It’s ironic that they both killed their mother because they wanted freedom but ended up with the least amount of freedom possible with a life behind bars.
Teenagers have an immortality complex. They probably thought their stupid plan would work and if they were caught, could play the innocent, hurt child routine.
They could have just run away.
@@biancapierce639 No they wanted to live with their grandmother. And running away would leave them homeless. They would leave school that was their source for all kinds of attention. They attended prom after the murder. Their mother was an inconvenience to them. I bet they did not even consider her human.
It's a tragedy.
And separated
I'm not certain that 30 years in prison is enough for these twins.
If it were Australia they would get 5 years if that.
Since 30 years does NOT mean 30 years
they should have gotten 45 years same as the number of stab wounds they inflicted on their mom
@@mihali9655 Same with Canada
@@mihali9655unfortunately the Australian judiciary is an embarrassment.
I know they must be sitting in jail thinking “living with mom wasn’t so bad after all.” This is horrible.
They didn't want to follow any rules. Now they are in prison, where there are plenty of rules.
HARD TIME. It’s called learning the hard way.
Honestly, the neighbor most likely knew their family was problematic and didn’t want to be bothered.
He was probably used to hearing them yell and scream all the time. They are teenagers.
Pretty obvious yhr mother was a weirdo as well. He might of thought the bf was involved. I also would not open the door. It must have been a zoo, especially at that time.
nikki had the same emotional maturity as the girls.
history repeats itself. the grandmothers' permissive parenting and the lack of maternal bonding are a huge factor. the girls likey saw her more of a hateful sibling than a parent (what happens when you let your parents/grandparents raise your children)
GENETICS. Zero empathy is a genetic based issue. Science today can probably even identify the gene: a lot of this shows up when puberty HITS. The chemical change hits hard.
Ya, and probably some inter-generational trauma going through all those households. Something else has to have happened (besides puberty and teenaged rebellion) in between them being "polite and respectful" to murdering their mother.
The Mom was definitely far from perfect, and who knows what the twins were subjected to while in the womb? With birth?
Surprised these factors weren't at least considered as possibilities.
Not all grandparents are like that, there are many that step up and change the lives of their grandchildren for the better.
@@corinnefogarty7880 The point isn’t the grandparent’s parenting style but the effect that grandparents raising their grandchildren has on the kids relationship to their actual parents. It does change the dynamic drastically.
@@hollydaugherty2620 I agree. Allowing others to raise your children makes it hard for the parents to step back in and try to establish rules and boundaries later on. The bio parents are no longer seen by the child as the one who can tell them what to do after much time has passed of not being around to parent them. It does not sound like it in this video, but their grandmother raised them for the majority of their lives. Nikki tried to take over years later and it was too late by then.
She was actually alive when they dragged her into the bathtub. When they confessed they said she said "kill me now or I'll kill yall." Then she went under the water a few times and was gone. So sad her last moments were knowing she gave birth to her killers. They even stabbed her multiple times in the stomach. Just sick.
Dont believe the last words. The twins would obviously say this as part of their defence.

Crying sooooo Horrible
I saw this on Dateline and other
true crime series. The reason the girls killed their mom was because with their great grandmother they were allowed to do anything they wanted.
Even to seeing 30 plus year old men. The girls grandmother
(the mother of their mother)
was unhappy that they only received thirty years. She wanted them to get life in prison. 🙄
their grandmother didn't want to get killed. smart move lol
Those girls were apparently demonic.
Hi Dr. Grande. This is a terrible case of childhood neglect & mental/physical domestic abuse that could have been prevented. Drugs & alcohol were the main problem in this situation. Everyone is different although a good parent would've gotten their kids into some type of therapy. Psychonarcs do not have empathy & there feelings are none. Interesting that the mother hooked up with a man 30 years older too. Sounds like several generations of a pretty dysfunctional family.
What an absolute mess. The no boundaries concept was passed from mother to children. They will come out of prison much worse and far more dangerous.
I’m glad they were sent to separate prisons.
I always hated this story. 😞 They gotta sit in jail forever, and don’t even have their mother to comfort them or talk to them. Foolishness. Their grandmother enabled them too.
Yes my brother tried to kill our mom. They’re both narcissists, she’s covert and always worshipped him, bails him out makes excuses for his abuse of others. She dropped charges (of course) and continues to be codependent with him. Gross and sad.
I know a few parents like this. They can't see (even after it happens! ) that the narcissistic child will turn on them in a heartbeat; blood ties mean nothing. I hope you're safely far far away from them.
Sounds like my exMIL. She'd tell me all the time she'd understand if I left her son, she knows how he is, etc
Until I actually did leave him. She suddenly forgot about the time he kicked her door in because his dad didn't put his car stereo in fast enough, or when he held a knife to her throat, or kicked every door in our house off the hinges.......

This case to me is terryfizing, imagining Nikki trying to escape her daughters and fight them while they kill her, then they go on with their life like nothing happened. Dr Grande...I wonder if perhaps their Sociopathy & Psychopathy comes from their mother?
As a psychologist, I'd have love to study them, its so rare to get identical twins that become killers, especially girls. Glad that they were separated and put in different prisons.

Not good that a psychologist doesn’t listen well, he said they did inherit those traits from their mother.
I am wondering, and maybe you can answer this question, how come they were so different when they were younger. Is this mental illness trigger later in life by the teens hormones?
I always enjoy your dry humor (e.g. “it’s not all bad, their prayers were answered”)
Right! Me too.
Profound,,,, explained so well of horrendous crime
This reminds me of a Tshirt my friend's mother used to wear. It said, "Mothers of teenagers KNOW why animals eat their young."
L D - They missed the bonding that can help get over the teenage rebellion. But DNA did seem to be against them as well as the grandmother's leniency.
What a phenomenon, DNA as you pointed out re: Nikki's behavior as a teenager, and now the twins; two identical psychopaths--freakin' scary. Wonder what will happen when they get out of prison.

Hopefully they won't have children
@@tlc6756 Honestly who tf would wanna have kids with them? They look chopped af now, their horrible reputation and they'll be 46 by the time they get out and I'm pretty sure no man in the right mind would want a middle aged woman who wasted her youth in prison.

They were not in better hands with the other family member either. They were still going to go to prison no matter what; they would always end up hurting anyone in their presence.

I remember hearing about this. It was so heartbreaking. I can't imagine how betrayed the Mom felt. Kids dont understand how much you love them. All the time and care you put into them. How you fall in love with them, while they are in your tummy. When they are born and before their first birthdays, they must receive at least a thousand kisses from you. All the times you spend looking at them and loving them. Counting their fingers and toes. I'm sure it hurt worse than the knife, to know they had so much hate for her that they killed her. I wonder where it came from?
Unfortunately not all women feel motherly…
This is really sad! A mother doesn't deserve to be murdered by her own children 😞
Duh
That's generalization. Each case should be considered individually.

Parenting seems to have been problematic on all fronts (mother, father, grandmother) I wonder if better parenting from an early age on could have improved or mitigated their personality problems.
And could anything have been done if dangerous mental health recognized as children and receiving therapy?
Scary shit - as if parents don't have enough to worry about raising children. SMH
Therapy is not going to do anything for psychopaths…probably was genetic.
I’ve watched and read a lot on this case and she didn’t seem like a terrible mother to me. She should have been more involved in the early stages but when she tried to fix that it was too late. She was always trying to make a better life for them.
A lot of it is generational which is why it’s important for parents to self reflect often.

Dysfunctional relationships gone off the rails into a tragic ending.
This is sad because this crime wasn't meant to happen. If their motive was simply that they wanted more freedom and to do what they please, it's just sad because had they not made this decision, by now, they both could have had their own lives, their own houses, jobs, and families of their own ... they were 16, and I know at 16 it's hard to imagine life outside your parents, school and siblings -- but 2 more years they would have been adults. They don't even have to visit their mom if they don't want to, once they're adults; so much potential and life skills lost -- for what, teenage angst? Even if there's more to the story, I've heard this motive before --- "they don't let me see my boyfriend"; "I just wanted to have the house to myself" -- FOR WHAT??!? To run around town for a few days with friends you probably won't even know in 5-10 years?? They always get caught, because they're too young to understand how forensics and the justice system works. Most (teens) get caught cause they can never shut up about it --- up to life in prison simply because you hate your said family member(s) and you want to stay up past your bedtime. It blows my mind how lives get destroyed simply because a teenager hates their parents (right now). These girls will never know if the mother they hated as teens, would have become their best friend as adults.
They are psychopaths. Even if they were not behind bars now and enjoying their freedom, they will surely murder someone or some people in the future. As unfortunate as it is, their mother died for the sake of others. At least by being behind bars, it prevents other people from getting hurt.
A: probably not, but still.
I doubt they would have had families, jobs etc They are psychopathic and that does not go away in a few years Many kids including myself did not like the restrictions that my parents placed on me at 16 but I wasn't going to kill anyone over it I was able to figure out that in two years I could do what I wanted These girls were mentally unstable and always will be You are not factoring in the serious mental health issues these girls are sick and sickness such as this is not going to go away

My daughter bonded with my mother as her mom and even though she called me Mom,she thought of me as her equal until puberty then I became less than equal.i am lucky that she didn't kill me .she is 32 years old now and we don't speak. The only difference between my case and this is that my daughter acted out several after she left home at 17 .not before
"Prepare for trouble, and make it double."
Such an interesting situation, I wonder if one of the girls was the ringleader and the other a follower, I suppose we will never know
They should be studied especially because they are identical twins too. Puts the question of nurture/nature into perspective when it comes to psychopathy and antisocial personnality disorder.
I think there always is, in any group.
I like how you get to point in your videos saying a lot but not using unnecessary information.
Right? It's like an artform to be so concise.
What a horrible death, psychologically and physically, the mother suffered, knowing not only she was being killed, but by her daughters. She must have loved them; why else would she want to take on two highly rebellious teen girls. She didn’t want them to wind up pregnant at 17 like she had and limit their futures.
If she loved them she shouldn’t ever have been physically violent and found ways or support from classes to be able to be a better and stable parent
@@Aj-michele thank you for saying this, too many people are willing to see past all the pain these "parents" put their children through just cause they are "trying" now
@@DrewIbarra714 Right? But she wasn’t trying, she got custody back and then lost it again because of all the physical fights they’d get in. A judge gave her one last chance, a two week trial period of them all living together again even though the girls were adamant they didn’t want to live with her and within that 2 week period this happened. Supposedly she was trying to hit them with a pot and when one stopped her, she went for a knife and that’s when things escalated.

This was in 2010. This is nothing new. The world lost its mind long ago.
I couldn’t imagine ever hurting my mom…. I could never!
It's a tragic story! I feel there are three basic elements to being a good parent. I base it on my own childhood. There needs to be a balance between discipline and love and parents need to be good role models. In this situation it appears the teens had little discipline and they didn't respect their mother based on her lifestyle meaning her having a secondary boyfriend, and as the twins themselves stated their mother's alcohol and marijuana use. They apparently saw it as a double standard. In saying that, to kill ones parent is unimaginable and to stab her 45 times shows extreme hatred and a complete lack of conscience. What they did was pure evil.
What a horrible crime! Thank you Dr. Grande for your expert insights!
what a sad case. I've sometimes wondered if twins have an increased propensity to the kind of folie a deux departure from wider society's value norms based on their reliance on another self 'just like them' they would trust, so it would be easier to validate each other into delusions or moral horrors.
Twins what?? Nope, my brothers are twins and they're lovely. Those twins suffered abandonment and all sort of abuses.
Immoral horrors, you mean? I entirely agree with you that THESE twins did have an issue with delusional narcissistic psychopathy. The two had a dangerous code pendency relationship.
But do twins in general have this? No, ofc not. It would require a preexisting state of narcissism and/or other personality disorder.

Did they say why they killed their mother?
@@TheBOG3 all began when one of the sisters (27) began a relationship with a self proclaimed opera singer (of course he actually did nothing for work, in his life..) and then this young man started to have sex with the other sister too (19).
The future victim, the mother, was a retired traffic warden that saved money for all her life and was finally able to buy some houses to get money from tourists, for rent.
The opera singer was able to persuade the two sisters (one worked as physiotherapist, the youngest one was an economics student) that "to wait for the inheritance takes too long" (mainly because he was NOT beneficiary of nothing.. he could not marry both the sisters) so they drugged an herbal tea they served to the mother THE DAY OF THE MOTHER'S DAY and they even made a heart -shaped cake for the victim, then as she fall asleep, they strangled her, with various methods because "she didn't died", then they hide the body in the forest, and right away, the 3 idiots, in a couple of hours they called police, tv and newspapers crying out loud, that "the mother didn't returned from hiking and she was surely injured or dead"
(of course everyone was like.. ehm.. WHAT? ..maybe she's just sitting in a diner drinking her coffe or chatting with a friend... why she should be dead?").
Meanwhile before anyone wasn't able yet to find the mother, the "opera singer" (a creepy narcissist, church enthusiast, all selfies and self celebrating) was already gone around every single house owned by the victim, with HIS PARENTS, to ask and collect the rent money... !

No one deserves to die. But if they got so physical with their mom, it would only become worse as they get older. They showed many times that they don’t want to be around their mother. Full stop. With immature minds, they felt they had no alternative because this person keeps carrying them back home . They likely see the court as something serious too. I did at that age.

You have the ability to produce objective judgement. You make your analysis in a very non-biased way. You look at the evidence and make the best interpretation possible. I want to know how you are able to do this. Could you make a video about this? Thank you.
Thank you for this most interesting case. For me, it really serves to underscore the harshness of the sentence the Menendez brothers received (lIfe without the possibility of parole) for killing their parents despite the strong evidence of abuse by the parents that was presented at trial.
These girls accepted a plea deal. The Menedez brothers would have gotten a lesser sentence had they done the same.
@@vbrown6445 In 2017 Lyle said that they weren't given a chance at a plea deal and that they should have had one.
Definitely, more intriguing than double-talk! :) Which brings me to the victim's Mother's "contribution" to that messy set-up. Why go back to her? For an aged person - she's hardly the 'right guardian' - as may have a couldn't care less attitude? By "allowing" them freedom, when the Mother's doing the extreme opposite, it's saying something already. Also, there already were domestic disturbance calls in between. The court should have noted this 'apathy' and assessed the situation.
As a teacher for 25 yrs, I have seen situations like that quite often. Grandparents are forced into parenthood again and are tired and exhausted. They have little control over the grandchildren. Believe me, if the grandmother started being strict with those two devils, she would have been another victim.
I double-checked your data... and it's a double-great video!
I saw this case on ID or twins that kill and they did not explain the case as well as Dr Grande. I look forward to all of your videos and I like them ALL. You are a brilliant scientist!!
I love these comments from his fans 💝 it's nice to see the OG Grande fans like me. Cheers ✌️🇨🇦
Hello Dr. Grande...I do love your videos and looking at you.... listening to your soft voice with your humor. Its 340 am Thursday morning...catch up time so I start here and go backwards. Thank you.. you're so handsome . 🙋❤️🇺🇸😎
Well that was disturbing as hell
Best comment today. 😄
People that murder strangers or family members will have to stand before the Father one day and be judged and be held accountable for there actions
This topic is very interesting. I read the title and immediatly googled it. I watched a video about them before listening to your analysis. It is interesting how mankind is fascinated by twins but I get it. Good analyses as always!
Yes its really creepy
*inserts every creepy twin trope reference*
I always found this case interesting. I read where the mother wasn't so great.
Always interesting.
Thank you
Peace 💕🇺🇲
That is a lie. They had a good mother, who put forth boundaries, they did not like.
The mother wasn’t good this guy is putting out fairly tales.
@@aaronbirook4367 so do they have kill her they wore evil it doesn't matter you don't kill your mom
My mother wasn’t so great, but I never wanted to kill her. Maybe because my father was so wonderful and caring. He was such a great man.
What a nice comment, unlike the others.
