I am was born in Bombay, my parents were originally Baghdadi jews with Spanish/Portuguese (Sefardi) roots. We still keep many traditions dating back hundreds of years, particularly regarding kosher food. Over the centuries many had the audacity to try and convert us but basically we told them to get lost and held fast to our faith, some less religious than others but still identified themselves as Sefardi Jews.
I’m Indian American and all my life I’ve mostly interacted with Ashkenazim. Going to India one thing I definitely need to do is visit the Synagogues and try Indian Kosher food
Well they're also from egypt who fled & made it to india & some succumed to conversion either forced or through inter-marriage with hindus or muslims & hence they became indianized through unforseen process & evolution.

When I was in Mumbai 20 years ago, I went to their Historical Cultural Museum, and they had an entire section of Hebrew artifacts honoring the Jewish Community. I was surprised because I had never been exposed to Judaism outside of Europe or the Near East.
I am a Syrian Orthodox Christian from the ' Malabar coast '. We are a distinct ethnoreligious community that practice Syriac Christianity and we happen to be one of the oldest Christian communities in the world, yes, we were Christianised before the message of Christ even reached Europe. Part of the reason is because as this video mentions about the cochin Jews, these Jews were visited by a man named St. Thomas, an Aramaic speaking Jew and an apostle of Christ, he knew about the existence of a Jewish community there and set sail for the Malabar coast where he met with the Jews here and eventually converted about half of them. Hence, much of the Christians today in Malabar have some sort of roots to the Judaic identity, although now we are entirely Christianized and employ Syriac, a dialect of Aramaic as our liturgical language. So yes, Judaism and Christianity go way back in India and it is not just cows, slums and random Hindu monks walking about on the roads as it is portrayed by western media, it is far more diverse than you can imagine. Ive never experienced that sort of India that BBC portrays.

That was an unknown island at the time and St. Thomas was said to have landed there through a shipwreck Why would we even reach socotra? Possibly on his journey toward Malabar, there is no other plausible explanation.

India has always helped the persecuted by providing refuge. Some of them are Jews- during Spanish inquisition and from Poland during Nazi persecution. Nope, it’s the other way round… Hinduism is a sect of Judaism started by the people outcast by Moses for worshiping the Egyptian Golden Calf so they never received the Mosaic Law.. and the Hebrews that sacrificed a cow outside the temple as a burnt offering to Yahweh were cursed by Moses who forbid them to eat the meat because it was decicrated. Jewish traders started trading with China via the Silk Road and by sea before the Song dynasty 宋朝. However, the Jewish community only began to live permanently and recognized China as their new found home during the Song dynasty of the late 900AD. The reason as to why the Jewish community was accepted by the ruling Emperor back then was because he was very impressed by the ability of the Jewish traders in fostering continental trading and networking, not to say the exotic and luxurious goods that the traders were bringing into China. Initially, the community was granted the permission to live as citizens only in the capital city 汴梁 (old name of then Kaifeng 开封). As time goes by, the community was slowly being accepted by the mainstream society and started to relocate around different parts of China.
These are the Kaifeng Jews. According to a scholarly consensus, they are descended primarily from Persian Jews who arrived in China either through the overland Silk Route or the sea route to the ports of Quanzhou or Guangzhou. Eventually, they settled down and married Chinese women. Their house of worship is the Kaifeng synagogue that takes the form of a Chinese temple. Kaifeng Jews had incorporated Chinese religious practices into their religion thus created their own form of practicing Jewish religion. Among Chinese cultural practices they embraced is the veneration of ancestors. Overtime the Kaifeng Jews had been increasing assimilated into Han Chinese population. There are some Chinese families that do not consume pork which may indicate of either Jewish or Muslim descent. There are some Chinese families in Fujian that are descended from Muslims and no longer practice Islam but retain certain elements of Islamic practices like refrain from consuming pork. There is estimated 1000 Chinese Jews left. A small number had migrated to Israel as part of the Aaliyah.
Much of the cochin Jews converted to Christianity after St. Thomas, a Jew who believed in Jesus, arrived in Malabar and evangelized the existing Jewish community there. Today, the Christians in Malabar are a distinct ethnoreligious community that practices Syriac Christianity, my people. So yes, Judaism and Christianity go way back in India. Unlike whats portrayed to you in western media, where India seems to be this orange-coloured place full of cows, slums and Hindu idols everywhere, which i myself have never seen, there is far more to it.

When I was in Mumbai 20 years ago, I went to their Historical Cultural Museum, and they had an entire section of Hebrew artifacts honoring the Jewish Community. I was surprised because I had never been exposed to Judaism outside of Europe or the Near East.
I am a Syrian Orthodox Christian from the ' Malabar coast '. We are a distinct ethnoreligious community that practice Syriac Christianity and we happen to be one of the oldest Christian communities in the world, yes, we were Christianised before the message of Christ even reached Europe. Part of the reason is because as this video mentions about the cochin Jews, these Jews were visited by a man named St. Thomas, an Aramaic speaking Jew and an apostle of Christ, he knew about the existence of a Jewish community there and set sail for the Malabar coast where he met with the Jews here and eventually converted about half of them. Hence, much of the Christians today in Malabar have some sort of roots to the Judaic identity, although now we are entirely Christianized and employ Syriac, a dialect of Aramaic as our liturgical language. So yes, Judaism and Christianity go way back in India and it is not just cows, slums and random Hindu monks walking about on the roads as it is portrayed by western media, it is far more diverse than you can imagine. Ive never experienced that sort of India that BBC portrays.

Eventually, they settled down and married Chinese women. Their house of worship is the Kaifeng synagogue that takes the form of a Chinese temple. Kaifeng Jews had incorporated Chinese religious practices into their religion thus created their own form of practicing Jewish religion.
