I did a follow up where I corrected a mistake made in this video. I might do the rest. Is there a specific part you would like broken down, its a long track.
@@MikeLevitsky Thanks so much for the response! I'm working on this with my 8 year old, who is proving to be a pretty natural drummer. I'm a musician, but drums aren't my primary- so your help on this is huge. What we're interested in: @2:15: the tom fills into and including the groove starting at 2:30. This sounds like 3 against 4 to me (hat/kick), but I may not be thinking about that correctly. My kid is already playing this pretty well and has the independence - but a breakdown including the various hat accents would be fantastic. Also: @6:16: The basic groove and explaining the snare fills over the bar line, and also the use of snare ghost notes and proper technique for that - how to think about ghost/grace notes, etc. Being his dad, his focus on my advice is uneven at best - but as most parents know, when you bring in somebody more authoritative who isn't a parent, it's a different story. Thanks again!
Great video decoding the wizardry of Mr grohl. My only suggestion would be to just let go. Go wild. Release the inner beast. Transcription was spot on ( I thought there was a little more of a flam accent on the first snare beat of the intro phrase , and repeating after each rest, but it's been awhile since I viewed Dave's video) but another large aspect of why Dave's drumming is so bombastic is the tones generated by just nailing the drums into kingdom-come....if you get my drift. I think a little more arm movement. But mate, from Australia I send my thumbs up! Cheers
Destroy my drums, Got it! Thanks for the feedback, I am more of a jazz player, for a lot of my career I had to go in the opposite direction, playing as light as possible, especially when you drum set is only a few feet away from a table with a couple trying to have a conversation.
Solid work man! If you want to check out a good technical drummer, check out Matt McGuire's channel, he does a ton of covers... While you may not listen to electronic type music, and technically that genre doesn't even need live drummers, but he managed to make a place for himself in EDM.
Thanks, I’ll for sure check him out. I’m always looking for new drummers. Style is not a big thing with me, I just like good music and good drummers. I even like drummers who aren’t that good. I just like to see people who enjoy playing.
What's your favorite Dave Grohl fill or groove?
This and several of his songs with Them Crooked Vultures 👍🏼
I knew Johnny Sins did everything but I didn’t know he can play drums too.
Super insightful video Mike! Dave is an animal ⚔🥁
This was a really great vid man, you deserve way more support and views 🙌🏽
Thank you so much for the kind words, sorry for the late response, I have been on vacation.
should be recommended!!!
Fantastic breakdown - would you consider continuing this with a part 2 of the same performance?

dope video
Thanks so much Amy!
Can anyone explain why I have the Polyrhythms feel when I play the drum fill with six beats?
I’ve always listened to more rock than jazz. So who are your top five jazz artists?
That's a tough question, really tough. My listening changes so often. Right now I am listening to
1. Vulfpeck
