Had to talk about the issues with Lowain as a character in Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. He’s very effective in rank as a lot of people are not familiar with his knowledge checks. However, in perspective he is not that strong as he may seem…

I don’t think being considered “bad” is balanced but I guess it’s how you look at it. Is balanced everyone around the same power level in a high power game? Or is balanced just a middle of the road character to you? It’s an interesting question for sure but your answer changes depending on context and perspective.
Anyway to answer your question dragon I personally think Anillia was on the weaker end of the cast but her flaws aren’t the end of the world she’s solid.

I've been having a lot of fun with lowain in casual games with friends but have been getting my ass beat online any time I fight a higher s rank player that seems to know the matchup, it really does feel like you said you need the other player to just have no experience fighting him whatsoever to have a good chance. I hope they change some of his stuff like having no safe special cancel on block and his parry being so weak, I didn't even realize his ultimate version of the knife slash move was rng based on the follow up LMAO this whole time I thought maybe it had to do with how close I was to them when I used it.
At least a lot of characters in this game have been fun for me to play but I really hope they help him at least a little bit cause he would definitely be my most played
It can be rough being a lowain player vs a knowledgeable player! He seems like he has to play more lame/keep away this time around to be effective. I’m glad his overall damage output has increase but it’s unfortunate that he got the short end of the stick when it comes to the rest of the new mechanics and system changes. Despite it all he’s fun to play and it feel amazing when it all works out haha
Playing this guy and Vaseraga feels like trying to paint a house with a toothbrush. Why did I do this to myself 💀
You should be able to win with Lowain due to the lack of knowledge a lot of people have about his tools. Now Vas yea that might be a struggle frfr haha
theres multiple lowains in top 10, if u watch them play hes corny, definitely unorthadox but they make him pretty effective. Watched some of their replays and they rarely pressure, mostly just go for beamkat/whiff punish or spam flame wheel and eat food. Could be worse, Ladiva is useless as hell, Zooey lost all her setups, Katalina is so honest she cant do anything. I think they got it more rough than Lowain

Teirs defiantly exist. He got master with lowain no mentions of a tournament run. I’ve explained why getting master with the character is effectively easier check pins. Chris is a very sound player at some point it becomes less about the character and just the player being good. We have seen in multiple games where good players take bad characters far like take rangchu panda run in tekken 7 world finals or Tager in evo top 8 in EVO 2015 I think it was? (I don’t remember the year lol) Anyway you get point players can take bad characters far and Chris is Of that caliber
I think that some players and characters just "click" and they become a great pair. While I do think there can be some objectivity is analysis of fgs character strengths and weaknesses, e.g. Ken in sf6 is the best because of multiple tools he has access to such as great corner carry, cancelable medium low and quick drive rush to name a few; the player factor plays such a huge role compared to other types of games that tier lists should never be overestimated. The worst characters can win as easily as the best can lose. Kind of amazing
Issues asside. I still keep losing to this character. I legit think I've bodied more neirs than I have Lowains.

Youre playing him wrong when they spam distance you use the distance to your advantage, He is the only character that can build meter and health. Let them spam you have many resources + You can also play lame
I went over his projectiles durations. His lame play isn’t that strong. I think one thing I didn’t mention I forget if I did was ex bros run on top of each other until they hit a proximity point making them very easy to hit together as well when defending from certain spots on screen or just trying to create that space vs good come in attacks 66L being one of now unfortunately

That’s actually one of Lowain best matchup haha so I feel you.
Lowain’s general vibe/insanity really appealed to me, I love crazy joke characters like this. Your right though, once you pressure the opponent it’s really hard to keep that pressure without being punished for fake mind-games. Granted I’m not the best player either, but Lowain definitely felt like a struggle apart from the other chars I play.
He’s very fun despite his flaws!

Lowain is very strong but a lot of your critiques are fair. One in particular I take issue with is the 214L being punishable in the corner on a blocked auto-combo. It's just not very relevant. Structure your block pressure properly and 214L will be plus.
There is just simply not way you can not get around using your auto combo at all times. Yes there are times it can be plus but that just simply not the case. Not having a cancel off auto combo at all is very weak pressure which he just has. The character is not good
You just really shouldn't be going into auto-combo on block. c.L c.L is good for hit-confirming into auto-combo on hit or going with better pressure buttons like f.L, 2L and f.M on block. Assuming your pressure is structured correctly your 214L should never really be punishable. It does make it a bit harder that you have to be careful not to commit to auto-combo unless you get a hit but his pressure is still really really good.@@DaikenFGC
You don’t just do auto combo lol. But like your said c.L into any button is good a lot of characters if not the cast do this. But after that is block auto combo is what comes next. Yes you can just take the the far light but his ability to hold the corner position isn’t that good vs characters that have good crushing H buttons. Its not really about 214L being punishable it’s more so it was taken away as his only safe option. Now his pressure is overall weaker. You can’t always make it plus the spacing for it is very specific at like f.M range. Basically the portion of the video was exposing how his pressure options are weaker than majority of the cast
Going into auto-combo from blocked c.L is just the wrong choice for Lowain. There's never a good reason to do it. Normals don't do chip and the situation after 3rd auto-combo hit is -4 on block so you're just giving up your turn for no reason. There's tons of layers to Lowain's pressure and he can easily loop into a plus 214L to loop the pressure. c.L > c.L > f.L > f.M > 214L leaves you +1. It's completely auto-spaced and you have options to bait mashing and DPs in this sequence. While yes his f.H is pretty bad you can use his sweep (which is one of the best in the game) to crush buttons instead which is incredibly strong and safe on block when spaced properly.
Not that many characters can loop their pressure as well as Lowain can and a very scary aspect of Lowain's pressure is your opponent will feel a constant pressure to push you so you don't set up extremely strong mix-up situations with 22H or 236H.@@DaikenFGC
His sweep loses to many H’s in the game as it does now low profile many of these attacks. He does not have many layers to his offense as your saying in fact it’s more limited than other characters as he can only make plus frames from certain spaces of one particular move without being punishable.
I think your highly valuing gimmick and linearity as some that is diversed and layered like other characters. Lowain is not really getting a mixup off raw 22H or 236H unless your doing like 22H to cover SBA for unreadibility and locking them in blockstun for no spot dodge. I think your trying to make some fair points here tho 🙏
Great video but i don't agree. Lowain is very strong if you let your opponent believe he is strong. You have to play a mix of solid/chesse to be successful with him.
That doesn’t make sense? A player lack of knowledge doesn’t = a character being strong? It may seem good vs those said players but in perspective of character overall strength it’s mainly only taking it I account the game at the highest level of play where players will definitely understand the character flaws.
@@DaikenFGC ahh I see what you mean. Even at the highest lvl of play those weaknesses can be used to his advantage. The I know you know play. Lowain has some weakness but he definitely not bottom one.
I've been playing Lowain since the first Granblue and I can safely say that this character only suffered as time went on. But the suffering is worth it for the funniest joke character I've ever played.
Lmao for his Human Pyramid Attack, you're supposed to keep stand block and react with a crouch block/spot dodge for the low attack

My only question is, is it worth it to get an arcade stick or just stick with a controller? Im playing simple inputs but want to learn technical eventually

As far as your question go bro just stick to controller! You don’t need an arcade stick to become a strong player. Some of the stronger players in the FG genera play pad like sonicfox, Punk, etc so yea it’s definitely not worse or anything. Just learn at your own pace bro 🙏

Honestly, you bring up a lot of great points on why Lowain is kinda bad in this game.
However, you didn’t mention how kinda busted his sweep is. It actually lets him cancel into normals up close, a funny thing I like to do when I’m right next to my opponent, 2U > 236L and if they try to grab or dodged, they get punished by the brofam and I get a full combo. And of course, sweep if safe because of dodge and his cancels an all that.
Still, great video and now I can play Lowain with even more knowledge checks!
You forgot that it can go under fireballs if you time it right.

Sweep can’t cancel into normals but yes it can cancel into specials and get around certain normals and non grounded fireballs. It’s solid but not that good in block as most cancel options just get mashed on outside of 214L you’ll be safe on spacing tho so it’s solid. Most of these H attacks and now 66L he not beating tho so it’s actually a bit worse to use

who is worse? Lowain is carried by his strictly by super gimmicks and meter/HP building (IF he even gets that opportunity). His specials are easy to counter or wonky, and his normals are meh aside from f.M, 2M & 2U.
It's his gimmicks that make his character .That's what makes him fun. Fun however doesn't directly correlate to viability. You will get bodied by people who know the bare minimum about Lowain and/or can adjust easily compared to other characters.

Lowain pressure is fake as hell I agree, though one thing to mention: HPA actually can combo midscreen, if you go for the full autocombo into HPA, HPA's L button actually connects which lets you 236U after it. Works both grounded and on air opponents. (depending on height few hits may miss) Free BP removal and recovery. Sadly the meter will be used for staying alive mostly. Good vid
Yea it can combo now that’s pretty new. Like very last patch of last version. But it’s not what others are getting. They get full SSBA while he get only his SBA and his worst damage of it cause you just slashes into ender. But yea you seem to get the idea and thanks 🙏

Yea ultimate skills HKD but it also gives combo which I showcase later so no reason to do nothing with it if your gonna spend the meter rather than the EX which don’t seem worth it outside of certain confirms mid screen.
Balance in this game feels kinda screwed up ngl. A lot of characters who used to rely on HKD got the short end of the stick. Ferry, for example, basically has what she used to do in vanilla locked behind meter now and barely got anything in return to deal with 66l and U skills aside from system mechanics, and her U skills are basically just there specifically to allow this, basically they nerfed things out then added it back behind meter as her "U skills", and thats on top of basically keeping all the weaknesses she used to have, like the lowest crush values in the game and a really short reversal. Ive had a friend who plays vaseraga complain to me about how the lack of HKD really screws him over due to him not being able to get armour and oki consistently anymore and apparently vas cannot combo into most of his U skills, even though standalone, his U skills are really really good. On the other hand you have nier who can basically loop her mix for free and get it off a dp so she doesnt really mind if she loses neutral, and zeta who can wipe out half ur health with U skills that combo and do a full corner carry. Lowain kinda feels like most of the characters who has issues rolled into one, he just kinda feels incomplete
Ferry downplayers are working overtime hours I see. The rest is spot on. Some character do seem a bit overturned
@@CJ-wh7ik I mean, in ferry's case, u take away HKDs from combo to sweep and genspenst and make it so that only U skills do hkd from combo, while locking her dp and genspenst beating projectiles behind U skills (both of which she used to be able to do with ex), thats basically putting access to her mix, which is what she was known for, behind meter. And her U skills, while useful dont get me wrong, are niche outside of specifically getting the hkd, whereas we have shit like zeta's letting u throwbait and deal 50% of ur health off it, soriz getting insane U skills that u can just whip out with minimal risk etc. For ferry its really just like they barely changed her kit at all and instead locked her main win condition behind the use of meter, while nier can basically do it and loop it for free and even off her dp. Point is, ferry's U skills give her a hkd which lets her try to mix, which is a reward, but its a reward she shouldve already had from the beginning as it was literally part of her base kit, but here, they just locked most of what she's meant to lead into behind meter, while other characters like nier can just mix like mad without meter, allowing her to go into super, or have U skills that give them a reward thats additional to their initial base kit, like zeta
I also only brought up crush values cos the video mentioned it but yes, ferry has terrible crush values, and she should under most normal circumstances, so thats fair, if only there werent so many U skills that can just blow her up from across the screen if she just so happens to swing at that exact point in time, or throw out gigi, and if only she was a little faster to take better advantage of 66l like the rest of the cast since she's the 2nd slowest character in terms of forward movement in the game.
Well, in spite of it all, she's still about mid tier and has the tools to win if ur good enough and manage to snowball with her, and will still kick ass against someone who does not know where to take their turn back against her, nowhere near as bad as lowain. But overall, character balance just feels kinda whack rn
@@CJ-wh7ik I'm just pissed that instead of giving ferry sth new to work with in her U skills like most of the rest of the cast got, they basically just locked her old, base kit behind it and called it a day, and they didnt even improve it, in some of them, the U skill is actually worse than what it was based on, while also giving most characters the potential to blow her up from across the screen

Yea! A lot of my recent thumbnails have been using that figure mode it’s actually pretty good. You can even use the shape section to make a green screen to cut your characters out for different backgrounds of your choices and stuff in photoshop

He’s still very fun tho! Despite him being on of the weaker characters he do have a few favorable matchups and have one of the biggest Knowledge checks that a lot of people don’t be ready for! In short he wins a lot vs a lot of players
Tbh it kind of makes sense for him to be one of the weakest lore wise, everyone else in the game is some kind of deity or legendary fighter or prodigy, whereas Lowain is just some dude.

Lv. 650/S+ on Lowain here. The fact that Katbot is no longer guaranteed in the corner and can just be smacked away feels like a death sentence for him. As long as people know they can mash on katbot, you basically have no pressure… 🥲

It just does less damage and spend more resources than what he can do by just staying in the corner. It only really worth it I guess if you really want to RNG some heals? You get three 5U eats and still get oki afterwards. It’s solid situationally but nothing you like gotta know.
