    Rather than dismantling the fan just follow the wires outside to the cap or contactor and check from there. My tech showed me easy way to check compressor. Right or wrong?

      That’s correct. I just did it this way because I had time.

    Another crap install that should have a trunk line with a horizontal air handler but opted for the spider variation instead

    Not trying to be nit picky, but saying c to s short is just not the correct terminology here. A short would indicate two wires touching that should not be if you had continuity from any winding to ground absolutely shorted compressor. However what you have here would be an open winding not a short, two different failures.
