Making a scrap metal guitarist sculpture with silver solder
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 сен 2018
- I made this DIY metal statue out of a few iron pieces soldered together with the silver soldering technique. Still a long way to go before I master it but it was really fun and I learned a ton of stuff doing it!
Tools and materials I propose:
Silver solder: amzn.to/2yyKHpl
Propane Torch: amzn.to/2pMEGRX
Respirator: amzn.to/2RKTfCr

So cute!!
Nice match stick doll sculpture !
thank you
I am just about to have a go at this sort of thing with nuts and bolts etc so this was enormously helpful. Thank you very much.
Thanks for watching, glad you found it useful! :)
He is real cool. now you need to make the rest of the band.
lol, perhaps
This was a very good and inspirational video. I'll give these techniques a try. Thank You.
Nice to hear that. Silver solder is kind of expensive but it is really hard and it is wroth it!
Great project, Dimitris. Nice one!
thanks brother
Love it! I may have to give this a go myself. Good job dude.
thank you my friend
Nice vid mate, very enjoyable as always. Thanks!
Thank you Mark
Really nice. It's nice to have some fun some times. I loved this video.
Thank you
I love it! You are so creative. Thanks for sharing. I may have to go through my toolbox and whip out my torch (which I use to make jewelry) and try something new.
Awesome to hear that, thanks
Fantastic video!
Thank you
Cool little dude there, mate👍
He plays heavy metal, no doubt😎😂😂😂
Nice build👌
lol, thanks!
Gorgeous Mohawk. GooD))))
thank you
So cool mate!😎
thank you
Nice little project friend! Thanks for sharing the video.👍😎JP
I thank you JP
😎
Nice job!
thank you
a metal Fido-Dido! awesome!
Lol
Great video 💕🥳
Thank you
Nice project
thank you
Very nice good job.
thank you
Hopefully by now you've seen the silver soldering instructional video by the charming and talented "The Crafsman" here on YT.
Nice attempt!
Yes I have. Actually he inspired me to try this technique in the first place!
Scrap wood City
It would be difficult NOT to be inspired by “The Crafsman”. He is very apparently loved by many subscribers, including me. A wonderful man.
Βγήκε πάρα πολύ όμορφο , ειδικά τα βραχιόλια μου άρεσαν πάρα πολύ !!!!!!
Ευχαριστώ Κατερίνα, να έχει παρέα και ο Scrapy!
Can you do this with a soldering gun instead of a torch? Does it work the same?
I don't know. It definitely needs a lot of heat. Not sure a soldering gun can reach that temperature.
Could you do this with a soldering iron or do you have to use the torch
No, you need much heat
👍👍👍👍. Saludos.
Greetings from Greece
Great video but a fire brick takes the heat away from the metal get a soldering block. That reflects the heat back into the metal 🔩👍
great job. What brand of flux did you use in the video?
I don't know the brand. It's just borax powder with water
@@ScrapwoodCity
thanks bro..
He is a nut job😀
Cute! Why do you quench the metal? Why don't you just let it cool down?
To save time! It gets really hot with this technique!
The thing is that quenching metal interferes with its inner structure. Ferrous alloys become harder and gather stress. Your piece can become distorted or even crack. In metalurgy controlled quenching is used to make tools harder but always in combination with tempering to relieve stress and avoid brittleness. Critical temperatures vary for different alloys.
I don't think these are an issue in this case. If I was making a knife or a tool yes I should consider these things. But this was an art project with simple soft iron parts!
It's a beauty in any case. I admire your imagination!
This must be scrappy"s , heavy metal brother ? ...Nice
true. Thanks
Is that borax ?
Yes
R u sayin borax powder ?
Yes
Not to be that person...but I think for that silver content you are getting the area a bit too hot. Usually a faint dull red is what you want versus cherry red/orange. Also you should just let it cool down gently and fully, don't quench silver solder.
Thats exactly what I was told as well.
make video of 6 string bass tuned in EADGBEhi
Lol, 6 string Bass, man? I haven't made a 6 string guitar yet!
L is silent in solder
Depends where one resides. Apparently you're not aware of that. It's like using Imperial or Metric measurements.
This looks more like welding than soldering
But still similar
Welding melts the metal parts, and also the filler rod, together. Brazing or soldering only melts the solder, which acts like a glue to the parts. So, less heat is needed.
Youre doing it all wrong my dude. Heat the piece equally, don’t just focus the heat so directly on to soddering are, thats why you were having so much trouble. Also, q a
You are right! I was and I still do learn!
You apparently have little knowledge of soldering, but nice attempt.
Indeed. I just started
A non-defensive, honest answer. That's quite refreshing,
Your metal was too hot and you used way too much solder. Look up "TheCrafsman" (no letter "t") here on YT, and watch how he silver solders. BTW - you'll love his voice.
Thanks for the vid.
usernamemykel I love Crafsman. He watched and commented on one of my stupid videos. Super nice guy and very talented.
