Deee-Lite has to be one of the craziest ensembles ever! You've got Phunkadelic royalty - bass player Bootsy Collins, giving that sick funky groovy bass line. The beautiful, energetic Miss Lady Kier, Japanese DJ Towa Tei, Russian DJ named Dimitri, & Q-Tip the rapper from A Tribe Called Quest. World music for real! Even though they had several albums this was their big hit. Soul, Funk, Dance, Pop, Rap - it's just too fun! How many songs can get away with using a slide whistle? 🤣 "Groove is in the Heart" danced us into the 90's! Every dance club bumped this over & over.
Just for the record, Bootsy Collins did not provide that bassline. That was lifted / sampled from a Herbie Hancock track called "Bring Down the Birds"... I think Bootsy's contribution was just vocals.
@@control_the_pet_population I believe Bootsy did play live though on tour. There were a lot of samples in this, including a sample from the "Green Acres" theme song.
The funky dude who cracked you up is DJ Dmitry. He was born in Ukraine in 1964, then part of the Soviet Union. He holds the distinction of being the only Soviet national to have been credited with a Top 40 hit on Billboard Hot 100.
This song was everywhere. Can't not smile and be happy when you hear those first few riffs on the radio. Gets you in the mood good. Great driving song.
Intro to the 90s… No Deelites whole album is fire 🔥Not a one hit wonder. Listen to: ‘ World Clique’ album. She has many songs and was born in Ohio, moved to several east coast states and was in NYC when this came out.
Far as I know, it was kind of a ‘one hit wonder’, as far as mainstream hits go, & back then they lit up the video circuit for its creativity, but what many artists/DJ’s/producers do is make tracks that can play in dance clubs on an international level. I actually had sent her a message on social media congratulating her on her creative vision & success. Whe responded & was very cool! Q-tip & Bootsy, 👍🏾
This song came out in 1990. I was 25 years old and living in new York city and was an aspiring actress. I waited tables in a restaurant on W 20 street that was half a block down from the infamous nightclub, the Limelight. Some who worked at the club used to come in to the restaurant and I got to know them and hence could get in for free (there was a huge cover charge sometimes) and drink for free. This Limelight was inside of a former church that was built in 1845 and still had pulpits and religious ornamentation all over the place...the irony of all the debauchery. that was going on in a church..lol. It was known for its outlandish theme parties thrown by club kids and all the drugs...Ecstasy was THE big thing then and this song, with all thats going on itit musically, was the perfect marriage.. I adored the limelight....once you walked thru those huge original church doors, you could be whoever you wanted., whatever you wanted. Everyone's uniqueness was embraced, which i loved . Everyone seemed so beautiful and happy...then again we were all high AF!!..Ah youth !!
Not enough reactors react to this song. That is why you are in a lane All of your own making. I don't know why this song popped in my head But it did and that would be love shack by the B52's
*MACEO blow your horn!! James Brown AND George Clinton's sax player. *The player of the year!! BOOSTY COLLINS, James Brown AND George Clinton's bass player.
I’ve been a huge fan of your energy, PLEASE react to runaway, I feel like you’d love it, it’s super underrated and it’s so sad because it’s such an up beat fun song with a great message about self love!😻
That's Q-Tip not Phife, plus Bootsy Collins in all of his 'starry' glory. The group consists of Lady Miss Kier, Super DJ Dimitri, and DJ Towa Tei. They had other songs, but this particular song was the most popular out of their other songs.
Not she... them. Dee-lite is the name of the band, and her name is Lady Miss Kier. Same when they think Blondie is the name of the singer ("Heart of Glass"), but the actual singer is Debbie Harry. And no, it wasn't a one-hit wonder, they have many other great songs. What accent? How can you tell an accent when she's singing? If anything, you're the one that has an accent. This was like 1990.

😊 all well said 🎄
You missed one...Playing the sax was the sax player from James Browns band and he worked a lot with Prince. The great Maceo Parker!!!
@@tafkap01 Oh My Gosh! THANK YOU! I love getting the scoop on music. Adding that to my memory now! Merry Christmas!

Bootsy Collins, James Brown bass player and a star in his own right is in this too!
Bootsy is also all over the new Silk Sonic album which you recently reviewed. So his career has spanned over 50 years.
Parliament, Funkadelic, etc.
A lot of people did not realized the 70s outfit were a trend in the 90s. Btw this came out 1990.
This was an MTV staple back in the day.
MuchMusic, in Canada, as well.

Actually go deep... their music is funky as hell and well done... it's supposed to put you out of your comfort zone but you groove to it.
This song was everywhere. Can't not smile and be happy when you hear those first few riffs on the radio. Gets you in the mood good. Great driving song.

It’s actually 70s
@@lanceflx63 Yeah, mid to late 60s early to mid 70s vibe.

The one who is rapping is Q-Tip and yeah he is from A Tribe Called Quest
You should react to “Da Dip” by Freak Nasty.
Bootsy and Maceo from the JB's!!
The weird guy in yellow dancing is the leader of the group. They are from America I'm sure

If you were a Dee Light fan, this is not a one hit wonder!
