  • Mizuno RB Tour and Tour X 2023 In Depth Ball Review where we look at look, feel and performance of the new Ball. Not only that though but we put it up against the old version it replaces to see what the differences are. Also it wouldn't be right unless you put them up against the Gold standard ball..... The Pro V1.

    As always in-depth Jay. We're under no illusion that we'll be challenging Titleist on sales numbers anytime soon. To start with, we needed to get the performance right - now we'll start working with our younger elite players, who are less set in their ways, to work towards usage on tour. For now, the RB Tour is a serious option for anyone prepared to try a slightly less-than-obvious alternative.

      Thanks as always for the input 👍 for sure getting it in the bags of tour players will be a big motivator for people to see the RB Tour/X as a serious alternative to the Pro V, of which it now certainly is. Another will be the need to work with retailers so they know exactly how the new ball differs to the old and the clear benefits of adopting the new. Working with them will certainly influence the club golfers next buying choice. Sometimes I feel that retailers just go with what they have known in the past without really knowing the changes that new models being and the obvious advantages to the golfer.
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

      @@mizunogolf1906 has the compression number been disclosed for the new balls? Just says MID or FIRM on website.
      Bridgestone Tour B RXS is mid 60s
      Titleist Pro V1 is mid 80s
      Source : MyGolfSpy Ball lab articles.
      Where do the new Mizuno balls sit? Roughly number wise?
      I'm looking to find something to compete with Tour B RXS and hoping RB Tour will be an option. I'm hoping it's compression is lower than prov1. Personally I have always found it to be a bit firm.

      The only difference is the softer ball
      that I like. AlsoI had to adjust my chipping because the Tour X grips and stops on a dime. Now I chip to the pin. Just don't screw up with the price point.

    Yeah. Played a round in Florida today 85 degrees (Punish me some more please) with the Missy RB Tour 2023 version. It was a giveaway from the golf shop that I purchased my clubs from. And yeah all went well. Felt a bit hard like my normal ball ProV1x. Great off the driver. Very good off long mid-irons and it holds its own around the green. Ball was virtually unmarked at the end. Like Jason here says if it is marked down say 10 dollars from the 50 dollar per dozen price tag of the ProV1 then this Mizuno RB Tour will be my new gamer. Disclaimer: I’m just an 80 shooter so elite players may drill down and find some differences but for me I discern that there is little to no difference between the Missy ball and the Titleist ball.

      All companies are fighting for market share. Unfortunately generally for manufacturers it's very difficult to change people's voting decisions and so price is always a good motivator, but it also can go the other way with golfers thinking its less than what it is due to the lower price tag associated with it. Sometime companies have been known to market an inferior product but at a high price point to convince people that it must be the best as it's the most expensive. It'll be interesting to see what the ball retails at.

      @@AskGolfNut was thinking the exact same myself.. in such a busy market with some dominant manufacturers it’s hard to know what the correct marketing strategy is.. why switch to Mizuno? if it’s really on par quality and performance wise with the pro v it still may be as basic or as crude as having to get some top pros on the payroll.. the big positive thing that Mizuno has as a brand is trust.. I think that all manufacturers may be close to or at the legal limits with their golf tech with the exception of the ball which still varies hugely in quality and performance across suppliers and their ranges..

    • @AskGolfNut

      The best way to tell the difference between the two is the dimple pattern. The newer lower spin ball has larger and fewer dimples than the older smaller and greater numbered dimple ball. For the slower swinging golfer the older ball can actually be a better fit 👍🏻

    Great review! With that logo, they are sexiest balls on the planet, bar none! I’ll be gaming them…FWIW, the ProV1 graphs need a different color…can’t really see the yellow dots. And no need to keep apologizing for slight misses left and right…not even the pros hit it solid every shot…and it’s good to see how the ball reacts on mishits as most of us watching aren’t hitting the center nearly as much as you! So, leave those shots in.

    Thanks Jay, you must be exhausted after hitting all those balls.
    For me to try them out there would need to be a cost-saving and they would need to be on the shelf.
    If I'm saving £$10 then I'd be tempted to try them out, but they have to be in the Pro-shop/ Outlet store, otherwise, I'm just going to revert to my regular ball of choice.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Год назад +1

      Very true. For any manufacturer to tempt a golfer away from their current choice of anything, generally they have to provide either a cost saving, a performance increase or a superior brand awareness.
      The ball market, especially the premium ball market is a tough one as the Pro V has been the market leader in tour, well a lot has to do with monies changing hands to influence the golfing public but still its hard to get away from the dominance of the Pro V.

    Jay, I feel you will answer this question honestly, but is it not pointless doing a ball compare on GCQuad? Yes, you can get very accurate launch, ball speed and spin numbers, but any data about how it flies in the air is purely based off the Quad’s algorithms, hence why more often than not, the balls are very very close?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Год назад

      Hi there, thanks for the honesty vote 👍 I very much am 👍
      So to answer you question, the Foresight algorithm has been honed over time to be a basic identical capture of what aerodynamic flight would be. It is that good now it is matched by the recorded dopler flight of trackman. Only sometimes are there interesting reads on very low spin high launch drives and also when artificial conditions are set on the simulator.
      Bare like for like is spot on to real life so you can critique the small, differences using GCQuad and Trackman, the only benefit from Quad is that it's much more reliable for indoor use and also it directly measures club head dynamics to then use to compare any flight differences from the product against head delivery 👍

    • @nd19ama
      @nd19ama Год назад

      @@AskGolfNut I guess I didn’t word my question the best. I guess what I’m trying to get at is, does GCQuad generalise the aerodynamic properties of balls? Too often when TXG overlay the averages of 2 balls they are almost identical being no more than 0.5 in the launch angle and 500rpm in the revs, and the ball flights being identical. I wish I could share some screenshots to help my point. I’m not saying what Quad produces isn’t correct but seems too general when balls designed to be different, appear very similar

    • @AskGolfNut

      Andrew, good food for thought there. I will digest that a bit and speak to a few people to work out some ideas for a considered answer 👍

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  Год назад +1

      Hi Andrew, I have been considering your very good points in further detail. I'm about to do a video I think on the response and continued understanding. On the physical ball front the actual launch characteristics between all types of ball be it compression all thd way to core count and construction seem to give actually very close launch properties (within a relatively small amount which does coincide with other detailed channels analysis). What seems go be the undecided factor is the aerodynamics side of the flight equation and how much dimple pattern and design have between the most aggressive one way and the other on flight. From what I have been able to piece together so far that the trajectory differences between balls have half on initial launch characteristics and the other with polar opposite dimple design. So worse case scenario you could get a ball with the lowest possible launch characteristics and also the lowest possible flight characteristics, leading to the lowest possible trajectory change within the spectrum. However as it seems all balls are a mix of launch characteristics and couple with mix flight characteristics, finding balls with distinct lowest and highest possibilities would prohibit functional use by most of the golfing world and hence not worth manufacturing. This is the information I have gleamed so far from multiple sources. So that the Quad that takes an average aerodynamic flight algorithm, wouldn't be far of at all from real life changes, when flight characteristics are coupled with changing launch conditions to produce the best performing ball possible. I guess its like in motor racing that everyone has slightly different ideas of how to make a car go fast so they all do things in a slightly different way but have a very similar affect, no manufacturer would consciously make a slow race car by knowingly creating the worst of worst worlds so to speak 😊
      Thank you so much for your initial thoughts, it's discussion like that which drives better understanding for all 👍
