How to build a hidden compartment in your truck

- I decided to build this compartment to try and at least keep my "valuables" out of sight. I have fitted a locking mechanism to the seat but I don't wish to go into that here.
If you enter amazon through my link amzn.to/3lhFqKz I get payed a small percentage of whatever you spend there. It doesn't cost you any more and I don't know what you've bought. Many thanks to those that do use my link. Its greatly appreciated.

in my truck if you apply the emergency brake put on the left blinker roll down the passenger window and lift the console jerky treats pop out of the right ac vent for my dog don't tell anyone though.
Maryann Blankley I have three dogs. I need that!
🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂
How does your dog do all that with no thumbs?
My Dodge 4 door came stock with nice compartments under the rear seat. I keep a subwoofer under one and my fannypack and hunting supplies under the other. Works good. I've never thought of locking the seats down until this video. Thanks for the "tip" on the hood latch. From here I think I can come up with something. Also, if anyone is needing a remote pull lever that is much stiffer then a hood latch cable (IE more of a straight alignment vs. multiple bends from start to finish), I've used PTO "shutdown" cables from AW Direct (7' & 10' lengths) that are top quality. The 7' was under $20 shipping included. Just another cable idea for those who might be looking for other options.
Thanks again for taking the time to document your journey and share it with everyone. If we all help each other, we'll make through.
Way to go. I knew that was a 50 Gigawatt Iludium Death Ray Gun wrapped up in the blanket the minute I saw it. Sorry to blow your cover.
Great! Now everyone knows if the need a death ray gun, they can break into my truck when they see me at the bacon store!!!
Nice build! Very neat/clean/finished. Thanks for taking the time to share the idea.
In my Silverado I literally just made a lockbox and put it under the seat but my explorer has the divider underneath like your truck did I kept telling myself I'll figure something out but now I don't have to! this video saved me a lot of time appreciate it sir
the perfect locking "tool" box.
That looked way better than I expected. Cheers
Thanks!
Nice project. Lots of good tips to get others started. Its not so much a "SECRET" compartment, as it is a SECURED compartment that will slow down a jerk looking for a quick pay day out of your vehicle. These days with people carrying weapons around, you also need to be able to secure your hand guns PROPERLY in your vehicle in such a way that a thief can NOT easily get your handguns (or long guns) from the vehicle. Glad you modified the seat latch for the back seat too. I hope other people are as thorough as you are.
Oh, and don't think you fooled us, we know you've been sleeping in that back seat ! LOL.
Lucy was happy to get her piece of scrap wood..lol..great idea with the hidden compartment, nicely done
Anytime my lady goes to a store with me and leaves her purse behind, my Discover card balance goes way up..😂
If you lift the seat up and reach down behind the head rest there is a latch that you can open and lay the seat down. Drill hole and pin and attach a small key ring with a piece of paracord. It gives you another "secret compartment" I also have a F150
You are one creative and talented dude! It looks pro all the way. Thanks for always sharing.
+homesteadprepper Thanks very much!
This is a great Idea, Im doing this to my truck. The 08 supercrew has no storage space at all. The only thing is my truck has a factory sub speaker under the drivers side rear seat. It does like there is extra room to make it a little bigger say 5 1/2 inches.
I've thought about hiding and keeping things in my car. What has stopped me is the possibility of a car accident or my car being broken into. Any thoughts?
2017 and up super duty has the option of a foldable lock storage Box That can be used as one or multiple compartments locks on both sides I know it is a option not sure if it is compatible with that seat but I know the super duty seat will fit in that truck it is the same cab Probably find a place that has brand new take offs or maybe a junkyard that has some totaled trucks but gives a beautiful factory finish look with lock on seat
This is really cool. Thanks for the watch buddy.
Nicholas Kelsey thanks.
Great timing.
Cleaning out the truck a few weeks ago and when I folded up the back seats I thought of the same thing but could not come up with a way I thought was secure. Will be a Mini30 which I have or an AK, which I will have to get. Think the AK will win out as I like the Mini and would not want to take a chance of it getting "lost". The way you did it will give me plenty of room for rifle, mags and extra ammo and maybe a few other items.
Will have to see what I have to bolt it on, hope the seat frame is like ours, sure looks like it made it easy for you.
That's what this space will be used for. I used to take it in every night, but since it's hidden and locked, now I just need to remember to keep it oiled well.
Very cool. I did something like this years ago.
oh I carry my kahr pm on my right hip in a secret compartment called a holster everyday of the week. Texas Rocks!
Maryann Blankley me too. Louisiana rocks and has better food,,,,,,,,, except barbecue. Texas rocks the cue for sure.
Im 18 i cant legally own my pistol yet
i have a regular cab, what do i do now!?
Brad. That's a great idea! I'm going to see if I can do that in my Explorer. Thx for the video!
+MCDSDaddy Thanks! If nothing else,it keeps thing out of view.
I was thinking of making a compartment for my subwoofers just like this and this is a great video !
Nice Job
Thx again brother! I put one in last saturday! can't wait to get some ideas on the lock.
I'll update the lock soon.
i like it, nice job on the carpet too
Nice, im thinking of taking out the foam in my rear seat, putting a thin layer of foam on top of a pice of plywood on the top and front (where the inside of someone legs would be) and then using covered snap buttons or maybe a hidden zipper to open the upholstery then storing my rifle and ammo In The seat
Looks good and a great idea for my truck as well thx for the vid well done.
i could care less if its illegal or not, its your truck, and its a great idea. its not like your going to get pulled over on a random "looking for hidden compartments" search by the local law enforcement agency haha keep up the good posts!
gotrdone957
Drive through I-40 and the "drug task force boys will ripped apart whatever you're driving lol 😂
Ohio is one of five states with a law banning hidden compartments. Georgia, California, Illinois and Oregon are the others. The new law prohibits anyone from knowingly operating a “vehicle with a hidden compartment … used or intended to be used to facilitate the unlawful concealment … of a controlled substance.”Jun 6, 2014
@@bctruck newer gm vehicles come factory with hidden compartments
This is a really good idea.
I like ur way of Thinking kind g BC...your work is superlative ... Keep up the good work buddy keep it up
Looks great! I like that hint!
Well done , I would have really liked to see how u did the latch.
Nice job BC , Looks great! Ha you said 60 degrees cooling down , here in Michigan suppose to get 3-5 inches of snow this weekend. oh well its Michigan. Thx for the video.
+Jerry Brandt Thanks! 3-5 inc hes of snow is 6-8 inches to much!!!
You know I'll have to adopt this idea now... thanks Brad'
nice idea, thanks.
Now have project for my Ford extended cab back seat this week while raining. I also want tell you my old pump shotgun with short barrel and fishing rod hiding spot. Can't put metal gun rack in no more over back window. I did and had two fishing poles stolen and broke window. Window cost more than poles. Oh well.
I'll be dropping off my truck next week. How long will you have to have it to get it done?
+Buckrun11 I can have it done in two bacon sandwiches.
+BCtruck, rebuild, repair, repurpose did you forget the trip around the block too
Brilliant I mean seriously this is so simple it's brilliant I have to do something like this to my truck now
very nicely done.
+Low Buck Thanks!
Cool intro. Love the hood ordainment. Really cool build. Thanks for sharing!
The Mack truck bulldog was one of those impulse purchases. I was at the Mack dealer getting parts and saw it on the counter. It was a blemish so I got it cheap.
Nice job. I'm considering the same project. It's so nice to store your necessities without hauling them back and forth. Even the most "disposable" (think hi point) item isn't something you want to lose. Be careful when traveling however. Ohio, Georgia, California, Illinois and Oregon have laws for operating a vehicle with hidden compartments that might be used for smuggling.
+gray man I only travel in Louisiana, texas and arkansas. The gun laws here lean more towards the constitution. I have a disposable keltec that might stay there a while.
+BCtruck, rebuild, repair,repurpose Perfect!
good idea
great idea sir
leahcim thgirw thanks.
Great idea. Thank you for sharing
good looking project
Thanks!
That's a cool thinger right there, nicely done
+tblbaby Thanks!
Nice job..
Thanks!
Awesome idea brother. I think I will do something similar on my truck.
Oh yea, this will be a must for my truck too.
+wyattoneable Hey wyatt. How much longer till retirement?
Key fob bump latch? Great project thanks for sharing.
I love this
Looks great! it's awesome that if doesn't take up any leg room and is otherwise "wasted space". I've been try to figure out how to do something similar in my sedans trunk...im always hesitant to drill in to my vehicle.
+Lion Cross not only wasted space, but a lot of groceries have rolled up under there not to be found until the smell of rotting food gave its location away.
don't know if you're interested but they make a few accessory pouches with velcro that attach nicely to the bottom of those seats too. Good luck, Sir and God's speed.
That's a great idea! I'll googelize that.
Looks good
Thanks!
Nice idea, just subbed you came over from homesteadprepper
Nice touch ! I like the way you're thinking
+Tufdog's Place Thanks!
Nice job
+krromas1966 Thanks!

+Carolina Prepper Thanks!
Great idea, Good job , very simple to manufacture
That turned out nice Thanks for the video.
Thank you!
Great idea, and it blends right in. Love your dogs!
+lumspond Thanks!. I love my dogs too! Its a little sad watching sunny get old. When I got her she could fit into one hand, she dont play much anymore.
Looks good man.
+Dr_Boom Thanks!
Nice job.
oilhammer04 thanks
Nifty idea
Simple, functional and elegant. Well done sir! I also like the fact that despite the 2x4 on edge, it doesn't appear to obstruct the foot space for the passengers....or does it? ;)
Cool project. Nice "light duty" pickup. :)
+A.P.E. Academy Well, like they say,its not the size of your truck, its how clean you keep it! But just in case,,,,my other truck is a kenworth.
Very nicely done. BTW, almost soared UP to 60 degrees yesterday in far upstate NY.
+Survival Bell I subscribe to a person near tonawanda! Yall get some snow!!!
+BCtruck, rebuild, repair, repurpose Know the area well. and yes we do.
Nicely done, love your pups...
richard b hollick thanks. The little white one stays with me no matter where I am or how cold it is. He is one devoted little dog.
Turned out really good. Awesome idea! I just stumbled across your channel. You have a new subscriber!!
thanks!
BCtruck, rebuild, repair,repurpose
Great idea! Thanks!
+Mistyvalley Thanks!
Nice, that looks great. I went for the "leave nothing worth more than a dollar" in the truck path. Not even car wash money. But this looks like a good solution, just in case yoiu need to leave something in the ride for a few minutes.
+JimsEquipmentShed Once, There was a rash of car breakins in the apartment complex I was living in. I decided that since I didnt have anything of value in the car, I would leave the doors unlocked so they wouldnt break my windows just to get in and find nothing. The fother muckers broke my windows anyway!!! I had glass in both car seats and it took weeks for me to be able to afford the replacement glass.

When I lived in Panama, they used to cut through the soft top on my spitfire. (Doors unlocked) to steal my sparkomatic stereo cassette player. I ended up taking the dome light out, and leaving the door OPEN. I've had windows smashed out before too, so I do feel your pain. ;-)
+JimsEquipmentShed In the 60's my dad would leave the trunk key in the lock so he did not have to look for it. We would drive to the Twin Cities once a year and one time while he was parked downtown waiting inside the car he had two people take the key out of the trunk and hand it to him. I guess these were concerned Minnesota Nice folks.
1crazynordlander ha, I actually used to see this in NYC and Chicago years back, it was just easier for the cabbies to be able to access luggage for airport runs. I think that went away when the trunk button came on the scene.
BCTruck, what angle did you cut the 2x4 at? Just purchased a 2008 F150 FX4 and I want to do this!!!!
Im sorry but its been 5 years since I did this. I dont remember.
BCtruck, rebuild, repair,repurpose
That’s ok. I appreciate your response I’ll see if I can use a template and a speed square and figure it out. Thanks again sir.
cool. thanks for sharing.
It's 42F outside and I'm still wearing shorts. 60s is like a heat wave up here in Buffalo. :)
"hood latch" to keep the hoodlums out!
very clever and nicely done!
Fasoldtgardens thanks
nicely done!
Thanks!
Another fine job my friend. Wise use of the space.
+patriots1needed Thanks!
nice
very cool. might have to steal that idea
+camanojim Feel free! Its all about keeping your stuff out of the hands of thieves.
When im not driving, i fold my truck into its tailpipe for storage. Then can carry it anywhere via the tailpipe. Looks a little weird carrying a tailpipe, but atleast I know my truck is safe and can be unfolded when I need to hit the road
Looks great. Nice job
Thanks 👍
nice video
daniel herring thanks.
Well executed.... I own a 1999 Ram pickup 2 door so I'm severely limited on where I can stash a long gun. Anyone have any ideas or tips please share.
Ok im intrigued of what you keep in your truck!
+JamesT I have a concealed carry permit, and I cant carry everything on my hip,so now I have a place to lock my gatling gun and torpedoes.
very good vid i have 5 dogs and i thought i was only one cutting up scrap wood for them love the dogs......
Ok Brad, what good is an EDC if its under the seat? I like the secured space idea, should it be necessary.
+roguesquatcher My EDC is always on my hip,but the long range, projectile launching, bipedal Oppugnator eradicator now has a safe place to reside until its needed.
Oh lol, gotcha. Good idea brother
You could mount the flux capacitor there
awsome love the idea. i think im my new well new to me 89 chevy 2500 i will do the same
No moss grows under your feet. Well done. Ingenious.
Thank you!
holy shit dropped that to the 60s where im from up north in maine Im in my swiming shorts if its about 25*F
That is a very useful space to utilize under the seat . Nice job.
+Rusty “rustyglovebox” Glovebox Im still going over how my lock is gonna work and where im gonna run the cable where it cant be seen
+BCtruck, rebuild, repair, repurpose One idea I am thinking about is an electric latch of some sort, but maybe that is overthinking it and should keep it manual.
" I think you know what I'm talking about ah ha ha " yup
what's in the box??
Gerardo Florez jack. It's jack in the box.
so I've watched this s few times now & I do think tommorow is gonna be the day! wish you'd elaborate on the lock mech a little more.
I will. I don't think anyone who watches my videos is likely to break into my truck.
That was a fun watch! You could even put some extra speakers in there.
+PartisanGuerrilla I think I have officially crossed over to being an old fart. I just dont like loud music anymore and I never thought I would hear myself say that!!!
I was thinking of that smooth jazz you play to keep the dogs nice and comfy. Then you won't have to keep cleaning the windows so much :P.
I went back and watched your video again. I didn't notice the first time it was an extended cab. mine is crew cab that is what makes the difference with the back seat and probably the year mod. also I don't know when they started putting compartments under the back seat...................................JS*
Good Job, From Alaska 👍🏻
Rene' A. Garza thanks.
I like that" I need to build something like that for my treasures too! Snack cakes ain't cheap you know!
+saltyshellback By now, everyone knows about your fondness for snakcakes and I cant believe you have been burgaled yet.
I keep the good stuff in the safe room :-)
