      @@moviemelody2210 He wasn’t. That’s the story. Nickie was, at best, a mediocre painter. He was involved with a wealthy heiress and was to get married right after they arrived in New York from the ocean crossing. They both, Nickie and Terry, were engaged to others when they fell in love on the ship. During the 6 months he waited, he was painting buildings as in commercial painting. When he thought he was rejected after being alone on the top of the Empire State, he went through depression and eventual recovery. Those months showed in his artwork, from dark to exceptional. It was during those months, still recovering from his heartache, that he painted the picture (seen at the climax) of his grandmother and Terry wearing that white shaw.

    I watched this scene at least a thousand times and each time it gets me and brings me to tears. Not sorrowful tears but happy tears as this movie really reflects how much a man can really love a woman even though she was disabled. Deborah Kerr was too proud to let him know how sick she was and he was so furious that she never came to marry him after they would meet on the empire State building . Both held back how they truly felt because both of them were so in love with each other neither one wanted to get hurt if the other didn't love them back ❤️The best movie ever produced expressing what love❤️ true love really is all about!! If Cary Grant's Children are reading this I want you to know that your dad was an awesome actor and I bet a wonderful father 💔💔💔

    • @Zguest-ke5st
      @Zguest-ke5st 4 месяца назад

      It is indeed a truth to say that a great deal of what -- as @dorothykuveke1217 posted -- "... true love really is all about" lies in acceptance, tolerance, seeing beyond the physical abilities. It's also true that being truthful, as the D Kerr character was NOT to the Grant character after she became paralyzed (thus breaking his heart, sending him into deep depression, and a [drinking] bender for months), is a better choice in Life than pulling a disappearing act. But if the "Terry" character hadn't done that, we wouldn't have the movie... And, btw to dorothykuveke1217 -- Grant had one child, at age 62, Jennifer, who was 20 when he died, so he did get to see her grow up. He retired as an actor (but kept being a businessman) when she was born, and was a very active, engaged father. ... ... ... Doing that had a great deal with bringing him emotional substance, stability, and purpose, as he'd had a very, VERY hard and troubled life as a child, teen, and young man, which all the success, money, material comfort, and adoration he received hadn't helped him heal. He famously said, "Everyone wants to be Cary Grant. _I_ want to be Gary Grant."
      .... to learn more -- which is fascinating and leads to greater understanding of this troubled man -- It's as simple as reading the Wiki pages about him (and his daughter if you like) to get the basic facts. The 2024 produced 4-part series about him, "Archie", and the best (not the gossipy) writing and responsible biographical work reveals a lot more.

    Nick Ragone does a channel called This Date in History. One of his recent shorts (August 2024) is a story of a man named Archie who meets a stunning beauty, Elizabeth, on a transatlantic crossing in 1920 (by ship, not air. Lindbergh hadn’t done that yet). He was head over heels for her and proposed every day and she turned him down each time. She was a daughter of upperclass. He was a poor Brit going to America for a better life. He wanted to get into pictures. Nineteen twenty was shortly before movies had sound, so all movies were silent. Except for a rare few, back then actors were low class, generally being in theater or vaudeville. Archie was out of her league. On the advice of two well known silent movie stars, Archie went off to California. Years later, Elizabeth would regularly go to movie theaters alone to watch her favorite movie star. She still remembered him as Archie. The world, at that time, knew him as Cary Grant.
    If you haven’t check out the channel This Date In History, please do so. He also has a fabulous book about the Hollywood heroes of WW2.
