Why do I feel that Deelite and B-52's had their own genre all of their own at this time? This is such a unique song and was a big hit in the UK when it was originally released. Definitely a party song!!!

  • @steveh31
    @steveh31 2 года назад +15

This song caused controversy in the UK as it sold the exact same copies as Steve Miller Band's The Joker in Sept 1990 but was denied the number one spot as the UK chart compilers would not have two songs at number 1 so they gave Steve Miller the number one as he climbed further to reach the top and had greater sales emphasis. It is the only time the UK has had two songs selling exact amounts in a week when competing for number one and the chart rules were changed after this but it never happened again and Deeelite never got the top spot in the charts.

This song: A CLASSIC from the early 90's and amde for niteclubs and dancefloors. Several types of songs: groove, rap, funk, electro, 70's vibes (in 90's it was the "fashion", the come back).
I remember this song especially the weird/psychedelic music video with many 70's references: clothes, hair, colors, instruments... Only ranked no.31 in TOP 50 in France but at least it left a mark.
I remember it was on all CD'S dance compilations with all these 90's dance musics. There was also an Australian Rozlyne Clarke with the mash hit Eddy Steady Go (No.
1 in Clubs, 2 versions of music videos) the same year then Gorgeous and Danci' Is Like Makin' Love in 1991. She played in a musical Cats in 1990 in Paris then Grease in London.
Too INDRA, A Swedish female singer, Queen of the dancefloors in France and in Europe with Let'S Go Crazy (1990), Misery and Tempation (1991): two of her huge hits no.7 in TOP 50, Tell Me and Gimme What'S Real (1992), Rescue Me (1993), Anywhere (1995), I don't know if you know them.
There was too Latino Party with The Party (1990) using a sample of Don'T Go from Yazoo (no.4, silver disc) and the another single Tequila, a "classic" of Hispanic bars.

This song is such a classic! One of the most representative songs of the 90′s in my opinion.
Also, as a French girl, I love your reactions on French songs. Let me recommend you some stuffs.
Barbara. If you like fragility, emotion, class and elegance, Barbara is for you. I'd recommend "Gottingen", "L'aigle noir", "Le Mal de vivre" and "Ma Plus belle histoire d'amour". I would be so curious to hear your reaction upon these.
Same goes with George Brassens. A great singer-songwriter he was; with just his guitar and his voice he was great at storytelling. "Les copains d'abord", "J'me suis fait tout p.tit", "Les Passantes" and "La Mauvaise réputation" are my go-to songs from him.
If you like musical movies, check out the soundtracks made by Michel Legrand, especially for "The Young Girls of Rochefort"!
Others songs I could recommend to you:
    - Toulouse by Claude Nougaro
    - Léo Ferré - L'affiche rouge
Julien Clerc - Fais-moi une place, and Utile as well.
Christophe - Les Paradis Perdus and Les Mots Bleus
    - France Gall - Poupée de cire, poupée de son. Also Hong Kong star if you wanna see her in another style.
    - William Sheller - Un homme heureux, or else Un endroit pour vivre.
Véronique Sanson - Une nuit sur son épaule.
Also, I'd be super duper interested in having your opinion on more modern French artists, such as Pomme, Clara Luciani, Barbara Pravi, Tim Dup, Hoshi, Feu! Chatterton, Julien Doré, etc.
Keep up, your videos are super entertaining.

i think it's called a "slide whistle"and i freakin' LOVE your reaction this track! you're so into it, its hilarious! i just hope that sometime and somewhere you get to actually get up dance with yer mates to this at a party/disco/middle of the street or whatever. tho i don't remember slide whistles ever being around in 1990's... i think they were briefly around in the 70's, like a lot of plastic "fad" toys, but that was the beauty of DEEElite, that were such a funky mash-up of so many sounds and aesthetics but all brought into one very satisfying whole

This is the first vinyl I ever bought. I recorded the video off the TV chart show and I learned and learned and learned to copy her exact dance moves.... I thought it would get the guys rushing towards me. But, instead all it did was make a would be suitor just laugh at me :(
I also have a fun fact. The guys who made this video, well one of them came over to England about 96ish and he gave me my first job in VFX. :)
