- Hey everyone! here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Chords Of Melvins. I've had some requests to feature some of Melvins music and since they technically released their 27th studio album this year with 'Tarantula Heart,' I figured it was finally time to shed some light on these experimental "sludge metal" pioneers - so let's dive in!
The chord-based and rhythm guitar examples in this lesson were pulled from four classic Melvins albums, including twisted-chord sections from songs such as Queen, Teet, Green Honey, Sweet Willy Rollbar, Creepy Smell, Lizzy, City Dump, and more! So if you're a Melvins fan - there's plenty of sludge-riffage hiding in this lesson!
Needless to say, if you're a Melvins fan, a fan of experimental rock/metal music, a player searching for some new twists to add to their bag of tricks, or maybe you're just curious what all the fuss is about - this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

I’m a Lifetime resident of Washington state, and also a post grunge guitar player! I AM LOVING this episode! Like always David…job well done!
I'll always hold you in high regards Mr.Brewster. You out of very few of the 'online guitar' community has actually taught me valuable lessons; and teach how the guitar is just a conduit for the music inside. Keep growing and teaching sir!!
Melvin's!🤘 Nice Dave.
Love to see you do Jane's Addiction
Oh that's a great one! The Melvins always make original music.
Thanks Dave. Makes me bummed as a long time ago I walked away from listening to music when Grunge came along and missed out on some fine musical trees. Wish 30 years ago somebody like yourself was around to tell me there was more to music than VH and glam metal.
hi, thank you so much for being such a great resource! I’d love to see a video on the lead work from CSNY! Both Stills and Young are some of my favorite guitarists and their work on Deja Vu is incredible to me. Thank you and keep doing what you’re doing! ❤
melvins is one of those bands i had a hard time getting into until i saw them live, they converted me. love ya dave!
If you're doing a melvins episode, please do something on Boris!!! They have so many excellent riffs and solos that would be great to hear you talk about!!

That was an awesome lesson ! Can you do a lesson on the chords of The Dead Kennedys or the Crumbsuckers ?
Crumbsuckers! Nice one.
Love the Melvins, also Screaming Trees. Drop D and the whole Seattle sound comes alive.
Hell yeah. Wasn't expecting this but I'm very glad.
Would love to see a video on smashing pumpkins
Getting into that range where Dave may do a chord play of Black Flag, I hope.
Night goats coming out to feed tonight
Hi David, what about Jeff Kollman during his Edwin Dare years?
