably do little to persuade Mushroom, as he brushed off the term 'trip-hop' like so many others lol; preferring to describe it (or maybe his vision, at least) as 'lover's soul' if I remember correctly, which is cool too, and perhaps lines up nicely with his work. If I'm not mistaken, he was particularly involved in Teardrop and Exchange when it comes to Mezzanine-I think primarily involved in the latter, and MAN...I do hope that he's at least proud to stand by Exchange (either/both versions) 'cause what a beautiful song, that is. I always felt like Teardrop could have been on different album, or a single or something...just a different vibe; like a sunny spring day lol...whereas the rest of the album is undoubtedly night vibes. Conversely, I think Exchange fits right in perfectly with Mezzanine; both as an album closer, and as a sort of intermission moment in the middle (instrumental version). It fits in, but it also definitely provides a contrast. While the rest of the album is dark, eerie, paranoid...etc. Exchange provides a stillness in the night; a few moments where you're safely tucked away from the danger, to have a smoke, reflect on your life, reflect on the human condition, before you return to battle, or before the whole thing is done.
      I guess the relevant part of that fanboy rant, is that I've long since wondered if-like his work in Exchange-if Mushroom as bandmate offered that beautiful contrast in general, and what...say 100th Window could have been, or might be in an alternate universe, where maybe Mushroom didn't hate the darker direction Massive was going, but instead...maybe looked at it more as a yin to his yang, or vise versa.....I CAN DREAM!! lolol
      Btw 100th Window is still pretty bangin', IMO, and so is Heligoland. AND so is Nature of Threat, from 2000 era. If Nature of Threat is any indication, I wish I could hear whatever tf else they were cooking up at the time that got discarded.

    @vladtepes1456 Hi, is there any way to download exactly this version as far as you know? I almost bought that soundtrack ( mostly for this track, there are some other good ones which I already got ). But what about the end? Is not cut a little bit? The live version here is quite good too! Let me know, would you? Thanks

    It doesn't matter, it will be assoc. w/Welcome to Sarajevo & it's an appropriate song for the end of a powerful movie about real suffering/genocide by Serbs on the Bosnians. Arkan, Milosevic, Tudman, Seslj, Kovac, Stakic, Karadzic, Mladic...the list goes on. But the memories of the Bosnia/Herzegovina people will never forget the rape/muder/torture. People should not have to live in fear from anyone because of any perceived "differences". "Never again"? Yeah, right.....Bosnia, Rwanda, Sudan....

    I can hear the Wire sample in there - I think it's 'Once is Enough'. I wish they'd credit bands more. There's one MA song that's basically a Siouxisie and the Banshees song run through some effects with a drum machine ffs...

    • @mookie2637
      @mookie2637 4 года назад +2

      Correcting myself, it's "Former Airline", a pretty obscure Wire song. They are playing it as part of the encore on their current (Feb 2020) tour though.

  • @DarkPlague2010
    @DarkPlague2010 11 лет назад

    True. But as this song was at the end of "Welcome to Sarajevo", I thought it was a fitting song for the end of this movie. I wrote articles for FrontlineWorldDispatch regarding Serbian war criminals. I haven't seen "the Jackal", so I have no way to associate "Wire" with that movie. In response to your comment about my opinion..."if we don't learn from the mistakes of the past, we are doomed to repeat them in the future".

    So whats with this Obelisk album? There is no information on it at all. I know that this song was in Welcoime To Sarajevo, but what about all the other songs? Did Massive Attack just make all these songs specifically for movies?

    I've been looking 4 a compilation (well, double tape at the time) album called Wire - from 1997 with mostly Massive Attack, possibly MA, but have all their other albums but lost this one, 'Wandering' etc, and a song which includes the lyrics ' ... stars out to night ...' 4get. Anyone?

    • @mudfly-gg1mf
      @mudfly-gg1mf 5 лет назад

      tamsinthai - I found a compilation from my download days, which had wire (live), and the studio version. It had a bunch of other tunes too, and given that I’m a MA freak, I cannot find that anywhere else. Some of those tunes cannot be streamed anywhere.

    Scarier than any movie monster or the boogeyman, is what lurks in the human heart/mind & the devastation it can cause. We all have the capacity for murder & mayhem, fortunately most people have a brain braking system for that. Those that don't create terrible things for innocent people: revenge, power & money...these are what drives those that commit atrocities against their fellow human beings. Sometimes, it's just plain sadism & cruelty. LIVE ON SARAJEVO & THE BOSNIAN PEOPLE!!

    Well it should matter. The association is in your head and in those who put the song in the film. You might as well say that Wire will forever be 'associated' with Carlos the Jackal given that the producers of that appalling film put them in the soundtrack. You personal predelictions do not make for real significance I'm afraid. And you should not take an opinion to the contrary as a comment on the dreadful things visited upon the Bosnian Serbs - with which I fully sympathise.
